Bidirectional relationships between chronotype and sleep hygiene in children with and without parental history of alcohol use disorder.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Children with evening chronotype may be at risk for insufficient sleep because their chronotype makes it difficult to sustain healthy sleep habits. We evaluated bidirectional relationships between chronotype and sleep hygiene. METHODS: Two hundred forty-six children (n = 246 at T1, n = 200 at T2, n = 147 at T3), with a mean age of 9.9 (SD=1.4) at T1, participated in a longitudinal study on sleep and substance use. Participants either had a parental history of alcohol use disorder or were matched controls. The Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale measured sleep hygiene. Chronotype

Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia Versus Sleep Hygiene Education for Prevention of Perinatal Depression: Protocol for a Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia during pregnancy is a modifiable risk factor for depression. Research in nonpregnant populations and preliminary findings in a pregnant population suggest that targeting insomnia with digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) may prevent depression. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of digital CBT-I for the prevention of depression through 12 months post partum compared to that of a credible, clinically relevant comparator intervention, sleep hygiene education (SHE). This project will also provide valuable information about how and for wh

Digital treatment for insomnia in adolescents: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial comparing digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia to sleep hygiene.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia is highly prevalent among adolescents. It is associated with various mental and physical disorders and impairments in daytime functioning. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is well supported by evidence and the guideline recommended treatment. Yet only few adolescents receive access due to limited health care resources. Digital delivery of CBT-I may tackle this care gap and has shown promising results in the adult population. However, evidence in the adolescent population is still preliminary. The aim of this randomized controlled trial is to establish whet

Evening Light-Emitting Diode Screen Exposure, Melanopsin-Mediated Circadian Disruption, and Optical Filtration for Sleep Hygiene: A Narrative Review in the Indian Context.

Sleep complaints are common in India, where recent meta-analytic estimates place the prevalence of insomnia among the highest reported anywhere. Over the same period, digital screen use has risen steeply, with very high daily smartphone use. Light-emitting diode (LED) screens are rich in short-wavelength ("blue") light. That part of the spectrum drives the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) that set the circadian clock. Evening screen use can therefore blunt melatonin and push circadian timing later. Screen use is not, however, the same as the melanopic light dose act

Shorter Telomere Length Is Associated With Older Age, Poor Sleep Hygiene, and Orthopedic Injury, but Not Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, in a Cohort of Canadian Children.

BACKGROUND: Predicting recovery following pediatric mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) remains challenging. The identification of objective biomarkers for prognostic purposes could improve clinical outcomes. Telomere length (TL) has previously been used as a prognostic marker of cellular health in the context of mTBI and other neurobiological conditions. While psychosocial and environmental factors are associated with recovery outcomes following pediatric mTBI, the relationship between these factors and TL has not been investigated. This study sought to examine the relationships between TL and

Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, and Sleep Hygiene (HEPAS) as the Winning Triad for Sustaining Physical and Mental Health in Patients at Risk for or with Neuropsychiatric Disorders: Considerations for Clinical Practice.

Neuropsychiatric disorders stem from gene-environment interaction and their development can be, at least in some cases, prevented by the adoption of healthy and protective lifestyles. Once full blown, neuropsychiatric disorders are prevalent conditions that patients live with a great burden of disability. Indeed, the determinants that increase the affliction of neuropsychiatric disorders are various, with unhealthy lifestyles providing a significant contribution in the interplay between genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors that ultimately represent the pathophysiological basis of the
