Does transcranial direct current stimulation to the prefrontal cortex affect social behavior? A meta-analysis.

This meta-analysis (k = 48, N = 2196) examined the effect of transcranial direct current brain stimulation (tDCS) applied to the prefrontal cortex on a variety of social behaviors, including aggression, overeating, impulsivity, bias, honesty, and risk-taking. tDCS showed an overall significant effect on reducing undesirable behaviors, with an average effect size of d = -0.20. tDCS was most effective at reducing risk-taking behavior, bias, and overeating. tDCS did not affect aggression, impulsivity, or dishonesty. We examined moderators such as brain region of interest, online vs offline stimul

Tobacco smoking and gastric cancer: meta-analyses of published data versus pooled analyses of individual participant data (StoP Project).

Tobacco smoking is one of the main risk factors for gastric cancer, but the magnitude of the association estimated by conventional systematic reviews and meta-analyses might be inaccurate, due to heterogeneous reporting of data and publication bias. We aimed to quantify the combined impact of publication-related biases, and heterogeneity in data analysis or presentation, in the summary estimates obtained from conventional meta-analyses. We compared results from individual participant data pooled-analyses, including the studies in the Stomach Cancer Pooling (StoP) Project, with conventional met

Rituximab Effectiveness and Safety for Treating Primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS): Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disease that involves the exocrine glands and internal organs. pSS leads to destruction and loss of secretory function due to intense lymphoplasmacytic infiltration. Therapeutic options include mainly symptomatic and supportive measures, and traditional immunosuppressant drugs have shown no effectiveness in randomized trials. Rituximab (RTX) is a chimeric antibody anti-CD20 that leads to B cell depletion by diverse mechanisms. There is evidence that this drug may be effective for treating pSS. The objective of this systemati

Neonatal jaundice and autism spectrum disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Two meta-analyses concluded that jaundice was associated with an increased risk of autism. We hypothesize that these findings were due to methodological limitations of the studies included. Neonatal jaundice affects many infants and risks of later morbidity may prompt physicians towards more aggressive treatment. METHODS: To conduct a systematic literature review and a meta-analysis of the association between neonatal jaundice and autism with particular attention given to low risk of bias studies. Publication rates of registered strabismus trials from ClinicalTrials.gov.

Presently, little is known regarding the characteristics and publication rates of registered strabismus trials from ClinicalTrials.gov. We queried registered strabismus trials that were completed prior to January 1, 2021, from ClinicalTrials.gov. Publication of trials in peer-reviewed journals was confirmed using PubMed.gov, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Google Scholar. Of the 117 trials found, only 69 (59%) were published with a publication delay of nearly 2.5 years. Interventional trials were associated with publication status compared with observational trials. The low publication rates and signi

Efficacy and safety of fecal microbiota transplantation for chronic constipation: a systematic review and meta-analysis integrating pre-post and single-arm evidence.

BACKGROUND: Chronic constipation is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder with a global prevalence of 12%-17%. Conventional treatments have limited efficacy for refractory cases, with high recurrence and side effects. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) offers a novel strategy by restoring gut microecological balance, yet its efficacy requires systematic evaluation. This meta-analysis evaluated FMT efficacy and safety through an innovative "three-in-one" framework. METHODS: We systematically searched CENTRAL, PubMed, Embase, and CNKI for RCTs, single-arm studies, and cohort studies
