Bootstrapping random forest and CHAID for prediction of white spot disease among shrimp farmers.

Technology is playing an important role is healthcare particularly as it relates to disease prevention and detection. This is evident in the COVID-19 era as different technologies were deployed to test, detect and track patients and ensure COVID-19 protocol compliance. The White Spot Disease (WSD) is a very contagious disease caused by virus. It is widespread among shrimp farmers due to its mode of transmission and source. Considering the growing concern about the severity of the disease, this study provides a predictive model for diagnosis and detection of WSD among shrimp farmers using visua

Biological knowledge-slanted random forest approach for the classification of calcified aortic valve stenosis.

BACKGROUND: Calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS) is a fatal disease and there is no pharmacological treatment to prevent the progression of CAVS. This study aims to identify genes potentially implicated with CAVS in patients with congenital bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) in comparison with patients having normal valves, using a knowledge-slanted random forest (RF). RESULTS: This study implemented a knowledge-slanted random forest (RF) using information extracted from a protein-protein interactions network to rank genes in order to modify their selection probabil

Identification of EMCI in MR Brainstem Structure Using Fractal Measures and Random Forest Approach.

In this work, an attempt has been made to assess the texture variations of brainstem occurring in the Early Mild Cognitive Impairment (EMCI) condition. Fractal dimension is calculated for the segmented brainstem volume using Higuchi's and Detrending moving average (DMA) method. These measures are validated using Random forest classifier. DMA shows better performance when compared to Higuchi's method in categorising EMCI stage. Thus, the proposed approach using brainstem image's DMA fractal measures with random forest can be used in diagnosis of EMCI.

Random forest-based classsification and analysis of hemiplegia gait using low-cost depth cameras.

Hemiplegia is a form of paralysis that typically has the symptom of dysbasia. In current clinical rehabilitations, to measure the level of hemiplegia gaits, clinicians often conduct subject evaluations through observations, which is unreliable and inaccurate. The Microsoft Kinect sensor (MS Kinect) is a widely used, low-cost depth sensor that can be used to detect human behaviors in real time. The purpose of this study is to investigate the usage of the Kinect data for the classification and analysis of hemiplegia gait. We first acquire the gait data by using a MS Kinect and extract a set of g

A Random Forest classifier-based approach in the detection of abnormalities in the retina.

Classification of abnormalities from medical images using computer-based approaches is of growing interest in medical imaging. Timely detection of abnormalities due to diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration is required in order to prevent the prognosis of the disease. Computer-aided systems using machine learning are becoming interesting to ophthalmologists and researchers. We present here one such technique, the Random Forest classifier, to aid medical practitioners in accurate diagnosis of the diseases. A computer-aided diagnosis system is proposed for detecting retina abn

Risk prediction for chronic atrophic gastritis using a random forest model: A multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a significant precancerous condition of gastric cancer (GC). CAG often lacks typical symptoms in its early stages, and clinical diagnosis relies on gastroscopy and pathological examination, which are invasive and have limitations such as poor patient compliance. Therefore, developing a noninvasive, simple, and generalizable prediction tool is crucial for the early identification of CAG. AIM: To construct and validate a CAG risk prediction model to achieve noninvasive and accurate identification of high-risk patients. METHODS: This study include

Smart Geospatial Analytics for Maladaptation Hotspot Detection: Integrating Trajectory Classification, Random Forest, and SHAP.

Flooding is among the most frequent and damaging natural hazards globally, yet the population dynamics of repeatedly flooded areas remain poorly understood, particularly the phenomenon of maladaptation population growth in hazard-prone zones despite repeated flood exposure. This study integrated annual population estimates (LandScan, 2018-2024), multi-year flood records (2018, 2021, 2022), and topographic variables (TWI, slope, DEM, distance to streams) across 1159 spatial units in a flood-prone region of Thailand. We employed trajectory classification to identify late_growth pixels (populatio

NSCLC EGFR Mutation Prediction via Random Forest Model: A Clinical-CT-Radiomics Integration Approach.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Accurate determination of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status is essential for selecting patients eligible for tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, invasive genotyping is often limited by tissue accessibility and sample quality. This study presents a non-invasive machine learning model combining clinical data, CT morphological features, and radiomic descriptors to predict EGFR mutation status. A retrospective cohort of 138 patients with confirmed EGFR status and pre-treatme

A random forest model using flow cytometry data identifies pulmonary infection after thoracic injury.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic injury can cause impairment of lung function leading to respiratory complications such as pneumonia (PNA). There is increasing evidence that central memory T cells of the adaptive immune system play a key role in pulmonary immunity. We sought to explore whether assessment of cell phenotypes using flow cytometry (FCM) could be used to identify pulmonary infection after thoracic trauma. METHODS: We prospectively studied trauma patients with thoracic injuries who survived >48 hours at a Level 1 trauma center from 2014 to 2020. Clinical and FCM data from serum samples collect

Disentangling etiologies of CNS infections in Singapore using multiple correspondence analysis and random forest.

Central nervous system (CNS) infections cause substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide, with mounting concern about new and emerging neurologic infections. Stratifying etiologies based on initial clinical and laboratory data would facilitate etiology-based treatment rather than relying on empirical treatment. Here, we report the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of patients with CNS infections from a prospective surveillance study that took place between 2013 and 2016 in Singapore. Using multiple correspondence analysis and random forest, we analyzed the link between clinical presentatio

Prediction of age using shotgun metagenomic sequencing and random forest algorithm based on cadaveric colon.

Age estimation is important for the identification of unknown cadavers in forensic practice. Previous studies have shown that gut microbiota is associated with host age, but most evidence has been derived from fecal samples of living individuals. In this study, shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed on mid-colon tissue samples from 76 cadavers to explore age-associated taxonomic and predicted functional patterns in cadaveric colon microbiota and to evaluate their potential value for forensic age estimation. After quality control and taxonomic annotation, 3980 microbial species were ident

Design Optimization of Auxetic Composite Metamaterials Using Finite Element Simulations and Random Forest AI Models.

The development of biomaterials with tunable mechanical properties is important for addressing stiffness mismatch between implants and bone, although the present study focuses on computational material design rather than implant-level performance. In this work, a novel composite design is proposed in which a 3D re-entrant honeycomb auxetic fiber is incorporated within a solid matrix. A series of 670 finite element models was analyzed by systematically manipulating the elastic modulus ratio of fiber to matrix (Ef/Em, where Ef is the elastic modulus of the fiber and Em is the elastic modulus of

[A study of confounding effect control based on residual strategy with multivariate random forest analysis].

By using generalized estimating equation, random intercept model, random coefficients model, and generalized linear model respectively, this study obtained residuals for predictors and outcomes as new predictors and outcomes for multivariate random forest (MRF) analysis. Simulation experiments were conducted to compare the performance of these methods in confounding adjustment under scenarios with varying outcome correlations, causal effect magnitudes, numbers of confounding factors, and sample sizes. United Kingdom Biobank data were used for further validation. Simulation results showed that
