Nucleus of the solitary tract regulation of cue-induced appetitive behaviors via midbrain dopamine neurons.

Internal states including stress and satiety, affect cue-induced feeding behaviors, yet the underlying neural mechanisms remain poorly understood. The nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS), a key hindbrain hub that integrates interoceptive and viscerosensory signals and projects to reward processing nuclei, is anatomically well-positioned to modulate cue-induced feeding behaviors in response to internal state changes. Using behavioral paradigms combined with chemogenetics and fibre photometry, this study investigated the hypothesis that NTS mediates the effects of stress and satiety on cue-induc

Effects of omega fatty acids on the short-term postprandial satiety related peptides in rats.

We aimed to assess the effects of omega fatty acids on time depending on responses of satiety hormones. Sixty adult rats were randomly divided into 4 groups; linoleic acid (LA), α-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) groups. For each fatty acid, the dose of 400 mg/kg was applied by oral gavage. Blood samples were taken after the 15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes. Ghrelin, cholecystokinin (CCK), glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), peptide YY (PYY), leptin and insulin hormones were analyzed by ELISA. We observed the significant increases (p<0.05) of the levels o

CCK response in bulimia nervosa and following remission.

The core defining features of bulimia nervosa (BN) are repeated binge eating episodes and inappropriate compensatory (e.g., purging) behavior. Previous studies suggest an abnormal post-prandial response in the satiety-signaling peptide cholecystokinin (CCK) in persons with BN. It is unknown whether this altered response persists following remission or if it may be a potential target for the development of clinical treatment strategies. To examine the nature of this altered response, this study assessed whether CCK normalizes following remission from BN (RBN). This study prospectively evaluated

Link between intestinal CD36 ligand binding and satiety induced by a high protein diet in mice.

CD36 is a ubiquitous membrane glycoprotein that binds long-chain fatty acids. The presence of a functional CD36 is required for the induction of satiety by a lipid load and its role as a lipid receptor driving cellular signal has recently been demonstrated. Our project aimed to further explore the role of intestinal CD36 in the regulation of food intake. Duodenal infusions of vehicle or sulfo-N-succinimidyl-oleate (SSO) was performed prior to acute infusions of saline or Intralipid (IL) in mice. Infusion of minute quantities of IL induced a decrease in food intake (FI) compared to saline. Infu

Hunger does not motivate reward in women remitted from anorexia nervosa.

BACKGROUND: Hunger enhances sensitivity to reward, yet individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) are not motivated to eat when starved. This study investigated brain response to rewards during hunger and satiated states to examine whether diminished response to reward could underlie food restriction in AN. METHODS: Using a delay discounting monetary decision task known to discriminate brain regions contributing to processing of immediate rewards and cognitive control important for decision making regarding future rewards, we compared 23 women remitted from AN (RAN group; to reduce the confoundin

High-fat diet-induced vagal afferent dysfunction via upregulation of 2-pore domain potassium TRESK channel.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Research shows that rats and humans on a high-fat diet (HFD) are less sensitive to satiety signals known to act via vagal afferent pathways. We hypothesize that HFD causes an upregulation of 2-pore domain potassium channels, resulting in hyperpolarization of nodose ganglia (NG) and decreased vagal response to satiety signals, which contribute to hyperphagia. We show that a 2-week HFD caused an upregulation of 2-pore domain TWIK-related spinal cord K+ (TRESK) and TWIK-related acid-sensitive K+ 1 (TASK1) channels by 330% ± 50% and 60% ± 20%, respectively, in NG. Free Fatty Acid-Induced Peptide YY Expression Is Dependent on TG Synthesis Rate and Xbp1 Splicing.

Gut-derived satiety hormones provide negative feedback to suppress food intake and maintain metabolic function in peripheral tissues. Despite the wealth of knowledge of the systemic effects of these hormones, very little is known concerning the mechanisms by which nutrients, such as dietary fats, can promote the expression of genes involved in L-cell hormone production. We have tested the role of various dietary fats and found that after hydrolysis into free fatty acids (FFA's), there is a differential response in the extent to which they induce PYY gene and protein production. The effect of F

The Longitudinal Influence of Parent-Grandparent Coparenting Relationships on Preschoolers' Eating Behaviors in Chinese Urban Families: The Mediating Roles of Caregivers' Feeding Behaviors.

BACKGROUND: The early development of children's eating behaviors is a complex process shaped by dynamic interactions within the family system. While extensive research has focused on parental feeding practices as a primary predictor of children's eating behaviors, the role of intergenerational coparenting dynamics (especially with involved grandparents) is less studied. This study aimed to examines how primary caregivers' feeding behaviors mediate the relationship between parent-grandparent coparenting dynamics and children's eating behaviors. METHODS: We conducted a longitudinal study among

Pancreatic amylin as a centrally acting satiating hormone.

