Neural Mechanisms of Visual-Spatial Judgment Behavior under Visual and Auditory Constraints: Evidence from an Electroencephalograph during Handgun Shooting.

Light and noise are important factors affecting shooting performance, and shooters can exhibit physiological processes that differ from normal shooting when they are subjected to disturbed visual and auditory conditions. The purpose of this study was to explore the neural mechanism of shooting preparation in skilled shooters with visual and auditory limitations. We designed an experiment and recorded the electroencephalograph (EEG) and shooting performance indexes of 40 individuals skilled in marksmanship during the shooting preparation stage under three conditions: low light, noise interferen

Lipid Modified with Pyridinium Betaine Manipulates Liposomal Membrane Fusion Behavior for Spatially Confined Cytoplasmic Delivery.

Spatially confining the membrane-fusion effects of fusogenic delivery systems in tumors can enhance therapeutic efficacy and reduce systemic toxicity. However, current existing fusion-regulating strategies often suffer from insensitivity and unidirectional control, leading to suboptimal antitumor effects and potential safety risks. Here, we designed a pyridinium betaine-capped lipid, 2-(4-((2,3-di(stearoyloxy)propyl)carbamoyl)pyridin-1-ium-1-yl)acetate (DSPCPA)), as a pH-responsive regulator to precisely manipulate the membrane-fusion behavior of fusogenic liposomes. Incorporating DSPCPA, we o

Baseline Cortisol and Behavioral Phenotype Are Linked to Context-Dependent Spatial Cognition and Space Use in Giant Pandas.

Animals differ consistently in how they respond to novelty and environmental change, but whether such variation links endocrine state, spatial cognition, and space use remains unresolved. In giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), we combined novel object tests, a resource-change experiment, fecal cortisol measurements, and GPS tracking to ask whether baseline cortisol and repeatable behavioral differences relate to spatial cognition and space use in novel environments. We identified two repeatable behavioral dimensions, behavioral inhibition and exploration intensity, both positively associate

Spatial and Temporal Characteristics of Distractor-Induced Repulsion Effect in Visual Working Memory: A Behavioral and ERP Study.

In visual working memory, relation-based distractors can induce a memory repulsion effect, yet its spatial boundary and cognitive stage remain unclear. Across two experiments, we examined the spatial modulation and temporal dynamics of this effect. Experiment 1 presented a central target with peripheral distractors arranged as a regular pentagon and manipulated target-distractor spatial distance. Results showed that the repulsion effect decreased monotonically with increasing distance, supporting an absolute-distance account rather than a strict central attentional window account. Experiment 2

The Sikkim mouse (Mus pahari) exhibits distinct spatial, circadian, and social behaviors compared to laboratory mice.

While the laboratory mouse is one of the most studied organisms on the planet, comparative research on the spatial and social structures of closely related Mus species remains limited. Here, we characterize the spatial, circadian, and social behavior of the Sikkim mouse (Mus pahari) wild-derived inbred strain PAH/Eij in comparison to the laboratory mouse strain C57BL/6J (Mus musculus domesticus, shortened to 'B6'). Using a common garden approach, we monitored mice in replicate mixed-sex group social behavior trials within an indoor mesocosm using radiofrequency identification (RFID) antennae.

Deletion of asparagine endopeptidase reduces anxiety- and depressive-like behaviors and improves abilities of spatial cognition in mice.

Mammalian asparagine endopeptidase (AEP) is a lysosomal cysteine protease that cleaves protein substrates on the C-terminal side of asparagine. The expression and activity of AEP are closely related to many pathological conditions that include cancer, atherosclerosis and inflammation. It has been validated that the level of AEP is elevated in aged human and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD). Mood disorder is one of the most emotional symptoms that can be seen in AD patients, which leads us to assume that AEP can modulate affective behaviors. AEP knockout (AEP KO) and wil

Human fronto-parietal and parieto-hippocampal pathways represent behavioral priorities in multiple spatial reference frames.

We represent behaviorally relevant information in different spatial reference frames in order to interact effectively with our environment. For example, we need an egocentric (e.g., body-centered) reference frame to specify limb movements and an allocentric (e.g., world-centered) reference frame to navigate from one location to another. Posterior parietal cortex (PPC) is vital for performing transformations between these different coordinate systems. Here, we review evidence for multiple pathways in the human brain, from PPC to motor, premotor, and supplementary motor areas, as well as to stru

Brain activity during visuomotor behavior triggered by arbitrary and spatially constrained cues: an fMRI study in humans.

Rule-based behavior associating nonspatial visual stimuli with learned responses is called arbitrary visuomotor mapping, an ability that enriches behavioral repertoire. To better understand the underlying neural correlates, the present functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study explored brain activity during visually informed movement involving two different types of cues and two different effectors. After being trained on the tasks, six healthy subjects performed right or left finger tapping tasks according to either arbitrary cues or spatially constrained cues. An event-related fMRI

Temporal and spatial control of phosphatidylinositides using optogenetics ameliorates behavioral deficits in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model.

