Climacteric symptoms, age, and sense of coherence are associated with sexual function scores in women after menopause.

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal sexual function presupposes the integration of hormonal, neural, and vascular interactions and is subject to optimal crosstalk among psychological, interpersonal, cultural, and environmental factors. Sense of coherence (SOC) reflects a person's ability to cope with stressors and may influence the occurrence of menopausal symptoms and sexual dysfunction. AIM: To investigate the association of severity of climacteric symptoms, cardiometabolic risk factors, and SOC with sexual function in postmenopausal women. METHODS: Overall 281 sexually active postmenopausal women

Sense of Coherence in the Trauma-Fibromyalgia Relationship: Mediation and Moderation Findings from a 2099-Participant Cohort.

BACKGROUND: The biopsychosocial model positions fibromyalgia (FM) as the result of altered pain modulation shaped by trauma, psychological vulnerability, and structural stressors. The Sense of Coherence (SOC) may be a key resilience factor explaining differences in symptom severity after similar hardships. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether SOC mediates and/or moderates associations between trauma-related adversity and symptom burden in FM and whether comorbidities, medication use, healthcare factors, or treatment engagement modify these relationships. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 20

Relationship between sense of coherence and health-related behaviours in adolescents and young adults: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The sense of coherence is developed through the learning process and contributes to the positioning of individuals in the health-disease continuum, facilitating successful and adaptive personal outcomes. Health-related behaviours represent a health determinant of utmost importance for public health and the development of adolescent and youth health promotion policies, as they are related to the main risk factors and problems of morbidity and mortality in our society. Previous studies have analysed the relationship between sense of coherence and only some individual health outcomes

Gender differences in sense of coherence, perceived social support, and negative emotions among drug-abstinent israeli inmates.

This study examines gender differences in the sense of coherence, perceived social support, and negative emotions among drug-abstinent Israeli inmates. One hundred nineteen inmates have participated in this study (65 men and 54 women). The findings indicate that among female inmates, abstinence of more than a year is related to a decrease in sense of coherence and to an increase in their perceived friend support. In contrast, among male inmates, abstinence of more than a year is related to an increase in sense of coherence and no change at all in their perceived friend support. In addition, ho

Sense of coherence as a mediator between hostility and health: seven-year prospective study on female employees.

OBJECTIVE: We proposed and tested a model in which low sense of coherence (SOC) was hypothesized to underlie the association between hostility and health problems. METHODS: Structural equation modeling was based on cross-lagged 7-year follow-up data, relating to five measurement points in 433 female municipal employees. RESULTS: The mediated model fitted well with the data. After adjustment for baseline characteristics, hostility was associated with increased risk of health problems, as indicated by records of sickness absences and poor self-rated health. Incorporating SOC into the model att

Multi-point spectroscopic gas sensing based on coherent FMCW interferometry.

We present an innovative spectroscopic method based on coherent optical frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) interferometry that can realize multi-point gas detection with high spatial resolution, high sensitivity, and high selectivity. This method takes full advantage of the intrinsic capability of spatial localization of the coherent FMCW, meanwhile efficiently decodes the spectral information from the reflected optical signals. Gas sensors are deployed by adopting bus topology, i.e., distributed along a single backbone fiber in the measurement arm of the FMCW interferometer. For valid

Low coherence interferometer for sensing retardance change during neural activity.

A variety of optical measurements, including retardance/birefringence change, have revealed transient optical and structural changes associated with action potential propagation. Those changes can be understood better by developing new techniques and improving the current approaches. To detect transient retardance changes in a stimulated nerve, we propose a differential phase technique utilizing two orthogonal polarization channels of a polarization-maintaining fiber based interferometer. The superior sensitivity of the system (10.4 pm) is promising to achieve a non-contact optical measurement

Women with lipoedema: a national survey on their health, health-related quality of life, and sense of coherence.

BACKGROUND: Lipoedema is a chronic disease in adipose tissue that almost exclusively affects women during periods of hormonal alterations. Its main symptoms include an abnormal accumulation of subcutaneous fat in the buttock, hips, and legs, which is associated with pain, swelling, and easy bruising. Herein, a grading in three stages is used to determine disease progression. Problematically, lipoedema manifestations are often confused with lifestyle-induced obesity, which is why the various health problems among affected women often remain unrecognized. Overall, research on lipoedema is scarce

Psychological phenotypes of sense of coherence: How illness perception mediates distress differently across patient subgroups with hematologic malignancies.

BACKGROUND: Sense of coherence (SOC) plays a critical role in how patients with hematologic malignancies cope with disease-related stress. However, the heterogeneity of SOC and its mechanisms influencing anxiety and depression remain unclear. This study aimed to identify latent SOC profiles and to examine the mediating role of illness perception in the SOC-anxiety and depression relationship. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 486 inpatients with hematologic malignancies. SOC, illness perception, and symptoms of anxiety and depression were assessed using the SOC-13, the BIPQ
