BACKGROUND: Although the Nordic Hamstring Exercise (NHE) prevents hamstring injury in soccer players effectively, the annual incidence of these injuries still increases. This may be because of poor long-term compliance with the program. Furthermore, the timing and amplitude of gluteal and core muscle activation seem to play an important role in hamstring injury prevention, the NHE program was not designed to improve activation of these muscles. Therefore, we propose plyometric training as an alternative to reduce hamstring injuries in soccer players.
PURPOSE: To determine the preventive effec

Many exercise programs designed by trainers have the specific aim to enhance strength, endurance, or power of certain muscle groups to improve athletic performance. Muscle training is also an important component of rehabilitation to limit atrophy associated with immobilization, aging, or disease. To optimize exercise interventions, a good understanding of the response to various training programs and the identification of the mechanisms that influence muscle function are required. Changes in the performance of muscle contraction are associated, among other things, with muscle fiber-type expres

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an 8-week combined balance and plyometric training on the Change of Direction (COD) performance of young badminton players. The study hypothesized that 8 weeks of combined training would improve COD performance in young badminton players. A total of 48 young male badminton players were recruited and randomly assigned to two groups: balance + plyometric training (BP; n = 24) and plyometric training alone (PL; n = 24). All the participants completed a 2-week familiarization process before the intervention. Both groups underwent their respect

Complex training (CT; alternating between heavy and lighter load resistance exercises with similar movement patterns within an exercise session) is a form of training that may potentially bring about a state of postactivation potentiation, resulting in increased dynamic power (Pmax) and rate of force development during the lighter load exercise. Such a method may be more effective than either modality, independently for developing strength. The purpose of this research was to compare the effects of resistance training (RT), plyometric training (PT), and CT on lower body strength and anthropome

In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of acute fatigue on pistol shooting performance among Air Force marksmen. We compared the accuracy, precision, speed-accuracy trade-off, shooting cycle time, and hits on a silhouette target among 12 Brazilian Air Force servicemen (M age = 21.5, SD - 1.6 years) under both fatigue and non-fatigue conditions in a crossover design. In the fatigued condition, the participants performed a fatigue protocol composed of side runs, vertical jumps, push-ups, running, and burpees exercises before shooting. Participants performed the countermovement jump an

BACKGROUND: The effects of training interventions on interlimb balance performance have been recently investigated. However, no comparison was conducted between the impact of a single-mode versus combined training modality, whereby complementary adaptations are suggested for the latter.
OBJECTIVE: Thus, we investigated the effects of a single-mode versus combined training modality on interlimb static and dynamic balance performance in soccer players.
METHODS: Young male soccer players (N = 57, Tier level 3) were randomly allocated to a unilateral single-mode balance training (BT) group (n =

Background: Explosive strength is essential for rhythmic gymnasts’ performance. It has been suggested that core stability (CS) and plyometric training can enhance athletes’ explosive strength. Nevertheless, there is some uncertainty about the effects of integrated core and plyometric training (CPT) programs on rhythmic gymnastics (RG) performances. Purpose: to evaluate the effects of an integrated functional CPT program on young rhythmic gymnasts’ explosive strength and jump/leap performance. Method: We recruited 44 young (age = 10.5 ± 1.8 years old; peak height velocity, PHV = 12.2 ± 0.6 year

A Hill-Sachs lesion is a bony defect in the head of the humerus due to recurrent dislocation, which results in friction between the humeral head and the glenoid fossa. This recurrent incident of dislocation that occurs in the anterior direction eventually leads to a Bankart lesion (a defect in the glenoid rim). A 21-year-old male, a recreational football player, reported recurrent shoulder dislocation, complaining of pain and difficulty doing certain activities. He had hypermobility of the shoulder joint during joint play assessment. Proprioception is the sense of the position and movement of

With advancing age, the skeletal muscle extracellular matrix (ECM) undergoes fibrotic changes that may lead to increased muscle stiffness, injury susceptibility and strength loss. This study tested the potential of different exercises to counter these changes by stimulating the activity of genes associated with ECM remodeling. Twenty-six healthy men (66.9 ± 3.9 years) were stratified to two of four groups, performing unilateral (i) conventional resistance exercise, (ii) conventional resistance exercise followed by self-myofascial release (CEBR), (iii) eccentric-only exercise (ECC) or (iv) plyo
