How do general hospitals respond to people diagnosed with a personality disorder who are distressed: A qualitative study of clinicians in mental health liaison.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: People diagnosed with a personality disorder might be more likely to have physical health problems and be admitted to the hospital. Treatment in hospitals might be complicated by mental health crises or self-injury, and barriers to NHS care may increase the risk of developing further illness with serious consequences. Literature on "personality disorder" and the general hospital has to date primarily focused on emergency departments. Research on how general hospital inpatient wards respond to people diagnosed with a "personality disorder" has been long overdue. T

Predictors of return to work status among patients with autoimmune encephalitis at one year post-discharge: a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a group of centrally mediated inflammatory disorders characterized by symptoms such as seizures, cognitive deficits, psychiatric symptoms, and movement disorders, often requiring prolonged hospitalization and rehabilitation. Although studies have explored the prognosis of patients with autoimmune encephalitis (AE), the return to work (RTW), a crucial indicator of quality of life, remains under-researched. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the RTW status and its influencing factors among AE patients one year post-discharge, providing n

Municipal return to work management in cancer survivors undergoing cancer treatment: a protocol on a controlled intervention study.

BACKGROUND: Cancer survivors are often left on their own to deal with the challenges of resuming work during or after cancer treatment, mainly due to unclear agreements between stakeholders responsible for occupational rehabilitation. Social inequality exists in cancer risk, survival probability and continues with regard to the chance of being able to return to work. The aim is to apply an early, individually tailored occupational rehabilitation intervention to cancer survivors in two municipalities parallel with cancer treatment focusing on enhancing readiness for return to work. METHODS/DES

Our study analyzed day-hospital admissions between 2003 and 2009. The patient charts used for managing day-hospital activity were adopted in 2002 in conformity with the "OSI project". From these it is possible to draw up a

Implementing Heart Plus: Design and Early Results of a Novel Comanagement Clinic for Patients With Stimulant-associated Cardiomyopathy.

We describe the methodology, design, and early results of a novel multidisciplinary co management clinic model with Addiction Medicine and Cardiology providers using contingency management to engage patients with stimulant-associated cardiomyopathy (SA-CMP). Stimulant use, including methamphetamine and cocaine, is increasing in prevalence nationally and is associated with cardiovascular complications. People with SA-CMP have higher rates of mortality and acute care use (eg, emergency department visits, hospital admissions) and lower rates of outpatient care engagement than individuals with non

Improving access to epilepsy care for homeless patients in the Dublin Inner City: a collaborative quality improvement project joining hospital and community care.

Homelessness is associated with significant psychosocial and health disparities. The rate of epilepsy among this cohort is eight times greater than that in the settled population, and the associated morbidity is higher due to lack of integrated care, difficulties with treatment adherence, substance abuse and poor social circumstances. There is a high rate of seizure-related death in homeless patients. Seizures are one of the most common neurological cause for emergency department presentation among this population. The aim of this quality improvement project was to use a multistakeholder co-pr
