Combined application of H2S and a plant growth promoting strain JIL321 regulates photosynthetic efficacy, soil enzyme activity and growth-promotion in rice under salt stress.

Salinity stress is one of the most harmful abiotic stresses that inhibit crop growth and grain yield. In this study, a salt-tolerant bacterium was isolated from the soil of the rice rhizosphere and named Myroides sp. JIL321, based on the results of the phylogenetic tree analysis. The strain JIL321 tolerated up to 1, 283.37 mM of NaCl and exhibited positive plant growth-promoting traits, such as the production of indole acetic acid (IAA) and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase. Therefore, the effects of JIL321 on rice (Oryza sativa L.) under salinity stress were determined. The in

BcSTP6, a sugar transporter of STP family, modulates flowering time and plant growth by regulating sugar signaling in flowering Chinese cabbage.

Flowering Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis var. utilis Tsen et Lee.), an cultivated variant of Brassica rapa var. chinensis in the Brassicaceae family, is distinguished from Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa var. chinensis) by its basal leaves, which have non-stippled petioles and slender, grooved leaf stalks. Sugar transport proteins (STPs), a key subfamily within the plant monosaccharide transporter (MST) superfamily, serves as primary hexose transporters that facilitate the transmembrane movement of glucose, fructose, and other hexoses. These proteins play a crucial role

Nitric oxide donor CySNO promotes plant growth and alleviates drought stress in soybean via antioxidant defense and transcriptional regulation.

Drought, or consistent shortage of water supply, can have a variety of detrimental effects on the physiology of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] such as reduced growth, wilting, and abnormal cellular biochemistry. Nitric oxide (NO) is a crucial signaling molecule that regulates a wide range of physiological processes in plants. In this study, we investigated the role of NO in regulating soybean plant responses to drought stress. Exogenous application of different concentrations of the NO donor CySNO significantly promoted plant growth and development under both normal and drought conditions in

Genetic manipulation of rice OsERF071 alters plant growth and grain yield via regulation of secondary cell wall deposition in stems.

Characterization of the complex hierarchical networks of Transcription Factors (TFs) that regulate plant cell wall deposition have been shown to influence plant development and responses to environmental stimuli. However, most of these TFs are associated with secondary cell wall (SCW) deposition, and significant gaps remain in our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of primary cell wall (PCW) deposition and the transition from PCW to SCW deposition during cell development. Using gene association networks analysis in rice, five TFs co-expressed with cellulose synthesis (OsCESAs) genes an

Integrated Transcriptomic and Proteomic Analysis Identifies Novel Regulatory Genes Associated with Plant Growth Regulator-Induced Astringency in Grape Berries.

Astringency influences the sensory characteristics and flavor quality of table grapes. We tested the astringency sensory attributes of berries and investigated the concentration of flavan-3-ols/proanthocyanidins (PAs) in skins after the application of the plant growth regulators CPPU and GA3 to the flowers and young berries of the "Summer Black" grape. Our results showed that CPPU and GA3 applications increase sensory astringency perception scores and flavan-3-ol/proanthocyanidin concentrations. Using integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analysis, differentially expressed transcripts and pr

RNA-Seq Analysis Reveals Potential Genes Involved in Plant Growth Regulator-Induced Ovary Development in Male Kiwifruit (Actinidia eriantha).

Kiwifruit is a dioecious woody liana fruit tree, and the non-fruitfulness of male plants leads to a great deal of blindness in the selection of male plants in crossbreeding. In this study, we induced the development of male plant ovary by externally applying plant growth regulators (PGRs) and performed histological observation, phytohormone content determination and transcriptome analysis on the abortive ovary of the male kiwifruit (Con), the ovary of the female kiwifruit (Fem) and the PGR-induced developing ovary of the male kiwifruit (PT). Histological analysis showed that the Con ovary was

Moderate overexpression of PROTON GRADIENT REGULATION 5 improves photosynthetic performance and plant growth under fluctuating low light in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Cyclic electron transport around photosystem I (PSI) plays an important role in regulating photosynthesis by balancing ATP/NADPH production and maintaining PSI function under fluctuating light. Although PGR5-dependent photosynthetic regulation has been extensively studied under high or fluctuating light, its physiological significance under prolonged low irradiance interrupted by transient increases in light remains less well understood. Here, we analyzed Arabidopsis thaliana lines with different levels of PGR5 accumulation to investigate how PGR5 abundance influences photosynthetic regulation

Effects of plant growth regulator treatments on quality-related traits and the establishment of cultivar-specific cultivation conditions in small- and medium-sized lily bulbs.

