OK-432 is an immunomodulator that has been reported to be efficacious as an injection therapy for cervical lymphomas and ranulas. We performed OK-432 injection therapy to treat a cystadenocarcinoma of the parotid gland in a 72-year-old man. The 50 × 46-mm tumor was located in the deep lobe of the gland. The tumor had compressed the glossopharyngeal, vagus, and hypoglossal nerves, causing neurally mediated syncope, hoarseness, dysphagia, and dysarthria. Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a serious problem because of its world wide distribution and possible adverse chronic sequalae such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Over the past 20 years, many antiviral or immunomodulatory agents, or both, have been used in patients with chronic HBV infection. Among immunomodulatory agents, levamisole, BCG, picibanil and interleukin-2 have been shown to be ineffective. Corticosteroid therapy is also ineffective and can cause deleterious effects in chronic HBV infection. Thymosin-alpha 1 therapy is currently in phase III clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of pleurodesis using OK-432 after cardiac surgery in the neonatal period or early infancy.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 11 consecutive patients who underwent cardiac surgery in the neonatal period or early infancy and pleurodesis using OK-432 for persistent postoperative pleural effusion in two institutions.

Surgical excision is thought to be the standard treatment of choice for lymphatic malformations. We have adopted OK-432 as a sclerosing agent in the treatment of cystic predominant thyroid nodules and have analyzed our findings to assess the efficacy of intralesional instillation of OK-432. Many drugs are applied in local treatment for skin malignant tumors. These drugs are living-BCG, OK-432, MY-1, WPG, interferon preparation (alpha, beta and gamma), TNF, IL-2, peplomycin, bleomycin and others. Some of them already have completed clinical trials and others are under clinical observation. Over 160 cases of pleura carcinosis were treated systematically by local intrapleural instillation of Iscador, and the results were documented by cytomorphological examination of the punctate. From 1998 to 2003 6 children with lymphangioma of cervico-facial region were treated with OK-432 in Polish Mother Health Institute. Three of them had nonresectable leasion and two required tracheostomy during first months of life. Each patient received from 1 to 10 sessions of obliteration. In total 23 sessions were performed.
