3D printing has emerged as an advanced manufacturing technology in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. Despite much focus on enteral applications, there has been a lack of research focused on potential benefits of 3D printing for parenteral applications such as wound dressings, biomedical devices, and regenerative medicines. 3D printing technologies, including fused deposition modeling, vat polymerization, and powder bed printing, allow for rapid prototyping of personalized medications, capable of producing dosage forms with flexible dimensions based on patient anatomy as well as dosage form

BACKGROUND: Static progressive orthosis is used for the treatment of severe joint contracture after trauma and/or surgery. However, a custom-fabricated static progressive splint would be expensive and labor intensive. Especially, owing to very limited payment under the current Taiwanese National Health Insurance, the incentives to fabricate a patient-specific splint are insufficient for a therapist. To ease splint construction, we introduced three-dimensional (3D)-printed "shark fin"-shaped device works as a static progressive orthosis for the hand rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to

The basic concepts from the fields of biology and engineering are integrated into tissue engineering to develop constructs for the repair of damaged and/or absent tissues, respectively. The field has grown substantially over the past two decades, with particular interest in bone tissue engineering (BTE). Clinically, there are circumstances in which the quantity of bone that is necessary to restore form and function either exceeds the patient's healing capacity or bone's intrinsic regenerative capabilities. Vascularized osseous or osteocutaneous free flaps are the standard of care with autologo

BACKGROUND: Pessaries are a treatment option for pelvic organ prolapse, stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and cervical incompetence. An effective pessary is comfortable, corrects the presenting problem, does not cause adverse effects, and is easy to remove. Discomfort and poor fit limit the usefulness of pessaries for many women. Each patient presents with unique anatomy and thus the effectiveness of commercially available pessaries may be limited by lack of customization.
METHOD: A patient presenting with SUI and failed commercial pessary fittings desired nonsurgical treatment. Using a mold

Complex congenital aortic anomalies include diverse types of malformations that may be clinically asymptomatic or present with respiratory or esophageal symptoms. These anomalies may be associated with other congenital heart diseases. It is hard to identify the accurate anatomic vessel location from two-dimensional imaging data, such as computed tomography. As an additive manufacturing method, three-dimensional (3-D) printing can covert the acquired imaging data into 3-D physical models. This protocol describes the procedure for modeling the volumetric DICOM imaging into 3-D data and printing

Forty-five exposed workers from a printing facility at Menoufia University and 45 controls were chosen for this study. All subjects underwent evaluations (personal histories and clinical examinations) and laboratory tests to determine blood lead levels and pure tone hearing thresholds. The work environment was tested for total respirable lead in fumes and particles and for noise levels. Total respirable lead was as high as 23.7 microg/m3; the noise level was as high as 50 dB. The exposed workers' mean blood lead level was significantly higher than that of the controls (36.94 +/- 4.36 and 11.51

Additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, has gained significant popularity for its ability to produce intricate parts with high precision. However, the presence of residual stresses and warpage deformation are common issues affecting the quality and functionality of 3D-printed parts. This study conducts a comprehensive finite element analysis (FEA) to investigate the material-dependent impact of key printing parameters on residual stress and warpage deformation in 3D printing. The research focuses on three distinct materials: polyetherimide (PEI), acrylonitrile butadiene sty

Three-dimensional, interconnected hydrogel networks are central to tissue engineering and disease modeling, where tailored pore architecture and mechanical robustness are essential for supporting cellular functions. However, the limited ability to engineer microstructural features in vat polymerization 3D-printed natural hydrogels often compromises scaffold performance, as oversized pores reduce cell attachment and cell-cell interactions while smooth pore walls lack essential topographical cues. Here, we report an emulsion-based ink for vat polymerization 3D printing that enables the fabricati

Nucleic acid microarrays are widely used in many biological and medical applications. One of the critical steps in the nucleic acid microarray is the placement of nucleic acid molecules using molecular printing in designated spots on the substrate to produce molecular patterns. Molecular printing involves loading molecules onto a printer head and then mechanically moving the head to deposit them in the designed areas on the substrate. This study focuses on eliminating bulky mechanical and moving components in printing technologies, thereby enabling scalable molecular printing. We have employed

Magnetostrictive materials hold non-contact stimulation-responsive properties, which exhibit promising prospects in aviation and marine engineering. However, high-end equipment is frequently employed in changeable environments during service. A slight deformation in magnetostrictive effect makes it complicated to meet the demands of macroscopic applications. 4D printing is that the 3D printed object could evolve with time when it is under specific stimuli. Herein, we present a method of 4D printing magnetostrictive materials to endow service parts with laser-responsive macroscopic strain and m
