Effects of Tai Chi Qigong on sleep quality in older male cancer survivors: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

To compare the efficacy of Tai Chi and Qigong (TCQ) versus exercise intensity-matched (EIM) and usual care (UC) on sleep quality in older male cancer survivors. We conducted a three-arm randomized controlled trial among male cancer survivors aged 55 years and older. Participants were randomized to UC or one of two group-based interventions (TCQ or EIM), delivered twice weekly for 12 weeks with follow-up through 12 months. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Linear contrasts estimated within-arm changes and between-arm differences with 95% confidence inte

A Tai chi and qigong mind-body program for low back pain: A virtually delivered randomized control trial.

BACKGROUND: Mind-body treatments have the potential to manage pain, yet their effectiveness when delivered online for the treatment of low back pain (LBP) is unknown. We sought to evaluate whether a virtually delivered mind-body program integrating tai chi, qigong, and meditation (VDTQM) is effective for treating LBP. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial compared VDTQM (n=175) to waitlist control (n=175). Eligible participants were at least 18 years old, had LBP for at least 6 weeks, were not pregnant, had not previously taken tai chi classes, and had not undergone spine surgery within 6

Effect of Liuzijue Qigong on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide with a substantial and increasing social and economic burden. Liuzijue Qigong is a kind of traditional Chinese Qigong exercises that Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners prescribe to individuals with COPD to strengthen the internal organs' function. Liuzijue Qigong was recommended for use in COPD rehabilitation, and some clinical trials indicate that Liuzijue Qigong would produce better functional capacity and quality of life of individuals with COPD. The objective of this stu

Qigong/Tai Chi Easy for fatigue in breast cancer survivors: Rationale and design of a randomized clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer survivors (BCSs) often report fatigue that persists for years following treatment. Despite a growing body of evidence for meditative movement practices to improve symptoms among BCSs, few studies have explored using Qigong/Tai Chi to reduce fatigue. Additionally, few have examined the biological mechanisms through which fatigue may be reduced using Qigong/Tai Chi. METHODS/STUDY DESIGN: We will recruit 250 fatigued, post-menopausal women diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 0-III), between 6months and 5years past primary treatment and randomize to a standardized Qigo

Two case reports of the acute effects of Qi therapy (external Qigong) on symptoms of cancer: short report.

This paper reports upon two case studies addressing the short-term effects of Qi therapy on symptoms of cancer in two terminally ill oncology patients. Changes in anxiety state, pain, discomfort, depression, mood, alertness, and fatigue in two cancer patients were assessed. Treatment involved four therapy sessions on alternate days over a 7-day period. After 20 min of Qi therapy, both patients experienced improvements in mood and alertness, and a reduction in pain, anxiety, depression, discomfort, and fatigue, on both the first and last days of the interventions. Furthermore, the scores record

Effect of artificial and human external qigong on electroencephalograms in rabbit and spontaneous electrical activity of the rat pineal gland.

External gigong emitted by a quartz crystal upon application of electric current was evaluated by its biological effects, such as changes in frequency-analyzed electroencephalograms (EEG) in rabbits and spontaneous electrical activity of the rat pineal gland. Physical properties of this external gigong cannot be evaluated by currently available physical means. Three types of EEG changes were produced depending on the intensity of current applied to the crystal. These changes corresponded fairly well to the dose-dependent EEG changes after intravenous administration of 5-hydroxytryptophan. A gi

A pilot randomized clinical trial examining the effects of Qigong on inflammatory status and sleep quality in people with Parkinson's disease.

BACKGROUND: Neuroinflammation contributes to degeneration of neurons in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). The concentrations of inflammatory cytokines, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, are often increased in people with PD and are associated with various non-motor symptoms. Qigong exercise is a mind-body practice which has been used as a rehabilitation intervention for people with PD. A previous study showed a strong association between sleep quality and inflammatory status. This study investigated the effect of Qigong on inflammatory status in people with PD and explored potential relationships be

Qigong Versus Usual Exercise in the Treatment of Chronic Nonspecific Low Back Pain as an Add-On to a Standardized Physiotherapy Program.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNSLBP) is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Exercise-based interventions, particularly strengthening exercises, are widely used in rehabilitation. However, mind-body approaches such as Qigong, which integrate movement, breath control, and mindfulness, may offer additional psychological benefits. Despite evidence supporting Qigong in pain management, its effectiveness as an adjunct to physiotherapy remains unclear. This study compared the effects of Qigong versus strengthening exercises, integrated into a standardized physiotherapy progra
