The frequency profile of tuberculin skin testing (TST) among students in nursing school was studied. Students received a TST upon matriculation. The TST was done by the method of Mantoux, in which 0.1 ml of PPDs was administered intradermally, and the diameters of skin rash and induration were read by the medical doctor at 48 hours. Workplace violence occurs in many different contexts, including academic settings. However, the types of violence that make headlines are less common than the everyday behaviors that, left unchecked, may lead to extreme situations. This article describes how a school of nursing developed a program of workplace violence prevention, intervention, and response. Descriptions of the program, definitions, and workplace violence resources are included.

INTRODUCTION: Guided by Florence Nightingale, massage nurse training instruction methods were duplicated in the U.S. nurse training curricula. In the 1880s to 1900s massage training and instruction was delivered by physicians, nurses, or masseurs for many disease conditions. In the 1930s to 1940s, influential nurse authors and educators began to recommend specialization in physiotherapy for nurses. The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and validity of an acanthosis nigricans (AN) screening tool for use in elementary school-age children of different ethnic groups. Cross-sectional data were collected via observation of 288, 5- to 12-year-old school-age children. Three nurse clinicians used a 0-4 grade AN screening tool to rate each child's level of AN independently. AN was consistently and appropriately identified in elementary school-age children from different ethnic groups. All clinicians were within one grade 98% of the time. In response to evolving school nurse roles, the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) evaluated and updated its Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice™ using a three-phase process that included surveys, qualitative feedback, and interest-holder engagement.
