Barriers and facilitators to implementing social prescribing in child and adolescent mental health services: a qualitative analysis using the consolidated framework for implementation research.

INTRODUCTION: Interventions are urgently needed for young people waiting for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in England. Long waits can worsen mental health, increase distress for young people and families, and place additional pressure on already stretched services. Social prescribing, a referral system for connecting individuals with resources in the community via one-to-one support from a link worker, has not been routinely implemented or evaluated for young people on CAMHS waitlists. It remains unclear whether, and under what conditions, social prescribing can be implem

Socially prescribed perfectionism and graduate student burnout: Dual pathways via impostor feelings and generative AI anxiety, and via academic procrastination.

Graduate students increasingly navigate sustained performance pressure alongside rapidly evolving norms around generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). Drawing on stress and resource perspectives, this study examined whether socially prescribed perfectionism relates to academic burnout through two hypothesized pathways: an identity-threat route involving impostor feelings and GenAI anxiety, and a maladaptive coping route involving academic procrastination, while testing GenAI use frequency as a moderator. An anonymous cross-sectional survey of Chinese graduate students yielded N=812 valid c

The Role of Social Biases, Race, and Condom Use in Willingness to Prescribe HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis to MSM: An Experimental, Vignette-Based Study.

INTRODUCTION: Daily antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a safe and effective method of preventing HIV. Clinicians' assumptions, biases, and judgments may impede access to PrEP. Specifically, concern that patients will engage in more condomless sex ("risk compensation") has been cited by clinicians as a reason for not prescribing PrEP. METHODS: In this experimental study among medical students, we systematically varied race (White or Black) and condom-use behaviors (continued-use, planned-discontinuation, or continued-nonuse) of a fictional patient (all men with multiple male sex

Acceptability of a social prescribing program (REDE D+) for self-care and health literacy among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus-a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Social prescribing (SP) interventions have been increasingly developed to improve wellbeing, promote healthier behaviors, and support the management of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aims to explore the REDE D+ program, a complex SP intervention designed to promote self-care and health literacy among people with T2DM from the perspective of users in the primary health care context. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted following the implementation of a non-randomized pilot cohort study (REDE D+ program), carried out in primary health care

Could social prescribing contribute to type 2 diabetes prevention in people at high risk? Protocol for a realist, multilevel, mixed methods review and evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: Social prescribing is an innovation being widely adopted within the UK National Health Service policy as a way of improving the management of people with long-term conditions, such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). It generally involves linking patients in primary care with non-medical community-based interventions. Despite widespread national support, evidence for the effectiveness of social prescribing is both insufficient and contested. In this study, we will investigate whether social prescribing can contribute to T2D prevention and, if so, when, how and in what circumstances it migh

Reimagining Dementia Care: A Complex Intervention Systematic Review on Optimising Social Prescribing (SP) for Carers of People Living With Dementia (PLWD) in the United Kingdom.

INTRODUCTION: Carers of people living with dementia (PLWD) face a range of complex needs, including medical, emotional, social and practical challenges, often exacerbated by social isolation and barriers to accessing support. Social prescribing (SP) addresses these needs by increasing access to non-clinical support and services. However, existing research lacks detailed descriptions of SP interventions for carers of PLWD, with limited understanding of the needs they target, the reasons for participation, their effectiveness and their potential to improve outcomes for carers of PLWD. METHODS:

The impact of shelter-in-place during the COVID-19 pandemic on social support for mental health recovery: A prescribing-oriented qualitative study of patient perspectives.

The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges for social connectivity and mental health, especially during mandated shelter-in-place periods. For patients engaged in mental health treatment, the social impact of their shelter-in-place experience remains an area of active investigation. This is particularly relevant in the context of social prescribing, a growing area of clinical intervention where healthcare providers actively refer patients to local social resources or activities to enhance mental health and wellbeing. Here, we investigated patient perspectives on their social suppor

Social prescribing as relational early intervention to improve children and young people's mental well-being: an interpretive descriptive qualitative study in the North of England.

