As a widely offered course in International Relations (IR) programs, the teaching and learning of Southeast Asian Regional Dynamics (SARD) struggles to adopt a pedagogical strategy that counters stagnancy and passive learning. The problem is exacerbated when SARD courses discuss topics of sustainability in Southeast Asia, which obligates instructors to introduce complex empirical cases that may be difficult for students to grasp. As a means to ignite the students' interests and allow a platform in which students can see directly the issues that defy sustainable development in the region, this

Interprofessional education (IPE) is a core component of the curricula for many healthcare and social work training programs and has been shown to increase student self-efficacy, communication skills, and attitudes toward other professions. Street medicine programs expand options for teaching interprofessional, team-based care of vulnerable populations, such as those experiencing homelessness. Street Medicine Phoenix is an interprofessional team of health professions students and faculty that provides outreach to Phoenix's homeless population. This study demonstrates the impact of volunteering

Active learning and professional citizenship are widely discussed in nursing education, yet the conditions under which they converge have not been theoretically specified. In this paper, we advance a structural account of that relation, drawing on deliberative theory, philosophy of education, and nursing scholarship. The relation we describe is one of shared enabling conditions rather than causal production: active learning and professional citizenship converge not because one produces the other, but because each depends on arrangements that require public justification through reasons, engage

The number of undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds enrolled in science and technology-related courses has increased over the past 20 years, but these students' persistence in STEM majors until graduation still lags behind the overall college population. Interventions like exposure to independent research, instruction using active learning, and connection within a scientific community have been shown to increase persistence and the development of science identity, especially for underrepresented minority students (URM), students with high financial need, and first-generation

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being explored for a growing range of applications in radiology, including image reconstruction, image segmentation, synthetic image generation, disease classification, worklist triage, and examination scheduling. However, training accurate AI models typically requires substantial amounts of expert-labeled data, which can be time-consuming and expensive to obtain. Active learning offers a potential strategy for mitigating the impacts of such labeling requirements. In contrast with other machine learning approaches used for data-limited situations, active learnin

BACKGROUND: The high student-to-faculty ratio is an obstacle in the reform of teaching methods in master's programmes of nursing education in China. Though Kim's study showed that team-based learning (TBL) can be implemented in high student-to-faculty ratio classes, it is still a challenge for students accustomed to the traditional didactic lecture (TDL) teaching method, and the lack of an inclusive design model has restricted the effective application of TBL.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of TBL on postgraduate nursing students with lecture-based teaching with small group discussion (LBTW

Use of a delirium escape room is an effective teaching modality that has demonstrated the application of didactic knowledge into clinical practice. Positive comments were shared by all participating nurses. In addition, this learning method was found to be effective for experienced as well as newly licensed nurses. This team building activity evolved into discussions about real life patients who experienced delirium and each group was able to connect the contributing factors with their patients. Communication, coordination, and collaboration were key components as to what lead to a successful

PURPOSE: In recent decades, educators have pushed to implementing active learning techniques that can advance students' competences. Universities are increasingly required to develop knowledge measured in terms of grades (hard skills) and inter-personal, social, and communication abilities (soft skills). Nevertheless, within the field of active learning, educators often focus on how these techniques can improve students' hard skills and their satisfaction. Few have analysed whether and how these techniques might improve students' soft skills. Moreover, among these few studies, the majority has

It is critical for health professionals to continue to learn and this must be supported by health professions education (HPE). Adaptive expert clinicians are not only expert in their work but have the additional capacity to learn and improve in their practices. The authors review a selective aspect of learning to become an adaptive expert: the capacity to optimally balance routine approaches that maximize efficiency with innovative ones where energy and resources are used to customize actions for novel or difficult situations. Optimal transfer of learning, and hence the design of instruction,

BACKGROUND: Design thinking is a problem-solving framework that has been used to enhance patient experiences, improve clinical outcomes, and refine medical curricula. This study reviewed the use of design thinking in health professions education.
METHODS: A search yielded 169 articles, which were excluded if they were: (1) not related to education; (2) lacking an application of design thinking; or (3) not associated with healthcare. The final review yielded 15 articles, which were analyzed using qualitative methods.
RESULTS: All articles were published in 2009 or later and were diverse in th

This study evaluates the effectiveness of large language models (LLMs), specifically Claude Sonnet 4.0 and ChatGPT 4.1, for analyzing formative feedback to support student-centered learning (SCL). In large courses, instructors often struggle to promptly review and synthesize student input. We used a low-stakes task: analyzing 63 anonymous student responses to a Muddiest Point prompt in a human physiology class after a lecture on respiratory physiology. Across 20 runs, both LLMs consistently identified "Ventilation and Lung Mechanics" as the most frequent area of confusion, aligning with human

This cross-sectional study was conducted as an experiential project in a graduate Program Evaluation class. We worked together as a team to solve difficulties that occurred when evaluating a program for the first time, including overcoming initial fears and identifying the appropriate focus. The goal of this study was to identify the most common barriers to attendance at Bridgehaven Mental Health Services, a community-based outpatient program tailored to aid in the transition from hospitals to community living. External barriers to attendance were examined by an adapted version of the Structur

Experiential pharmacy education is expected to develop trainees who can participate in patient care, reason through ambiguity, communicate with interprofessional teams, and progress toward practice-ready or independent performance. Pharmacy practice experiences are often organized around clinical exposure, topic discussions, patient presentations, and summative experiential education (EE) evaluations. While these activities are valuable, they may not reliably reveal how expert pharmacists recognize problems, prioritize information, negotiate uncertainty, and act within local communities of pra

BACKGROUND: Dispensing can be a strategic clinical service when organized around the care process. Such models are relevant in university affiliated pharmacies (UPh), where service delivery is integrated with experiential education. However, their implementation may be challenged by organizational resistance. This study explored barriers and facilitators to implementing a medicines dispensing service model from a sociotechnical perspective.
METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted in a UPh. Participants were pharmacist preceptors, faculty members, and pharmacy interns (n = 18). Data were co

Natural disasters and emergency situations, such as a massive cyberattacks can occur without warning and can impact academic operations, including experiential education. Weather-related catastrophes like hurricanes, tornados, flooding, and forest fires, require action to support students, preceptors, and communities, while cyberattacks and other challenges to technological infrastructure require similarly coordinated responses. Often, a "perfect storm" of circumstances leads to compounding issues and associated challenges for experiential educational operations, while also impacting local pop

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, there has been a national push to incorporate high-fidelity quality improvement and patient safety (QIPS) education into physician training programs. In fact, integration of robust patient safety education became an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Common Program Requirement for residency programs in 2017. We developed a curriculum to not only fulfill the ACGME's requirement but also provide PGY 1 internal medicine residents with the skills needed to become active participants in ongoing patient safety work throughout their training an

While the innovativeness of the flipped classroom (FC) approach promotes active participation and higher-order thinking among students, there are concerns about its effectiveness in terms of knowledge retention. Currently, there are no studies involving medical school biochemistry that evaluate this aspect of effectiveness. Thus, we conducted a historical control study that analyzed observational data from two freshman batches of the Doctor of Medicine program in our institution. Class 2021 (n = 250) served as the traditional lecture (TL) group while Class 2022 (n = 264) served as the FC group

On average, active learning improves student achievement in college science courses, yet may present challenges for students with disabilities. In this essay, we review the history of accommodating students with disabilities in higher education, highlight how active learning may not always be inclusive of college science students with disabilities, and articulate three questions that could guide research as the science community strives to create more inclusive environments for undergraduates with disabilities: 1) To what extent do stakeholders (disability resource center [DRC] directors, inst