High-quality lilies with multiple flower buds are in demand for export, but small- and medium-sized bulbs often produce fewer buds, prompting the need for improved cultivation strategies. In this study, the effects of pre-planting plant growth regulator treatments on cut flower quality (flower bud number and length, plant height, and bulb circumference) in small- and medium-sized lily bulbs (14-16 cm) were investigated. Six lily cultivars ('Aubisque,' 'Difference,' 'Ducati,' 'Spring City,' 'Sweet Zanica,' and 'Woori Tower'), representing three lineages, were treated with 6-benzylaminopurine (B

Development of novel anti-malarial from structurally diverse library of molecules, targeting plant-like CDPK1, a multistage growth regulator of P. falciparum.

Upon Plasmodium falciparum merozoites exposure to low [K+] environment in blood plasma, there is escalation of cytosolic [Ca2+] which activates Ca2+-Dependent Protein Kinase 1 (CDPK1), a signaling hub of intra-erythrocytic proliferative stages of parasite. Given its high abundance and multidimensional attributes in parasite life-cycle, this is a lucrative target for designing antimalarials. Towards this, we have virtually screened MyriaScreenII diversity collection of 10,000 drug-like molecules, which resulted in 18 compounds complementing ATP-binding pocket of CDPK1. The Plant Growth Regulator Forchlorfenuron (KT-30) Drives Atherosclerosis Progression via Lipid Homeostasis Disruption: Evidence from ApoE-Deficient Mice.

Oxidative stress is a central driver of atherosclerosis progression, promoting lipid peroxidation, vascular inflammation, and hepatic metabolic dysfunction. Forchlorfenuron (KT-30), a cytokinin-like plant growth regulator widely used on fruits such as kiwifruit, grapes, and watermelon, has been reported to elevate serum cholesterol levels, suggesting potential atherogenic effects. However, whether KT-30 induces oxidative stress and accelerates atherosclerosis remains unknown. Here, apolipoprotein E-deficient (apoE-/-) mice were orally administered KT-30 (5 mg/kg/day) for four weeks. KT-30 sign

Piriformospora indica colonization enhances remediation of cadmium and chromium co-contaminated soils by king grass through plant growth promotion and rhizosphere microecological regulation.

Poor plant growth and low pollutant bioavailability in contaminated soils limit phytoremediation efficiency. Pot experiments were conducted to investigate the effects and mechanisms of Piriformospora indica inoculation on the phytoremediation of Cd-Cr co-contaminated soils from farmland using king grass. P. indica colonization increased plant biomass by 20.4-24.6% and enhanced Cd/Cr accumulation in root, stem and leave tissues. Root vascular cylinder and cortex were the major structures for Cd/Cr transportation in plants. The amounts of Cd and Cr extracted by king grass considerably increased

Enantioselective phytoeffects of chiral pesticides.

Chirality exists extensively in nature. Synthetic chiral plant growth regulators and other pesticides usually behave enantioselectively in phyto-biochemical processes. Chiral plant growth regulators regulate the physiological processes of plants enantioselectively, and chiral pesticides cause enantioselective toxicities or ecotoxicities to plants. On the other hand, these chiral agrochemicals can be absorbed and enantioselectively metabolized by plants. This review summarizes the enantioselective effects of chiral plant growth regulators on plants and the phytotoxic and biotransformation effec

Melatonin: A promising candidate for maintaining food security under the threat of phytopathogens.

Plant immune response is tightly controlled by an interplay of various phytohormones and plant growth regulators. Among them, the role of salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene is well established while some others such as nitric oxide, polyamines, and hydrogen sulfide have appeared to be key regulators of plant immunity. In addition, some other chemicals, such as melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine), are apparently turning out to be the novel regulators of plant defense responses. Melatonin has shown promising results in enhancing resistance of plants to a variety of pathogens includ

Identification of plant defence regulators through transcriptional profiling of Arabidopsis thaliana cdd1 mutant.

A sustainable balance between defence and growth is essential for optimal fitness under pathogen stress. Plants activate immune response at the cost of normal metabolic requirements. Thus, plants that constitutively activate defence are deprived of growth. Arabidopsis thaliana mutant constitutive defence without defect in growth and development1 (cdd1) is an exception. The cdd1 mutant is constitutive for salicylic acid accumulation, signalling, and defence against biotrophic and hemibiotrophic pathogens, without having much impact on growth. Thus, cdd1 offers an ideal genetic background to ide
