INTRODUCTION: Interstitial pregnancies are a rare form of ectopic pregnancy with life threatening consequences. Thus, the aim of this report is to shed light on the importance of early diagnosis for optimal outcomes.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we present a case of an interstitial ectopic pregnancy in a 31-year-old Syrian female who presented only with mild non-specific abdominal pain. The ultrasound showed a gestational sac in the right horn of the uterus non-communicating with the endometrial cavity suggesting an interstitial ectopic pregnancy. Cornual excision and salpingectomy were perform

An ectopic pregnancy (EP) occurs when the fertilised ovum implants outside the endometrial cavity. An EP has an incidence of 1%, with the majority occurring in the fallopian tube. It has a maternal mortality of 0.2 per 1000, with about two-thirds of these deaths associated with substandard care. An interstitial pregnancy occurs when the EP implants in the interstitial part of the fallopian tube. An interstitial ectopic pregnancy (IEP) shows few early clinical symptoms, hence it is associated with serious or fatal bleeding and a mortality rate up to 2.5%. With the advent of transvaginal ultraso

Early recognition and timely treatment of an interstitial pregnancy is imperative to avoid the high morbidity and mortality of this type of ectopic pregnancy. We report a case of twin interstitial pregnancy that was initially missed on initial sonogram and was subsequently recognized at our institution by transvaginal sonography. The patient underwent open laparoscopic surgery with cornual wedge resection but suffered infundibulopelvic ligament hemorrhage and subsequently required ipsilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. She did well and was discharged home a day later.

Painful bladder syndrome (PBS) and interstitial cystitis (IC) often affect women of child-bearing age. This article includes information of interest to PBS/IC patients who are pregnant or contemplating pregnancy, and to the clinicians who care for them. One topic is how pregnancy affects PBS/IC symptoms, although little is known at this time. The article also describes the pregnancy risks associated with the most commonly used PBS/IC treatments. Finally, the current knowledge regarding genetic factors in IC is discussed.

The ampulla portion of the fallopian tube is the most common site of ectopic pregnancy (70%), with approximately 2% of pregnancies implanted in the interstitial portion. In general, an interstitial ectopic pregnancy (IEP) is difficult to diagnose and is associated with a high rate of complications-most patients with an IEP present with severe abdominal pain and haemorrhagic shock due to an ectopic rupture. Chronic tubal pregnancy (CTP) is an uncommon condition with an incidence of 20%. The CTP has a longer clinical course and a negative or low level of serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin d

Interstitial pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy with significant risk for morbidity. A 32-year-old woman, was brought to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain and syncope. There was no history of menolipsis and usage of any contraceptive methods. Serum ß hCG arrival was 11224 IU/L. Trans-vaginal ultrasound scan showed an empty uterus with a displaced 16 × 26 mm gestation sac on the left corn of the uterine cavity which surrounded by a thin myometrium. Free abdominal fluid and coagulum were also detected in the cul-de-sac. She was haemodynamically unstable. A ruptured e

The authors describe an extremely rare combination of simultaneous intrauterine and interstitial pregnancy. In spite of the rupture of interstitial pregnancy in the 13th week and cornual resection, it was possible to restrain the intrauterine pregnancy under careful control until the 38th week, when a healthy mature baby was delivered by elective Caesarian section. The cicatrix of the uterus after cornual resection held the pregnancy well. Severe anaemia as a consequence of the bleeding before and during operation was quickly corrected and did not harm the further development of the child.

