We report the case of a neonate who developed septicemia due to a methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus strain at six days of age. At eight days of age, physical evaluation revealed a tense, tender abdomen and further enlargement of the liver, and abdominal ultrasonography demonstrated multiple liver abscesses. On the following day, pleuropulmonary lesions developed and required mechanical ventilation. An outbreak of Corynebacterium group D2 urinary tract infections was recently observed at Nice CHR. These infections were characterized by alkaline urine. The aim of the study presented here was to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus over a 7-year period. A total of 2,122 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were collected from hospitalized patients at 3-year intervals during the period 1991-1997.