This review summarizes the present knowledge concerning the anorectic action of the pancreatic hormone amylin. It focuses mainly on the role of amylin as a short term satiating peptide. Since there is some evidence however that basal amylin levels might play a role in the long term control of food intake and/or body weight, this aspect will be discussed briefly towards the end of this review. Concerning amylin as a satiating hormone, it is well established that amylin is released during meals, and that exogenous amylin leads to a dose-related reduction in meal size. Amylin has a rapid onset an

Gastric distension and short-term satiety in the rhesus monkey.

Fasted rhesus monkeys given access to a solution of glucose (0.5 kcal/ml) would, within 15 min, consume it to satiety. If, after such a 15-min bout of consumption, the contents of the stomach were removed via an indwelling cannula, the monkeys would again consume glucose in a following 15-min bout. With experiments paired such that gastric contents were either removed or left in place, the total glucose consumption over four successive bouts when the stomach was emptied between bouts was twice that when the contents were undisturbed. Despite this large difference in consumption, the amount of

Differences between the anorexic actions of amphetamine and fenfluramine--possible effects on hunger and satiety.

The inhition of feeding in rats brought about by amphetamine and fenfluramine was continuously monitored for periods of up to 24 h using a pellet detecting eatometer. For rats tested under conditions of food deprivation the two drugs gave rise to distinctive anorexic profiles: amphetamine delayed the onset of eating whereas fenfluramine allowed eating to commence normally but brought about an early termination of the initial bout of feeding. When the drugs were administrated to rats with free access to food, analysis of the meal pattern showed that amphetamine gave rise to a small increase in

Food intake, hunger, and satiety after preloads in women with eating disorders.

Food intake, food selection, macronutrient intake, sensory-specific satiety, and ratings of hunger and satiety were measured after high- and low-energy salad preloads (2414 kJ, or 172 kJ) or no preload to determine whether patients with eating disorders compensate appropriately for different energy intakes. Subjects were female patients with a DSM-III-R diagnosis of anorexia nervosa with bulimic features or bulimia nervosa, or non patient, normal-weight, nondieters (n = 9/group). At a self-selected lunch 30 min after the preloads, all of the groups reduced intake after the high-energy preload,

Estrogen and gut satiety hormones in vagus-hindbrain axis.

Estrogens modulate different physiological functions, including reproduction, inflammation, bone formation, energy expenditure, and food intake. In this review, we highlight the effect of estrogens on food intake regulation and the latest literature on intracellular estrogen signaling. In addition, gut satiety hormones, such as cholecystokinin, glucagon-like peptide 1 and leptin are essential to regulate ingestive behaviors in the postprandial period. These peripheral signals are sensed by vagal afferent terminals in the gut wall and transmitted to the hindbrain axis. Here we 1. review the rol

Differential responses of circulating amylin to high-fat vs. high-carbohydrate meal in healthy men.

OBJECTIVE: The success of an amylin analogue in weight loss trials has generated interest in amylin as a physiological satiety signal. Little is known about how plasma amylin responds to macronutrients. This study examined the effects of a high-carbohydrate meal (CHO), a high-fat meal (FAT) or a continued fast (FAST) on amylin concentrations and correlations among other satiety hormones and measures of appetite. DESIGN/PATIENTS: In a randomized, crossover design, 10 healthy males consumed a meal high in carbohydrate or fat or continued fasted. MEASUREMENTS: Blood samples and subjective hunge

Relevance of animal models to human eating disorders and obesity.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: This review addresses the role animal models play in contributing to our knowledge about the eating disorders anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) and obesity. OBJECTIVES: Explore the usefulness of animal models in complex biobehavioral familial conditions, such as AN, BN, and obesity, that involve interactions among genetic, physiologic, psychological, and cultural factors. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The most promising animal model to mimic AN is the activity-based anorexia rodent model leading to pathological weight loss. The paradigm incorporates reward e

Bang-bang control of feeding: role of hypothalamic and satiety signals.

Rats, people, and many other omnivores eat in meals rather than continuously. We show by experimental test that eating in meals is regulated by a simple bang-bang control system, an idea foreshadowed by Le Magnen and many others, shown by us to account for a wide range of behavioral data, but never explicitly tested or tied to neurophysiological facts. The hypothesis is simply that the tendency to eat rises with time at a rate determined by satiety signals. When these signals fall below a set point, eating begins, in on-off fashion. The delayed sequelae of eating increment the satiety signals,