BACKGROUND: Interstitial pregnancy has an estimated maternal mortality rate seven times greater than the mortality rate for ectopic pregnancies in general. For this reason, early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment and favorable outcomes in patients with this type of ectopic pregnancy. We report the rare case of a Portuguese white woman with a spontaneous twin interstitial pregnancy with embryonic cardiac activity, its diagnosis, and surgical management, as well as a literature review on the specificities of this scenario.
CASE PRESENTATION: A Portuguese white woman in her early fort

We present a case of a 40-year-old lady with 9 weeks of amenorrhea diagnosed with an interstitial pregnancy and multiple uterine fibroids. She underwent laparoscopic salpingectomy including the interstitial part of fallopian tube with products of conception without myomectomy and cornuostomy. Intra-operative blood loss was minimal. She was followed up post-operatively with weekly serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin (serum β-hCG), which down-trended optimally at day 23 of surgery. Histopathology confirmed ectopic pregnancy with underlying salpingitis isthmica nodosa. Patient recovered well.

Objective: To explore the related factors and early predictors of persistent ectopic pregnancy (PEP) in patients with interstitial pregnancy after operation. Methods: The clinical data of patients with interstitial pregnancy who underwent surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2013 to August 2021 were collected. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether PEP occurred (8 patients in PEP group and 124 patients in non-PEP group). Using propensity score matching (PSM) analysis, the basic data, surgical methods, t

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the perioperative and pregnancy outcomes among different surgical approaches and methods for treating heterotopic pregnancy (HP) and to identify the risk factors for the loss of intrauterine pregnancy (IUP).
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 59 cases of interstitial and angular HP treated surgically between 2014 and 2024 in two women's health centers in southwest China. Surgical methods included multi-port laparoscopy (MPL), transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (TU-LESS), and conventional laparotomy (CL), along with cornual wedge resection and linea

Approximately 1% of all ectopic pregnancies are located within the uterine interstitial space or cornua. The mortality rate has been reported as 2%-2.5% if left untreated. Traditional treatment of interstitial pregnancy includes methotrexate medical management, interstitial wedge resection or cornuostomy. We present a case of hysteroscopic resection of an interstitial pregnancy using a hysteroscopic resectoscope in a woman in her 20s, gravida 2, para 1 at 6 weeks of gestation who presented to the emergency room for vaginal bleeding. She was diagnosed by ultrasound with an interstitial ectopic

INTRODUCTION: Interstitial pregnancy, a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, occurs when implantation happens in the uterine wall's intramural tubal segment. Though uncommon, it carries high risks like hemorrhagic rupture, necessitating early diagnosis and prompt management.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old primigravida patient with no medical or surgical history and no particular risk factors presented with acute abdominal pain and minimal metrorrhagia. Physical examination revealed minimal uterine bleeding and slight pain on uterine mobilization. Ultrasound showed an enlarged uterus with a visib

Interstitial pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy in which the gestational sac implants in a unique location within the uterus. Rupture of an interstitial pregnancy can lead to severe, potentially life-threatening uterine hemorrhage. Common treatment options include laparoscopic surgery to incise the myometrium and remove the embryo, laparoscopic wedge resection of the lesion, or medical therapy. However, these surgical interventions can compromise the integrity of the uterine muscle layer and may lead to fallopian tube obstruction. This report concerns the case of a 29-year-old patie

The term intramural (interstitial) ectopic pregnancy refers to a pregnancy developing outside the uterine cavity, with a gestational sac implanted into the interstitial part of the Fallopian tube, surrounded by a layer of the myometrium. The prevalence rate of interstitial pregnancy (IP) is 2-4% of all ectopic pregnancies. Surgery is the primary treatment for interstitial ectopic pregnancy; the pharmacological management of ectopic pregnancy, including IP, in asymptomatic patients includes systemic administration of methotrexate. In this report, we present two cases of this rare pregnancy type

Amyoplasia is a specific form of arthrogryposis, without any genetic cause. Six to ten percent of amyoplasia cases are one of the monozygotic twins, with the other twin being normal. Failure of maturation of anterior horn cells (AHCs) due to ischemic injury has been postulated as the primary pathological change, leading to arrest in the development of muscle fibers supplied by the affected AHCs with the typical limb positioning seen in amyoplasia. Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is an important risk factor for ischemic injury in monozygotic twin pregnancies. We present a case of monoc