Deficits in levels of phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2] mediate Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis and etiology. The depletion of PI(4,5)P2 has been reported in AD in both human brain and animal models. Repletion of the synaptic pool of PI(4,5)P2, through haploinsufficiency of the degrading enzyme, Synaptojanin 1, ameliorated behavioral deficits in a mouse model of AD, in spite of accumulating amyloid. In order to refine the contribution of PI(4,5)P2 to AD, we used optogenetic translocation of the PI(4,5)P2-synthesizing enzyme, phosphoinositide phosphate 4 kinase2A (PIP4K2A)

DL-/PO-phosphatidylcholine restores restraint stress-induced depression-related behaviors and spatial memory impairment.

The present study investigated the effects of 1,2-dilinoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DL-PC) and 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (PO-PC) on depression-related behaviors and spatial memory impairment in mice subjected to restraint stress. The immobility time in forced-swim and tail-suspension tests for mice subjected to restraint stress was significantly longer than that for nonstressed control mice, and oral coadministration of DL-PC and PO-PC (DL-/PO-PC; DL-PC : PO-PC=1 : 1) shortened the prolonged immobility time in a dose (0.1-5 mg/kg)-dependent manner. [Behavioral mechanisms of spatial competition between red wood ants (Formica aquilonia) and ground beetles (Carabidae)].

Behavioral aspects of spatial competition between red wood ants (Formica aquilonia) and six mass species of Carabidae were studied in field and laboratory experiments. We showed that red wood ants essentially influence spatial distribution of ground beetles on their common territories. Transplantation experiments suggest that in newly established ants' settlements stronger forms of interrelations arise than in old stable colony. To examine the ability of beetles to avoid collisions with ants we used two experimental techniques. In laboratory, we tested carabids ability to avoid a clash in a Y-

Why Hantavirus Prevalence Does Not Always Increase With Host Density: Modeling the Role of Host Spatial Behavior and Maternal Antibodies.

For wildlife diseases, one often relies on host density to predict host infection prevalence and the subsequent force of infection to humans in the case of zoonoses. Indeed, if transmission is mainly indirect, i.e., by way of the environment, the force of infection is expected to increase with host density, yet the laborious field data supporting this theoretical claim are often absent. Hantaviruses are among those zoonoses that have been studied extensively over the past decades, as they pose a significant threat to humans. In Europe, the most widespread hantavirus is the Puumala virus (PUUV)

Using Spatial Disease Patterns and Patient-Level Characteristics to Describe Prevalence Elastic Behavior in Treatment for Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI).

OBJECTIVE: Individual adherence to a 9-month regimen of isoniazid (9INH) for treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) was hypothesized to reflect a prevalent elastic health behavior pattern, or prevention behavior correlated with relevant disease burden. METHOD: Log-rank tests were used to compare survival functions among raw prevalence tertiles for diseases including TB, diabetes, and obesity. Own and cross-prevalence elasticities were calculated and spatially characterized behavioral response to diseases that may impact TB re-infection and/or re-activation. Discrete choice models w

Divergent Associations of Pain and Anxiety with Disease Duration in Trigeminal Neuralgia: Evidence from Behavior, Spatial Gradients, and Duration-Related Patterns.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) patients frequently develop anxiety. We tested whether this anxiety reflects an independent dimension rather than a mere byproduct of chronic pain. We enrolled 58 TN patients-all with BNI grade V (treatment-refractory severe pain)-and 30 healthy controls. Evidence was assessed across three parallel dimensions: behavioral (HAMA anxiety levels), spatial (functional gradient architecture along the perceptual-cognitive axis, Gradient 3), and duration-related (Gradient 3 patterns with disease duration). Behaviorally, anxiety was elevated versus HC (HAMA: 9.23±6.11 vs 5.26±

Denitrification behavior and microbial community spatial distribution inside woodchip-based solid-phase denitrification (W-SPD) bioreactor for nitrate-contaminated water treatment.

The NO3- removal pathway and microorganisms change along with the height of an up-flow W-SPD bioreactor was investigated in this study. Modeling and microbial community analysis were used to analyze the denitrification behavior in W-SPD bioreactor. The results showed that NO3- removal rate matched for zero-order (R2 > 0.97) and first-order (R2 > 0.94) combination Michaelis-Menten kinetics, whereas microbial reaction rate suited for modified logistic model (R2 > 0.99). Behavioral timescale synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus creates non-spatial representations during learning and is modulated by entorhinal inputs.

Behavioral timescale synaptic plasticity (BTSP) is a form of synaptic potentiation where a single plateau potential in hippocampal neurons forms a place field during spatial learning. We asked whether BTSP can also form non-spatial responses in the hippocampus and what roles the medial and lateral entorhinal cortex (MEC and LEC) play in driving non-spatial BTSP. Two-photon calcium imaging of dorsal CA1 neurons while mice performed an odor-cued working memory task revealed plateau-like events which formed stable odor-specific responses. These BTSP-like events were much more frequent during the

Behavioral Regulation, Visual Spatial Maturity in Kindergarten, and the Relationship of School Adaptation in the First Grade for a Sample of Turkish Children.

Behavioral regulation has recently become an important variable in research looking at kindergarten and first-grade achievement of children in private and public schools. The purpose of this study was to examine a measure of behavioral regulation, the Head Toes Knees Shoulders Task, and to evaluate its relationship with visual spatial maturity at the end of kindergarten. Later, in first grade, teachers were asked to rate the children (N = 82) in terms of academic and behavioral adaptation. Behavioral regulation and visual spatial maturity were significantly different between the two school typ
