Polypropylene Versus Polydioxanone Sutures for Fascial Closure in Emergency Midline Laparotomy: A Retrospective Comparative Study.

Background Emergency midline laparotomy is a commonly performed life-saving procedure and is associated with a high risk of postoperative wound complications, including surgical site infection, burst abdomen, and incisional hernia. Optimal fascial closure is critical for maintaining wound integrity, particularly in emergency and contaminated settings where mesh reinforcement is often not feasible. Polypropylene (Prolene®, Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company, Somerville, NJ, USA) and polydioxanone or PDO (PDS®, Ethicon, Somerville, NJ, USA) are among the most frequently used sutures for abdomi

Silk fibroin/dual drugs eluting polydioxanone monofilament braided ureteral stent with antibacterial and anti-stenotic functions.

Placement of ureteral stents is an effective method for treating ureteral stricture clinically. Long-term placement leads to calcium salt deposition, stones and infection issues. Hence, development of ureteral stents with antibacterial and anti-stenosis functions is of great significance. In this work, polydioxanone (PDO) monofilament was braided into a tubular stent and then coated with silk fibroin (SF) microspheres loading of rapamycin (RAPA) and paclitaxel (PTX), subsequently, SF-loaded moxifloxacin (MFX) film with a biomimetic lotus leaf structure was formed onto the inner layer of the st

Post-urethroplasty complications in hypospadias repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing polydioxanone and polyglactin sutures.

BACKGROUND: Polyglactin (PG) and polydioxanone (PDS) sutures are extensively used based on the surgeon's preference. The development of post-reconstruction urethrocutaneous fistula (UCF) is variably attributed to the choice of suture material for urethroplasty. This meta-analysis compares complications of hypospadias repair using PG and PDS sutures. METHODS: The systematic review and meta-analysis were performed as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The authors conducted thorough searches in databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Scop

Septal Perforation Repair in a Patient With Medically Managed Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis Using Temporoparietal Fascia With Polydioxanone Sheet.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a systemic vasculitis with frequent otolaryngologic manifestations, including nasal septal perforation (NSP) secondary to ischemic necrosis of the septal cartilage. While conservative therapy is often first-line, surgical repair may be indicated in patients with symptomatic or refractory perforations. Limited literature exists regarding septal perforation repair in patients with GPA. We report 1-year postoperative results on the case of a 19-year-old male with a 5-year history of GPA, medically controlled on immunosuppressive therapy, who presented wit
