Investigating the Association of Assisted Reproduction Techniques and Adverse Perinatal Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Infertility affects about 80 million individuals worldwide and 10-15% of couples at reproductive age will seek medical assistance. There is increasing evidence that pregnancies after Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART) are associated with pre-term birth, low birthweight, congenital defects, and increased mortality rates. The aim of this review is to assess all the published literature and provide an updated review on the effect of assisted conception and perinatal and neonatal outcomes. METHODS: Comprehensive research on Pubmed/Medline, Scopus, and Google scholar electronic dat

Ovarian abscess as a complication of assisted reproduction techniques: a case report.

BACKGROUND: AMP makes true great strides these last decades. Logically some complications were noticed even due to ovarian puncture such as hemorrhage, perforation or infection. The aim of this report is to try, through a review of literature, to draw the attention of physicians to a rare entity, ovarian abscess after follicle aspiration for in-vitro fertilization, and to means of prevention. CASE REPORT: We report a 38-year-old woman who was plainting from lower abdominal pain located in the left iliac fossa one month after failed IVF trial. The pain was associated with fever and vomiting. T

[To FIV or not to FIV: Will gestational surrogacy be an indication for assisted reproductive techniques?].

Gestational surrogacy covers three different and often mixed up situations. In the first case (that of full surrogacy), the surrogate mother carries and has the baby anonymously. The child has been conceived by artificial insemination with her own oocyte and the help of the financing father, who has legally recognised the child before birth. This constitutes surrogacy motherhood practice, which was condemned by a judgment of the French Court of Cassation, in 1991. In the second case (gestational surrogacy), the mother only carries an embryo conceived in vitro by the biological parents to whom

Possibilities and limitations of techniques of assisted reproduction for the treatment of male infertility.

Since relatively few spermatozoa are needed for oocyte fertilization during gamete intra-Fallopian transfer (GIFT) or in-vitro fertilization (IVF), these methods have been applied in couples with infertility due to male causes. Forty-six couples with male factor infertility were enrolled in this study and results were compared with those attained in 48 couples treated with the same techniques for other than male causes. Overall, GIFT resulted in 26% ongoing pregnancies. GIFT seems to be particularly successful when the sperm concentration is 20 x 10(6)/ml or more, but sperm motility and/or mor

[Endometrial receptivity in assisted reproductive techniques: An aspect to investigate in embryo implantation failure].

Infertility affects between 8 and 12% of reproductive-age couples worldwide. Despite improvements in assisted reproductive techniques (ART), live birth rates are still limited. In clinical practice, imaging and microscopy are currently widely used, but their diagnostic effectiveness remains limited. In research, the emergence of innovative techniques named OMICS would improve the identification of the implantation window, while progressing in the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in embryo implantation failures. To date, transcriptomic analysis seems to be the most pr

Towards Better Assisted Reproductive Techniques Outcomes: Using Platelet-Rich Plasma to Improve Sperm Motility.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on sperm motility in men with asthenozoospermia and assess its potential use in intrauterine insemination (IUI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective randomized controlled pilot study was conducted with 40 men diagnosed with asthenozoospermia. Semen samples were divided into two equal parts: one treated with autologous, non-activated PRP and the other serving as control. Sperm motility was assessed at 1, 3, 6, and 24 h using a Makler chamber. A two-step centrifugation method was used for PRP preparation, and all sa

Psychosocial aspects of infertility and the impact of assisted reproductive techniques - a comprehensive review.

This review examines the impact of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) on prospective parents and born children, as well as their parental relationships, considering their emotional and social context. Specific situations are analyzed, such as gynecological pathologies and heterologous treatments, such as the ROPA (Reception of Oocytes from Partner) method, and the use of gestational surrogacy, which have particular psychosocial impacts. Infertility affects approximately one-third of the global population, leading many to seek ART, which have grown in popularity over the decades. In additio

The influence of expanded carrier screening in assisted reproductive techniques: changed the 'game'- review.

Expanded carrier screening constitutes a new scientific tool able to detect conditions that can be treated immediately after birth or during pregnancy. Its implementation could affect both the prenatal period and assisted reproductive techniques. It is strongly beneficial as it provides much useful information to future parents concerning the medical status of their offspring. In addition, the definition of 'serious/severe', regulating preimplantation diagnosis, donor insemination, and even the definitions of prerequisites for abortion diseases, should be reformed including all clinically seve

Assisted reproductive techniques and the risk of anorectal malformations: a German case-control study.

BACKGROUND: The use of assisted reproductive techniques (ART) for treatment of infertility is increasing rapidly worldwide. However, various health effects have been reported including a higher risk of congenital malformations. Therefore, we assessed the risk of anorectal malformations (ARM) after in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). METHODS: Data of the German Network for Congenital Uro-REctal malformations (CURE-Net) were compared to nationwide data of the German IVF register and the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS). Odds ratios (95% confidence inte

Associations between adherence to a Mediterranean diet and assisted reproductive techniques outcomes: a systematic review.

Globally, one out of six people of childbearing age experience infertility. Given the high demand for assisted reproductive techniques (ARTs), this systematic review evaluated associations between adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) and ART outcomes, as dietary habits can play a significant role. A systematic review was conducted by searching five databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) for studies published from 1 January 2010, to 1 January 2024, in English or Spanish. Inclusion criteria targeted patients aged 18-55 and examined intermediate and/or
