Advancing Research, Writing, and Publishing in Nursing: Addressing Challenges and Improving Standards.

Nurses constitute nearly 50% of the worldwide health workforce, and the World Health Organisation has advocated for an enlargement of their roles to guarantee fair health care and address the increasing need for services. The growing specialization in nursing practice has led to a rise in educational options for nurses, including the growth of PhD programs. These programs play a crucial role in preparing nurse researchers and educators. This growth underlines the importance of evidence-based practice and high-quality academic writing in nursing. The article highlights the importance of nurses'

Exploring AI use policies in manuscript writing in cardiology and vascular journals.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are rapidly evolving and offer efficiencies in manuscript generation however, this technology has raised concerns about the potential for bias, errors, and plagiarism to occur. In response, some journals have updated their author guidelines to address AI use. METHODS: We assessed author guidelines for 213 MEDLINE-indexed cardiovascular journals to evaluate policies on AI use in manuscript writing. Journal metrics such as CiteScore, Journal Impact Factor (JIF), Journal Citation Indicator (JCI), Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP), and

Can large language models provide high-quality desk review decisions in an orthopaedic surgery journal? A concordance study comparing three AI models to human editorial decisions.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into scientific publishing workflows, yet no study has formally evaluated the ability of large language models (LLMs) to reproduce human editorial desk-review (R0) decisions in a general orthopaedic surgery journal. We investigated whether three commercially available LLMs could accurately replicate the editorial decisions of the Editorial Board of Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research (OTSR). The study addressed four questions: (1) Is the concordance between LLM and human R0 decisions satisfactory for editorial use?

Predatory journals: a major threat in orthopaedic research.

Predatory publishing is a major threat to contemporary publishing, as it offers 'to unaware scientist's', a quick open-access publication against fees without peer-review procedures.. Lack of peer-review leads to unethical practices, as plagiarism, publication of unscientific falsified data, and even unsafe clinical practices. As these journals threaten the credibility of academic publishing, significant work has been done from many scientific teams, in the last years, in establishing discriminating criteria between predatory and legitimate publishing. In the present review, we include mechani

Curveball strategies to fool the competition.

In this follow-on piece to his article "Hardball: Five Killer Strategies for Trouncing the Competition" (HBR April 2004), George Stalk of the Boston Consulting Group offers another approach for prevailing over rivals. Strategic hardball is about playing rough and tough with competitors; strategic curveball is about outfoxing them. It involves getting rivals to do something dumb that they otherwise wouldn't (that is, swing at a pitch that appears to be in the strike zone but isn't) or not do something smart that they otherwise would (that is, fail to swing at a pitch that's in the strike zone b

Vesalius on the anatomy and function of the recurrent laryngeal nerves: medical illustration and reintroduction of a physiological demonstration from Galen.

The purpose of this article is to review the anatomical illustrations and physiological demonstrations of sixteenth-century Flemish-born anatomist and physician Andreas Vesalius concerning the recurrent laryngeal nerves. Although Vesalius was primarily an anatomist, he also used vivisection as a pedagogical device to help his students understand the function of structures within the fabric of the body that they had previously studied in anatomical detail. Vesalius's masterwork, De humani corporis fabrica or simply the Fabrica (1543, 1555), was ostensibly an anatomy text, but Vesalius included

Courage as a skill.

A division vice president blows the whistle on corruption at the highest levels of his company. A young manager refuses to work on her boss's pet project because she fears it will discredit the organization. A CEO urges his board, despite push back from powerful, hostile members, to invest in environmentally sustainable technology. What is behind such high-risk, often courageous acts? Courage in business, the author has found, seldom resembles the heroic impulsiveness that sometimes surfaces in life-or-death situations. Rather, it is a special kind of calculated risk taking, learned and refine

Equipping the next generation: addressing the unmet need for artificial intelligence education at research performing organizations.

BACKGROUND: The integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools into higher education is rapidly accelerating, yet the educational ecosystem appears largely unprepared for the scale and speed of adoption. Our recent international survey of over 1,200 university students and postdoctoral fellows in the medical and life sciences found that while more than 80% had used GenAI tools, the vast majority had received no formal training, and many were unaware of any institutional policies governing their use. This gap between adoption and institutional preparedness may pose risks to res

WeChat dual-group (mis-)use: a qualitative exploration of Chinese undergraduate students' use of mobile social media applications and its pedagogical implications.

INTRODUCTION: Although WeChat is widely adopted in Chinese higher-education English-translation programmes, little is known about how students actually use its group-chat function for collaborative learning or what problems arise. This study explores the dual-group phenomenon-parallel instructor including inclusive and student-only WeChat groups, to uncover both the merits and the challenges of this informal digital ecology. METHODS: An interpretivist, qualitative design was employed. Twenty-eight undergraduates from a Chinese technology-focused public university were recruited through course
