The probable rôle of endogenous histamine in the increase of plasma fibrinogen in rats submitted to tissue injury (laparotomy) was studied. In laparotomized rats with 10 mg kg-1 day-1 of diphenhydramine (a H1-histamine receptor blocker) plasma fibrinogen decreased significantly as compared to the group of rats laparotomized only (P less than 0.02), reaching values similar to those observed in rats laparotomized with removal of the adrenal medulla or laparotomized with severing of splanchnic nerves. SARS-CoV-2 exploits multiple cellular entry routes. Beyond ACE2-mediated entry, we propose that the spike protein binds fibrinogen not only to facilitate immune evasion but also to position the receptor-binding domain for integrin-mediated uptake. This molecular bridge may enhance viral RNA delivery to endothelial cells. Targeting the spike protein-fibrinogen interface could open new therapeutic avenues for acute and post-COVID vascular disease.

Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder in which the platelets have anomalies of fibrinogen receptors causing bleeding tendencies. The disease usually presents with mucosal bleeding, petechial haemorrhages or gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Only sporadic cases of intussusception or duodenal haematoma have been reported with GT. We present a case of 5-year-old girl admitted with non-bilious vomiting, watery diarrhoea and abdominal pain. She is a known patient of Glanzmann's thrombasthenia.

Two platelet aggregation inhibitors, ussuristatin 1 (US-1) and 2 (US-2), were newly isolated from the venom of Chinese viper (Agkistrodon ussuriensis) by SP-Toyopearl 650M column chromatography and reverse-phase HPLC.
