Osteosarcoma is a malignant tumor that often occurs in adolescents. There is an urgent need for new treatment options for osteosarcoma due to its poor prognosis after metastasis. Cancer stem cell (CSC) theory states that CSCs represent a small proportion of cancer cells. These CSC have self-renewal ability and are closely associated with cancer growth and metastasis as well as chemotherapy resistance. Similarly, osteosarcoma stem cells (OSCs) play an important role in the growth, metastasis, and chemotherapy resistance of osteosarcoma cells. Targeting OSCs may represent a future treatment of o

Stem cell research offers a wide variety of approaches for the advancement of our understanding of basic mechanisms of neurodegeneration and tissue regeneration and for the discovery and development of new therapeutic strategies to prevent and restore neuronal cell loss. Similar to most other regions of our central nervous system, degenerative diseases of the retina lead to the loss of neurons, which are not replaced. Recent work in animals has provided proof-of-concept evidence for the restoration of photoreceptor cells by cell transplantation and neuronal cell replacement by regeneration fro

Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are a small group of testicular cells located in the basement membrane of seminiferous tubules and can balance self-renewal and differentiation during spermatogenesis. Our in vitro culture experiments of mouse SSCs indicated heterogeneity of cultured cells. Highly compact colonies were observed next to SSC colonies, which we call clump cells. We used immunocytochemical staining to identify SSCs and somatic cells with VASA and Vimentin antibodies. Subsequently, we compared mRNA expression levels of VASA, DAZL, PLZF, GFRA1, Lin28, Kit, Myc and Vimentin genes usin

The injury and repair of retinal neurons is a common scientific problem in the occurrence, development and prognosis of neuronal visual impairment. Transplant of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) differentiated from stem cells opens a new avenue for treatment of glaucoma and optic neuronal degenerative diseases. For the goal to explore the optimal method for RGCs replacement, this review summarizes the current information regarding the classification and application of stem cells, the growth characteristics of RGCs and the precise methods to induce RGCs, and discusses some important issues that ne

Stem cell (SC) research plays a central role in disease modeling and regenerative medicine, yet its clinical translation remains challenged by biological heterogeneity, incomplete cellular maturation, stringent quality-control requirements, and increasingly complex biological and clinical data. Machine learning (ML) has emerged as a powerful computational approach for extracting biologically meaningful information from these data, enabling quantitative characterization of SC behavior and predictive modeling across diverse experimental and translational applications. This review presents a unif

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) remains a severe complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and effective treatment options remain limited, particularly for patients with steroid-refractory GVHD or failure of multiple lines of therapy. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy has shown promise for the prevention and treatment of GVHD because of the low immunogenicity and immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-reparative properties of MSC. To date, MSC-based products have been approved for the treatment of acute GVHD (aGVHD) in several countries, including China

Stem cell therapy represents an intrinsic part of regenerative medicine, with expanding applications in orthopedic and musculoskeletal research. Although studies span from small-animal models to early-phase clinical trials, the field remains fragmented, with wide variation in stem cell types, delivery methods, and target tissues. A consolidated overview is needed to inform future directions and bridge the gap between preclinical promise and clinical application. This scoping review synthesized evidence from 500 preclinical and clinical studies, identified through systematic searches and screen

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is among the most aggressive brain cancers, and it contains glioma stem cells (GSCs) that drive tumor initiation, progression, and recurrence. These cells resist conventional therapies, contributing to high recurrence rates in GBM patients. Developing in vitro models that mimic the tumor microenvironment (TME), particularly the GSC niche, is crucial for understanding GBM growth and therapeutic resistance. Three-dimensional (3D) spheroid models provide a more physiologically relevant approach than traditional two-dimensional (2D) cultures, recapitulating key tumor

In recent years, with the problem of aging population in China being prominant, the number of patients with chronic wounds such as diabetic foot, pressure ulcer, and vascular ulcer is increasing. Those diseases seriously affect the life quality of patients and increase the economy and care burden of the patients' family, which have been one of the most urgent clinical problems. Many researches have confirmed that adipose stem cells can effectively promote wound healing, while exogenous protease is needed, and there are ethical and many other problems, which limit the clinical application of ad