OBJECTIVE: Mental health disorders among children and young people are a substantial global public health concern. Barriers to accessing specialist mental health services, particularly long waiting times, can exacerbate poor mental health. Recently, there has been an increase in the adoption of social prescribing to support children and young people to address this concern; however, the evidence of its impact on mental health remains limited. The key objective of this study was to explore how children, young people and their families experience the impact of a new social prescribing service in

An adapted enhanced social prescribing intervention vs. usual care in the treatment of loneliness in cancer survivors: Study protocol for a feasibility pilot randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Loneliness has increased substantially in the past decade and adversely affects the health and wellbeing of cancer survivors. Cancer diagnosis and treatment can lead to profound negative changes in health status and social support. In addition to prevention and detection of recurrence and new cancers, survivorship care also requires attention to managing financial, psychological, and physical wellbeing after cancer treatment. Multiple efficacious interventions exist for loneliness, including Social Prescribing, a UK-based model that supports individuals in improving their social

Comparing cognitive behavioral therapy and social prescribing in patients with loneliness on long-term opioid therapy to reduce opioid misuse: protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Patients with chronic pain on opioids frequently experience loneliness, which is associated with poorer health outcomes and higher risk for opioid misuse and opioid use disorder. Given that almost half of opioids are prescribed in primary care, a critical need exists for the development and testing of interventions to reduce loneliness in primary care patients at risk for opioid misuse. Cognitive behavioral therapy and social prescribing have been shown to be efficacious in reducing loneliness and improving outcomes in other populations but have not been tested in patients at risk

Effectiveness of green health prescribing and nature-based interventions in primary care and community settings for older adults: a systematic review of health, wellbeing and social outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Green Health Prescribing involves health and care professionals prescribing structured, nature-based interventions, such as gardening, walking in green spaces, or cultural activities outdoors. With population ageing and increasing pressure on healthcare systems, Green Health Prescribing has been proposed as a potentially cost-effective approach to support healthy ageing in older adults with long-term conditions. This review summarises evidence on the effectiveness of Green Health Prescribing and related nature-based interventions for older adults. METHODS: A systematic review was

Social prescribing for people living with dementia (PLWD) and their carers: what works, for whom, under what circumstances and why - protocol for a complex intervention systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Dementia is a complex medical condition that poses significant challenges to healthcare systems and support services. People living with dementia (PLWD) and their carers experience complex needs often exacerbated by social isolation and challenges in accessing support. Social prescribing (SP) seeks to enable PLWD and their carers to access community and voluntary sector resources to support them address such needs. Existing research, however, does not describe what SP interventions are currently in place in dementia care. Little is known about the needs these interventions are de

Nationwide, County-Level Analysis of the Patterns, Trends, and System-Level Predictors of Opioid Prescribing in Surgery in the US: Social Determinants and Access to Mental Health Services Matter.

BACKGROUND: The diversion of unused opioid prescription pills to the community at large contributes to the opioid epidemic in the US. In this county-level population-based study, we aimed to examine the US surgeons' opioid prescription patterns, trends, and system-level predictors in the peak years of the opioid epidemic. STUDY DESIGN: Using the Medicare Part D database (2013 to 2017), the mean number of opioid prescriptions per beneficiary (OPBs) was determined for each US county. Opioid-prescribing patterns were compared across counties. Multivariable linear regression was performed to dete

Effectiveness of a nature-based social prescribing intervention on loneliness and health-related quality of life among vulnerable urban adults (RECETAS-BCN): an observer-blinded randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Loneliness is a major public health problem disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations and has well-recognised health consequences. The RECETAS-BCN study tests the effectiveness of 'Friends in Nature (FiN)', a facilitator-led group and nature-based social prescribing (NBSP) intervention, built on existing evidence, to reduce loneliness and improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among adults. METHODS: In this observer-blinded, parallel randomised controlled trial, we recruited lonely adults (18+), from 12 neighbourhoods with low socioeconomic levels in the Barcelon

Nudge interventions to reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescribing in primary care: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVES: Antibiotic prescribing in primary care contributes significantly to antibiotic overuse. Nudge interventions alter the decision-making environment to achieve behaviour change without restricting options. Our objectives were to conduct a systematic review to describe the types of nudge interventions used to reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescribing in primary care, their key features, and their effects on antibiotic prescribing overall. METHODS: Medline, Embase and grey literature were searched for randomised trials or regression discontinuity studies in April 2021. Risk of bias was

Non-Guideline-Compliant Prescriptions of Benzodiazepines and Z Drugs: Effects of Social Norm Feedback. A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: In Germany, long-term prescribing of benzodiazepines and Z drugs remains common even though their use for no more than 30 days is recommended in the guidelines because of risks including dependence, cognitive impairment, and falling. In this randomized controlled trial, we studied whether social norm feedback can reduce non-guideline-compliant prescribing in outpatient practices. METHODS: Using routine prescribing data that we obtained from the Rhineland-Palatinate Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV RLP) for the third and fourth quarters of 2022, we identifie
