Knowledge acquisition and retention when implementing public health awareness training on common pediatric eye conditions in Thailand.

Beyond the Classroom: The School-To-Prison Pipeline as a Public Health Crisis.

The School-to-Prison Pipeline (STPPL) is primarily positioned in the discourse relating to education and criminal justice yet its public health implications remain underexplored. This commentary draws the connections between STPPL and social determinants of health on Macro, Mezzo, and Micro levels. The STPPL disrupts access to mental health care, nutritional programs, and safety systems embedded within schools. Exclusionary practices such as suspensions and expulsions disconnect students from critical services that promote psychological stability and physical well-being Obsuth et al. (2024). N

Reduced-credit bachelor's degrees and the BSPH: what should undergraduate public health optimize for?

Undergraduate public health education has expanded rapidly in the United States and now serves several overlapping purposes. The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) may function as an entry point into the public health workforce, a foundation for graduate public health study, a pathway for students considering clinical professions, and a broad liberal education experience centered on population health. Recent accreditation changes within the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) have opened a formal pathway for reduced-credit bachelor's degrees,

Social support and mental health among college students.

This study is the first, to our knowledge, to evaluate the relationship between mental health and social support in a large, random sample of college students. A Web-based survey was administered at a large, public university, with 1,378 students completing the measures in this analysis (response rate = 57%). The results support our hypothesis that students with characteristics differing from most other students, such as minority race or ethnicity, international status, and low socioeconomic status, are at greater risk of social isolation. In addition, the authors found that students with lowe

Shaping future leaders: developing an MPH leadership curriculum through problem-based learning.

Leadership is essential to public health practice, yet few MPH programs offer structured, integrated approaches to cultivating leadership competencies. At the University of North Carolina's Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Leadership in Practice (LIP) MPH concentration responds to this gap by embedding problem-based learning (PBL) throughout a multi-course curriculum designed to prepare students for real-world leadership challenges. Drawing on interdisciplinary faculty expertise and a constructivist pedagogical philosophy, the LIP curriculum emphasizes systems thinking, strategic d

Digital Health Literacy and Web-Based Information-Seeking Behaviors of University Students in Germany During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Digital communication technologies are playing an important role in the health communication strategies of governments and public health authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The internet and social media have become important sources of health-related information on COVID-19 and on protective behaviors. In addition, the COVID-19 infodemic is spreading faster than the coronavirus itself, which interferes with governmental health-related communication efforts. This jeopardizes national public health containment strategies. Therefore, digital health literacy is a key competence t

Psychological distress in the university and the field of Collective Mental Health: a 46-year integrative review.

College students' mental health has become a pressing issue, demanding answers from educators and health professionals. Universities are seeking public health systems to address students' psychological distress and ensure access to care. This presents a new challenge for mental health public policies designed for extreme cases in low-income populations stigmatized as insane and denied citizenship. College students don't fit this frame. They are educated, productive, and socially competent even though they are affected by specific vulnerabilities linked to social markers of difference, in an in
