Elicitation of fetal ECG from abdominal recordings using Blind Source Separation techniques and Robust Set Membership Affine Projection algorithm for signal quality enhancement.

BACKGROUND: The utilization of non-invasive techniques for fetal cardiac health surveillance is pivotal in evaluating fetal well-being throughout the gestational period. This process requires clean and interpretable fetal Electrocardiogram (fECG) signals. METHOD: The proposed work is the novel framework for the elicitation of fECG signals from abdominal ECG (aECG) recordings of the pregnant mother. The comprehensive approach encompasses pre-processing of the raw ECG signal, Blind Source Separation techniques (BSS), Decomposition techniques like Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), and its vari

Ipsilateral corticocortical projections of fibers which course within Probst's longitudinal bundle seen in the brains of mice with congenital absence of the corpus callosum: a study with the horseradish peroxidase technique.

In the brains of mice with congenital absence of the corpus callosum, Probst's longitudinal bundle is always present in both cerebral hemispheres. In this research, the ipsilateral corticocortical projections by the fibers in this bundle were studied by iontophoretical injections of horseradish peroxidase into different loci in the neocortex of acallosal mouse brains. Our results show that the 'intrinsic' association fibers seen in normal mice are preserved unchanged in acallosal mice and that in these mice, a considerable portion of the fibers arising from a particular cortical region and cou

Iterative reconstruction technique vs filter back projection: utility for quantitative bronchial assessment on low-dose thin-section MDCT in patients with/without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of the iterative reconstruction (IR) technique for quantitative bronchial assessment during low-dose computed tomography (CT) as a substitute for standard-dose CT in patients with/without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. METHODS: Fifty patients (mean age, 69.2; mean % predicted FEV1, 79.4) underwent standard-dose CT (150mAs) and low-dose CT (25mAs). Except for tube current, the imaging parameters were identical for both protocols. Standard-dose CT was reconstructed using filtered back-projection (FBP), and low-dose CT was rec

Differences in the collateralization of neuronal projections from the dorsal column nuclei and lateral cervical nucleus to the thalamus and tectum in the cat: an anatomical study using two different double-labeling techniques.

The dorsal column nuclei (DCN) and the lateral cervical nucleus (LCN) project to the diencephalon and tectum. In order to determine which neurons project to these targets and whether any of them have collateral projections, the double-retrograde labeling techniques developed by Hayes and Rustioni and Kuypers et al. were used. Both strategies produced similar results. Within DCN, neurons which projected to the diencephalon were located differently and had a different morphology than those which projected to the tectum. The diencephalic-projecting neurons, which were preferentially located withi

Role of projective psychological tests in patients with Prader-Willi syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness and relevance of projective techniques such as house-tree-person (HTP) and family in individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), who have a limited ability to identify and verbalize emotions and express them often using behaviors. METHODS: We included individuals with genetic confirmation of PWS immersed in a regular transdisciplinary treatment in an institution dedicated to rare diseases. All individuals were evaluated using the HTP and family projective techniques. These instruments are commonly administered to the gen

Readout Sweet Spots for Spin Qubits with Strong Spin-Orbit Interaction.

Qubit readout schemes often deviate from ideal projective measurements, introducing critical issues that limit quantum computing performance. In this Letter, we model charge-sensing-based readout for semiconductor spin qubits in double quantum dots, and identify key error mechanisms caused by the backaction of the charge sensor. We quantify how the charge noise of the sensor, residual tunneling, and g-tensor modulation degrade readout fidelity, induce a mixed postmeasurement state, and cause leakage from the computational subspace. For state-of-the-art systems with strong spin-orbit interactio

The use of an animal drawing test in the assessment and disposition of transsexualism.

Reported results of a study that compared two projective techniques for a group of 19 transsexuals who were seeking sex reassignment surgery. The Draw-A-Person Test (DAP), widely used in clinical settings, was contrasted to the Animal and Opposite Drawing Technique (AODT), which is a relatively new and little-examined variation of the DAP. Discussion focuses on the use of both measures as predictors of those transsexuals to be recommended for surgery. Use of the AODT as an effective measure in the assessment of transsexualism is investigated.

Retrieving space-dependent polarization transformations via near-optimal quantum process tomography.

An optical waveplate rotating light polarization can be modeled as a single-qubit unitary operator. This analogy can be exploited to experimentally retrieve a polarization transformation within the paradigm of quantum process tomography. Standard approaches to tomographic problems rely on the maximum-likelihood estimation, providing the most likely transformation to yield the same outcomes as a set of experimental projective measurements. The performances of this method strongly depend on the number of input measurements and the numerical minimization routine that is adopted. Here we investiga

An occupational therapy program with the chronic care patient.

The following is an example of what the occupational therapists at the Allan Memorial Institute in Montreal have done to accommodate the changing psychiatric population at the hospital. Over the past few years it seemed that certain of our programmes, being too high level, were no longer suitable for the more chronic type patient, being admitted. Thus, a re-examination of attitudes towards treatment was necessary as was the establishment of programmes with a different orientation. In doing this, the focus changed from former techniques such as projective art to a concentration on more reality

The psychosocial adjustment of pediatric craniofacial patients after surgery.

The postsurgical psychological status of 25 craniofacial patients, 6 through 16 years of age, was studied using self, teacher, and parent report measures. In contrast to earlier reports of more positive adjustment following corrective surgery, the present study identified several concerns for craniofacial patients, including low self-esteem, impaired peer relationships, and greater dependency on significant adults. Problems were more clearly identified using projective techniques rather than self-report measures. The findings suggest that many children having craniofacial surgery should have s

The role of laser surface imaging in the evaluation of craniomaxillofacial disorders: the Singapore General Hospital experience.

The medical profession today, has the choice of many imaging techniques for documenting, investigating, assessing or planning treatment. Amongst them, the laser surface imaging system is emerging as a useful tool to capture and store digital data for reformatting into a three-dimensional computer model. The laser scanning system captures only the surface morphology of a subject, and is highly appropriate for the evaluation of surface morphological changes of craniofacial disorders. Although originally acquired for the study of facial anthropometry, many other clinical uses have been found for
