Volatile compounds evolved from germinating seeds of slash pine, bean, cabbage, corn, cucumber, and pea were evaluated for their ability to support growth of microorganisms in liquid mineral salts media lacking a carbon source. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Rosacea has been linked to inflammatory bowel disease and small bowel bacterial overgrowth. We aimed to investigate the fecal microbial profiling and the potential gene functions between rosacea and non-rosacea subjects.
METHODS: A case-control study. Fecal microbiome and predicted genetic function inferred from high-throughput 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing were analyzed between rosacea (n = 11) and age-, gender- and body mass index-matched non-rosacea subjects (n=110). The correlation between altered microbiome as well as lifestyle and diet were also investigated.

In a study of a lake having a higher concentration of salts than the Dead Sea, all of the heterotrophic bacteria isolated were aerobes; no strictly anaerobic strains were found. Ninety percent of the strains were euryhalines and ten percent were strict halophiles. The extreme halophiles belonged to the species Halobacterium trapanicum and Halococcus morrhuae.

This paper gives an abbreviated account of part of a research programme which followed the Aberdeen typhoid outbreak in 1964. Chloramphenicol, the main antibiotic used in treatment, was shown to have a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of between 5 and 2-5 mug./ml. for the S. typhi phage type 34 of the outbreak. BACKGROUND: Emphysematous Gastritis is a rare condition, characterized by the presence of gas within the gastric wall. It is associated with a high mortality rate, but early diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce mortality and improve patient outcomes.
METHODOLOGY: For this systematic review, we searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase from inception until October 2024 to find relevant case reports or case series on emphysematous gastritis.
RESULTS: A 116 case report and case series revealed that patient ages ranged from 4 months to 96 years (mean age: 55), male (55 %).