With an incidence of 1/800 - 1/600, Down syndrome (DS) is the most common chromosomal disorder in humans. Whilst most DS patients has trisomy 21, a small proportion may carry translocations or mosaicisms involving chromosome 21. The main characteristics of DS include mental retardation, peculiar facies, growth retardation, congenital heart disease, duodenal stenosis, Alzheimer's disease, leukemia, and immunodeficiency, which may be due to increased dosage of critical genes. Recent studies also showed that epigenetic changes may also occur in DS. For research on patients with DS or other trisom

Human skin maintains the ability to regenerate during adulthood, as it constantly renews itself throughout adult life, and the hair follicle (HF) undergoes a perpetual cycle of growth and degeneration. The study of stem cells (SCs) in the epidermis and skin tissue engineering is a rapidly emerging field, where advances have been made in both basic and clinical research. Advances in basic science include the ability to assay SCs of the epidermis in vivo, identification of an independent interfollicular epidermal SC, and improved ability to analyze individual SCs divisions, as well as the recent

Translational Medicine is an evolutional concept that encompasses the rapid translation of basic research for use in clinical disease diagnosis, prevention, treatment and finally in public health promotion. It follows the idea "from bench to bedside and back", and hence relies on cooperation between laboratory research and clinical care. Translation process is a complex process that requires both research and non-research activities. During the past ten years, there has been intense interest in the development of new clinical procedures, therapeutic molecules, and prototypes based on translati

Oral stem cell research encompasses the study of dental pulp stem cells, periodontal ligament stem cells, regeneration of dental pulp and periodontal ligament, and therapeutic approaches for dental caries. Dental pulp stem cells, located in the oral cavity, have been applied to tooth, alveolar bone, and periodontal tissue regeneration and are anticipated to exert systemic therapeutic effects. Global efforts to identify biomarkers of oral disease have employed expression proteome analysis. However, because most proteins function only after undergoing post-translational modifications, methods ba

Combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) suppresses HIV in most patients, but it cannot cure HIV infection. The main challenge to a cure is the presence of latent replication-competent HIV in resting CD4+ T cells in blood and tissues, which reignite infection after cART removal. The long half-life of this reservoir is a major barrier to a cure, and its elimination is a main goal of current HIV research. Animal models that recapitulate HIV latency can provide key insights into the establishment of HIV latency and, more importantly, enable the testing of HIV eradication strategies. We describe

Hearing loss is the most widely spread sensory disorder in our society. In the majority of cases, it is caused by the loss or malfunctioning of cells in the cochlea: the mechanosensory hair cells, which act as primary sound receptors, and the connecting auditory neurons of the spiral ganglion, which relay the signal to upper brain centers. In contrast to other vertebrates, where damage to the hearing organ can be repaired through the activity of resident cells, acting as tissue progenitors, in mammals, sensory cell damage or loss is irreversible. The understanding of gene and cellular function

BK virus infection is one of the common complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT), which is also one of the reasons of the hemorrhagic cystitis. In recent years, although there are more studies of the risk factors related with human BK virus infection after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the risk factors related with BKV-associated hemorrhagio cystitis(BKV-HC) remain to be elucidated. Diagnosis of BK virus infection is mainly based on quantitative PCR of blood or urine. An effective strategy for treatment of these patients is the adoptive transfer of T lymphocy

Glaucoma is a typical irreversible blind neurodegenerative disease for which there is no effective treatment for halting visual deterioration. The recent development of neural stem cells studies sheds light on a potential resolution for this disease. As a result, an appropriate glaucoma modeling method for stem cell transplantation study is needed. In the present study, Dexamethasone was injected unilaterally into the conjunctiva of New Zealand rabbit at the dose of 2.5 mg (5 mg/mL), three times a week. After eight weeks, the eye ground photography showed that the optic nerve head of the treat
