OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of vulvodynia in Portugal and factors associated with this condition.
METHODS: In a cross-sectional study, an online survey was distributed by email and posted on a website and social networks. Women aged at least 18 years who were living in Portugal were eligible to complete the survey between June 1 and November 30, 2013. Childhood tuberculosis (TB) is difficult to diagnose and there are no standardised case definitions. TB records of patients aged >5 years reported in Northern Portugal between 2000 and 2009 were reviewed. Of the 116 children diagnosed with TB, 72 (62.1%) were male; the mean age was 2.2 ± 1.2 years. The prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in Portugal is still unknown. Recent studies conducted in southern European countries showed higher than expected rates of MS prevalence. BACKGROUND: Listeriosis is a rare disease caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, the normal vehicle of which is food. The disease, which is largely confined to its risk groups of pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals, has increased in incidence in recent years. In Portugal, listeriosis is not a notifiable infection and available data are scarce. The primary objective of newborn screening of hemoglobinopathies is the early identification of infants with sickle cell disease, as they are at increased clinical risk. Other goals include the identification of other types of clinically significant hemoglobinopathies and the detection of heterozygous carriers followed by the screening and counselling of family members. Between 1971 and 1980, 220 patients were observed and treated. The patients were classified according to various parameters: age, previous pregnancies, pathology reports of specimens obtained from the uterus, and site of metastasis. We report a multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae exhibiting resistance to ceftriaxone and cefixime, isolated in Portugal in 2019. Leishmaniosis caused by Leishmania infantum is a zoonotic disease endemic in many countries of America, Asia and Europe, including Portugal. Dogs are the major reservoir of L. infantum, but domestic cats may also be infected.
