The complication rate following Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet laser posterior capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification in patients with and without comorbidities.

PURPOSE: To study the complication rate following Nd: YAG posterior capsulotomy posterior capsular opacification (PCO) in patients with and without comorbid conditions. METHODS: This was a prospective, interventional, comparative, and observational study. A total of 80 eyes, consisting of 40 eyes without ocular comorbidities (group A) and 40 eyes with ocular comorbidities (group B) that were being treated with Nd: YAG capsulotomy for PCO, were included. Visual outcome and complications of Nd: YAG capsulotomy were studied. RESULTS: The mean age of group A patients was 61.65 ± 8.85 years and t

Pupil block glaucoma after neodymium:YAG capsulotomy in a patient with a partially subluxated posterior chamber intraocular lens.

A 73-year-old-woman presented following neodymium:YAG capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification with acute glaucoma. Previous cataract surgery had left her with a subluxated lens. Cornea edema obscured detail of the anterior chamber, but the edge of the lens could be seen clearly within the pupillary space. This produced a diagnostic dilemma because no obvious cause for pupil block could be seen. She failed to respond to medical therapy and had a laser iridotomy, following which her symptoms resolved. We believe this case demonstrates the importance of a laser iridotomy to exclude pupil

The evaluation of the effect of Nd-YAG capsulotomy on posterior ocular vascular structures by Optical coherence tomography angiography.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to examine the changes in retinal, choroidal and optic nerve head vascular structures after Nd-YAG laser application due to posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery by Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: Fifteen eyes of 15 patients who have posterior capsule opasification and underwent Nd-YAG laser capsulotomy were included in the study. OCTA imagings of patients were made before and one hour, one week and one month later after the laser procedure. RESULTS: No significant change was determined before and after capsulotomy in macular th

[Effect of posterior neodymium:YAG capsulotomy. Safety evaluation of macular foveal thickness, intraocular pressure and endothelial cell loss in pseudophakic patients with posterior capsule opacification].

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of posterior capsulotomy on macular thickness, intraocular pressure and endothelial cell loss in pseudophakic patients with posterior capsule opacification using the other eye of every patient as a control. METHODS: An observational prospective study was conducted on 31 pseudophakic patients with posterior capsular opacification in one eye, using the other eye as a control. Patients did not suffer any other ocular pathology. All patients were treated by posterior capsular opacification with Nd:YAG capsulotomy, and followed up for a three-month period. The oc

Intraocular pressure and the corneal endothelium after neodymium-YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. Relative effects of aphakia and pseudophakia.

We studied intraocular pressure (IOP) changes and specular microscopic findings in 118 consecutive neodymium-YAG laser posterior capsulotomy procedures; 37 cases were aphakic, and 81 were pseudophakic. There was a significantly greater rise in IOP one hour after Nd-YAG laser treatment in the aphakic group than in the pseudophakic group (8.2 mm Hg vs 3.5 mm Hg, respectively). At one week postoperatively, IOPs in the aphakic group were still significantly elevated over baseline levels (3.6 mm Hg), while those in the pseudophakic group had returned to baseline levels. Differences in treatment bet

Detection of staphylococcus species by polymerase chain reaction in late-onset endophthalmitis after cataract surgery and posterior capsulotomy.

We report a case of late-onset endophthalmitis that developed 5 years after an uneventful phacoemulsification with implantation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens. Posterior capsulotomy was performed with by Nd:YAG laser 1 month after the cataract surgery. Polymerase chain reaction with agarose gel electrophoresis identified a Staphylococcus species in a sample from the aqueous humour. The endophthalmitis was responsive to medical therapy including antibiotic agents, and it resolved without any surgical intervention.

Visual Outcomes, Intraocular Pressure Changes, and Complications Following Nd:YAG (Neodymium-Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) Laser Posterior Capsulotomy for Posterior Capsular Opacification: A Prospective Clinical Study.

Aims and backgrounds Posterior capsular opacification (PCO) is the most common long-term complication after cataract surgery. It leads to decreased contrast sensitivity, distracting glare, and impaired vision. The neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy is the de facto standard for non-invasive treatment of visually significant PCO. It enables rapid vision recovery and is considered a gold standard procedure. Nevertheless, complications including increased intraocular pressure (IOP), cystoid macular edema (CME), and retinal detachment are possible following

Introducing a modified neodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet posterior capsulotomy technique: Case series study of a continuous ascending linear shot pattern.

ObjectiveNeodymium:yttrium aluminum garnet laser capsulotomy is the gold standard treatment for posterior capsule opacification. Herein, we described a novel technique that has the potential to enhance the efficacy and safety of this procedure.MethodsThe technique utilizes multiple continuous ascending linear pattern laser shots, beginning at the bottom and forming successive horizontal rows upward. This approach results in a circular capsulotomy with minimal residual cloudiness along the edge of the intraocular lens optic.ResultsA total of 26 eyes from 23 patients with posterior capsule opaci

Incidence and associated factors of Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy after premium IOL implantation surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

AIMS: Although premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) have become a prominent choice in modern cataract surgery, they may be more prone to posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and subsequent neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) posterior capsulotomy. This study aims to systematically evaluate the incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy after premium IOLs implantation and identify associated factors. METHODS: An exhaustive literature search was performed on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases up to 12 June 2024, for studies reporting Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy incidence after prem
