Using Laser Therapy and Topical Ozone as an Effective Intervention to Revolutionize Denture Stomatitis Treatment: A Case Report.

In dentistry, denture stomatitis (DS), a frequent inflammatory illness of the oral mucosa mostly related to denture wearing, is a major concern. DS is a common oral mycotic infection for those who wear partial or total dentures. The most often found species of Candida that may be isolated from both healthy and diseased oral tissues is Candida albicans. DS is associated with uneven denture surfaces, inadequate oral hygiene, or ill-fitting dentures. The diagnosis and management of DS in a 72-year-old male patient is presented in this case study. The patient complained about burning in his palate

Digital Design of a Universal Rat Intraoral Device for Therapeutic Evaluation of a Topical Formulation against Candida-Associated Denture Stomatitis.

Candida-associated denture stomatitis (DS) is a persistent and chronic oral infection of the denture-bearing palatal mucosa. DS stems from the ability of the fungal opportunistic pathogen Candida albicans to adhere to denture material and invade palatal tissue. Although DS is the most prevalent form of oral candidiasis, there are currently no feasible therapeutic strategies for the prevention of this recurrent condition. We developed a peptide-based antimicrobial bioadhesive formulation specifically designed for oral topical formulation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the applicability of

Clinical and histological findings of denture stomatitis as related to intraoral colonization patterns of Candida albicans, salivary flow, and dry mouth.

PURPOSE: Multifactorial etiological factors contribute to denture stomatitis (DS), a type of oral candidiasis; however, unlike other oral candidiasis, DS can occur in a healthy person wearing a denture. In this study, we therefore attempt to explore the association between candida, denture, and mucosal tissue using (1) exfoliative cytology, (2) the candidal levels present in saliva, on mucosal tissues and on denture surfaces, and (3) the salivary flow rate and xerostomic symptoms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study enrolled 32 edentulous participants, 17 without DS as controls and

Functionalization of cationic porphyrins with peripheral platinum(II) complexes to optimize photodynamic therapy against Candida-associated infections: a focus on denture stomatitis and burn wounds.

Candida spp. are opportunistic pathogens associated with mucosal and cutaneous infections. Its increased resistance to antifungals has instigated the development of adjunct treatments, such as antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). This study evaluated the antifungal effects of aPDT mediated by two tetra-cationic porphyrins with peripheral platinum(II) complexes (3-Pt and 4-Pt). A thorough investigation was performed using in vitro and in vivo assays to determine their antifungal activity on Candida albicans and toxicity in human cells. Next, specific models were employed to search for und
