3,6-Dichlorosalicylate Catabolism Is Initiated by the DsmABC Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenase System in Rhizorhabdus dicambivorans Ndbn-20.

The degradation of the herbicide dicamba is initiated by demethylation to form 3,6-dichlorosalicylate (3,6-DCSA) in Rhizorhabdusdicambivorans Ndbn-20. In the present study, a 3,6-DCSA degradation-deficient mutant, Ndbn-20m, was screened. A cluster, dsmR1DABCEFGR2, was lost in this mutant. The cluster consisted of nine genes, all of which were apparently induced by 3,6-DCSA. DsmA shared 30 to 36% identity with the monooxygenase components of reported three-component cytochrome P450 systems and formed a monophyletic branch in the phylogenetic tree. DsmB and DsmC were most closely related to the

Structural and mechanistic insights into dioxin dioxygenase (DxnA1A2) from Rhizorhabdus wittichii RW1: A key enzyme for biodegradation of hazardous dioxins and furans.

Dioxin Dioxygenase (DxnA1A2) is one of the unique enzymes that can catalyze the angular dioxygenation of dibenzo-p-dioxin (DD) and dibenzofuran (DF). This enzyme has the potential to degrade other polychlorinated persistent organic compounds as well, which pose a serious threat to the environment and human health. In this study, the crystal structure of the dioxin dioxygenase was determined for the first time from Rhizorhabdus wittichii RW1. DxnA1A2 from RW1 is an effective enzyme against these substrates. The crystal structure provided critical insights into the α3β3 heterohexamer organizatio

Investigating RND efflux pumps in Sphingobium yanoikuyae P4: the role of nonpathogenic bacteria in antibiotic resistance gene spread amid environmental contamination.

The widespread and inappropriate application of antibiotics across human and veterinary medicine has generated pressing global health threats, principally the emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the contamination of the environment with antibiotics. A fundamental mechanism fueling environmental AMR is the proliferation and horizontal dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), with efflux transporter proteins functioning as central intermediaries. Surprisingly, nonpathogenic bacteria, which are usually regarded as harmless, now pose a substantial risk to society due to the

Isolation and characterization of a carbofuran-degrading strain Novosphingobium sp. FND-3.

A gram-negative Novosphingobium sp. strain FND-3 capable of degrading carbofuran was isolated and characterized. The carbofuran-degrading ability of strain FND-3 was investigated under various culture conditions. Strain FND-3 showed a high average carbofuran-degrading rate of 28.6 mg L(-1) h(-1) in mineral salts medium with 100 mg L(-1) carbofuran. GC/MS analysis pointed out the presence of several unknown metabolites. One hydrolyzate was identified as 2-hydroxy-3-(3-methypropan-2-ol) phenol via hydrolysis of carbofuran phenol. The appearance of another metabolite with M(+) of 180 m/z indicate

Resistance to medically important antimicrobials in broiler and layer farms in Cameroon and its relation with biosecurity and antimicrobial use.

INTRODUCTION: Poultry production accounts for 42% of Cameroonian meat production. However, infectious diseases represent the main hindrance in this sector, resulting in overuse and misuse of antimicrobials that can contribute to the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) conferring resistance to carbapenems (blaVIM-2 and blaNDM ), (fluoro) quinolones (qnrS, qnrA, and qnrB), polymyxins (mcr1 to mcr5), and macrolides (ermA and ermB) in the poultry farm environment. Additionally, the study

Investigating the composition and distribution of microplastics surface biofilms in coral areas.

In recent years, global climate change and pollution of the marine environment have caused large-scale coral deaths and severe damages to coral reef ecosystems. Numerous studies have shown that coral diseases are closely related to microorganisms. And microplastics (MPs) are a potential threat to corals. In marine ecosystems, MPs are an emerging contaminant. MPs have a strong adsorption effect on pollutants in the water environment, and they are very easily colonized by microorganisms to form biofilms. Biofilms may accumulate many pathogens, increasing the probability of coral disease. However

Phage communities in household-related biofilms correlate with bacterial hosts.

The average American spends 93% of their time in built environments, almost 70% of that is in their place of residence. Human health and well-being are intrinsically tied to the quality of our personal environments and the microbiomes that populate them. Conversely, the built environment microbiome is seeded, formed, and re-shaped by occupant behavior, cleaning, personal hygiene and food choices, as well as geographic location and variability in infrastructure. Here, we focus on the presence of viruses in household biofilms, specifically in showerheads and on toothbrushes. Bacteriophage, virus

Diversity and seasonal dynamics of bacterial community in indoor environment.

BACKGROUND: We spend most of our lives in indoor environments and are exposed to microbes present in these environments. Hence, knowledge about this exposure is important for understanding how it impacts on human health. However, the bacterial flora in indoor environments has been only fragmentarily explored and mostly using culture methods. The application of molecular methods previously utilised in other environments has resulted in a substantial increase in our awareness of microbial diversity. RESULTS: The composition and dynamics of indoor dust bacterial flora were investigated in two bu

Microbial communities associated with plastic fishing nets: diversity, potentially pathogenic and hydrocarbon degrading bacteria.

Abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) represent a major source of marine plastic litter pollution. Similar to other plastic litter, these items can provide a new surface for the growth of biofilms harboring distinct microbial communities, containing potential opportunistic pathogens or pollutant-degrading microorganisms. While knowledge is increasing for marine plastic litter and microplastic-associated biofilms, there is a gap on the plastisphere research for fishing gear. This study aimed to comprehend the structure and dynamics of the microbial communities attached to

Microbiome dynamics in tank- and pond-reared Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT).

INTRODUCTION: Tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) are among the most widely cultivated freshwater finfish species worldwide. The industry increasingly relies on tilapia strains selected for improved growth and other traits, particularly the Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) strain. Despite the industry's reliance on tilapia, knowledge of microbiome dynamics in reared tilapia remains limited. Understanding normal successional patterns in the microbiome of farmed tilapia is essential for identifying the characteristics that constitute a healthy microbial community. METHODS: In this study, we as

Description of Erythrobacter epiphyticus sp. nov. and Sphingomonas epibiotica sp. nov., epibiotic bacteria isolated from the roots of aquatic plants.

A polyphasic taxonomic study was carried out on two bacteria isolated from the roots of aquatic plants, designated as strains T5W1-RT and T9W2T. Both are Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile and aerobic bacteria. Strain T5W1-RT is red-pigmented and produces bacteriochlorophyll, while strain T9W2T is yellow and does not produce bacteriochlorophyll. Nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequence homology related T5W1-RT to Erythrobacter, with 99.0 and 98.9% similarity to Erythrobacter dokdonensis DSM 17193T and Erythrobacter fulvus KACC 22865T, respectively, and T9W2T to Sphingomonas, with 99.2 and 99.

Lead (Pb) bioremediation by Sphingobium sp. RO-01 strain isolated from gold mine tailings, Atacama Desert, Chile.

This study investigated the microbiological and geochemical characteristics of gold mining tailings and assessed the potential of a Pb-tolerant bacterial strain, Sphingobium sp. RO-01, for lead (Pb) removal through biomineralization. The tailings were dominated by fine particles (average 12.3 μm) with low permeability and high leaching potential, indicating a substantial risk of heavy-metal dispersion and acid mine drainage. X-ray fluorescence analysis showed Pb concentrations of 580 ppm, exceeding the EPA limit of 400 ppm, while X-ray diffraction suggested that Pb was primarily present in amo
