The structure and correlates of the Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire among U.S. racial/ethnic groups.

Research on externalizing psychopathology has relied heavily on White samples to generate core knowledge, with few studies examining variability in its components, including grandiose narcissism, across racial/ethnic groups. This preregistered (https://osf.io/n4s3f/) study addressed the following research questions: (1) Is there evidence for measurement invariance of the Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire (NARQ) across racial/ethnic groups?; (2) Are there racial/ethnic group differences in (a) mean levels of the two NARQ subscales: admiration and rivalry, and (b) correlations be

Risk Trajectories of Type 2 Diabetes-Related Microvascular Complications Across Racial/Ethnic Groups Among Older Adults.

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) microvascular complications are a major public health issue that disproportionately affects racial/ethnic minorities in the US. We aimed to address the limited understanding of racial/ethnic disparities in the longitudinal natural history of microvascular complications over eight years among older adults with T2DM in the US and Canada. METHODS: From 10,251 participants in the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) (2003-2009) trial, we derived 6323 participants. We examined racial/ethnic disparities of composite microvascular c

Prevalence and impact of diabetes on survival of patients with multiple myeloma in different racial groups.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is twice as common in Black individuals compared with in White individuals, and diabetes mellitus (DM) disproportionately affects Black patients. Although numerous studies have shown a correlation between DM and MM, this has not been studied in the context of race and in vivo mechanisms. We conducted a retrospective clinical study of 5383 patients with MM of which 15% had DM (White, 12% and Black, 25%). Multivariable Cox models showed reduced overall survival (OS) for patients with DM (hazard ratio, 1.27; 95% confidence interval, 1.11-1.47; P < .001). This appeared to be

Perceptions of Respect From Clinicians by Patients in Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups With Eye Disease.

IMPORTANCE: The perception of being treated with respect by clinicians may be a driver of disparities in individuals in racial and ethnic minoritie groups with eye diseases. Understanding these drivers may help identify potential interventions to reduce eye health disparities to prevent vision loss and blindness. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between racial and ethnic minority status and the perception of being treated with respect by clinicians. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cross-sectional analysis of a nationally representative cohort study using data from the National

Stereotypes About Political Attitudes and Coalitions Among U.S. Racial Groups: Implications for Strategic Political Decision-Making.

What are people's expectations of interracial political coalitions? This research reveals expectations of flexible interracial coalitions stemming from how policies and racial groups are viewed in terms of perceived status and foreignness. For policies seen as changing societal status (e.g., welfare), people expected Black-Hispanic political coalitions and viewed Asian Americans as more likely to align with Whites than with other minorities. For policies seen as impacting American identity (e.g., immigration), people expected Asian-Hispanic coalitions and that Black Americans would align with

Morphology, Incidence of Bridging, Dimensions of Sella Turcica, and Cephalometric Standards in Three Different Racial Groups.

This study aims to assess the morphological appearance, incidence of bridging, linear dimensions of sella turcica and establish cephalometric standards in Bosnian, Chinese and Nepalese subjects. This retrospective study examined digital standardized lateral cephalograms of 540 subjects, which consisted of 116 females and 64 males with an age range of 8 to 28 years. The sella morphology, bridging, and size were analyzed on the lateral cephalograms. Steiner's and Rickett's analyses were performed on 270 subjects. Sella turcica presented a normal morphology in most Bosnian (86.7%), and Nepalese (

Insights into the pan-microbiome: skin microbial communities of Chinese individuals differ from other racial groups.

Many studies have characterized microbiomes of western individuals. However, studies involving non-westerners are scarce. This study characterizes the skin microbiomes of Chinese individuals. Skin-associated genera, including Propionibacterium, Corynebacterium, Staphylococcus, and Enhydrobacter were prevalent. Extensive inter-individual microbiome variations were detected, with core genera present in all individuals constituting a minority of genera detected. Species-level analyses presented dominance of potential opportunistic pathogens in respective genera. Host properties including age, gen

A meta-analysis of the hepatitis C virus distribution in diverse racial/ethnic drug injector groups.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is mostly transmitted through blood-to-blood contact during injection drug use via shared contaminated syringes/needles or injection paraphernalia. This paper used meta-analytic methods to assess whether HCV prevalence and incidence varied across different racial/ethnic groups of injection drug users (IDUs) sampled internationally. The 29 prevalence and 11 incidence studies identified as part of the HCV Synthesis Project were categorized into subgroups based on similar racial/ethnic comparisons. The effect estimate used was the odds or risk ratio comparing HCV prevalenc

Risk factors associated with preterm deliveries among racial groups in a national sample of married mothers.

Seven sociodemographic and behavioral factors that may explain the increased risk of preterm deliveries among black women were examined using data from a national sample of 5823 married mothers who responded to the 1980 National Natality Survey (NNS) Questionnaire. There was a twofold increase in the rate of preterm deliveries among black women. Additionally, there was a significant decrease (by 1 week) in the mean gestational age in black mothers (p less than 0.0001) compared with white mothers. The two groups were similar with respect to smoking and age; however, there were significant diffe

Sun-Safety Understanding Among Canadian Elementary Students: A Survey-Based Cohort Study Across Racial/Ethnic Groups.

BACKGROUND: Early promotion of sun-protective behavior may play a pivotal role in skin cancer prevention. School-based interventions have shown effectiveness in increasing sun-safety knowledge, yet few studies assess children's baseline perceptions before formal education. OBJECTIVE: To assess elementary students' baseline sun-safety perceptions before an educational session. METHODS: Elementary students completed online surveys before sun-safety presentations (May 2023-April 2024). Race/ethnicity data were collected for subgroup analyses. RESULTS: Among 260 respondents (mean age 12; 51.2%

Ectopic Fat Depots and Coronary Artery Calcium in South Asians Compared With Other Racial/Ethnic Groups.

BACKGROUND: South Asians have a low body mass index and high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) relative to other racial/ethnic groups. Radiographically detected ectopic fat distribution is better associated with CVD than body mass index. We assessed whether differences in ectopic fat depots explained differences in the prevalence/severity of coronary artery calcium (CAC), a predictor of incident CVD events, among South Asians compared with other racial/ethnic groups. METHODS AND RESULTS: We examined the associations of radiographically detected visceral, intermuscular, intrahepatic,
