An unusual presentation of nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy with subretinal fluid treated with intravitreal bevacizumab.

A 62-year-old hypertensive male presented with acute nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) with contiguous macular edema and subretinal fluid in the right eye. Presenting vision was 20/1000. The patient was treated with intravitreal bevacizumab 1.25 mg/0.05 ml. At 1 month follow-up, the macular edema and the optic nerve head edema completely resolved with a good visual improvement up to 20/40. The visual improvement was maintained at the last follow-up 6 months postinjection. Intravitreal bevacizumab may be a good option for acute NAION especially in an unusual presentation with macul

Influence of subretinal fluid in advanced stage retinopathy of prematurity on proangiogenic response and cell proliferation.

PURPOSE: The clinical phenotype of advanced stage retinopathy of prematurity (ROP, stages 4 and 5) cannot be replicated in an animal model. To dissect the molecular events that can lead up to advanced ROP, we examined subretinal fluid (SRF) and surgically dissected retrolental membranes from patients with advanced ROP to evaluate its influences on cell proliferation, angiogenic properties, and macrophage polarity. METHODS: We compared our findings to SRF collected from patients with uncomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) without proliferative vitreoretinopathy and surgically dis

RPE Tear and Chronic CSC-like Subretinal Fluid After Subthreshold Micropulse Laser for Serous PED.

Subthreshold micropulse laser (SML) is a phototherapeutic alternative strategy for central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and has been reported for selected serous pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs), especially when the verteporfin in photodynamic therapy (PDT) is unavailable. However, retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) tear following SML has not been well documented. This case report describes an RPE tear and chronic CSC-like subretinal fluid after SML treatment for serous PED in a 44-year-old male. The patient developed an RPE tear after primary SML treatment, followed by chronic recurrent

Outcomes of modified pneumatic retinopexy with transscleral subretinal fluid drainage for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

BACKGROUND: Primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) occurs when a retinal tear or break causes fluid from inside the eye to seep behind the retina, which pushes it away from the wall of the eye. This can cause permanent vision loss if not treated. Which of three current interventions is optimal to treat RRD has not been established. We evaluated the anatomical and visual outcomes of a modified pneumatic retinopexy (mPnR) that drains fluid from beneath the retina to treat RRD. METHODS: This retrospective single-center case series included 53 consecutive eyes of 53 patients with primary

Successful Removal of Subretinal Silicone Oil Using a Vitreous Fluid Control Kit: A Case Report.

Silicone oil (SO) is commonly used as a long-term intraocular tamponade in complex retinal detachment cases, but its use may lead to several complications, including glaucoma, keratopathy, cataract, and oil emulsification. Subretinal migration of SO is an uncommon but clinically significant event that can occur through pre-existing or iatrogenic retinal breaks or microscopic defects caused by repeated intraocular manipulation. We report a rare case of subretinal SO migration following pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) that was successfully managed using a direct intraocular approach with a vitreous

Spontaneous resolution of subretinal fluid postvitreoretinal surgery for tractional retinal detachment in proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

A man in his 60s with proliferative diabetic retinopathy presented with vision loss in both eyes in the past 1 month. On presentation, the best corrected visual acuity was 20/60 and 20/125 for the right and left eyes, respectively. On examination, he had total tractional retinal detachment (TRD) in the left eye and macula threatening TRD in the right eye. In both eyes, the patient had pars plana vitrectomy, membrane peeling, endolaser and silicone oil injection. Though the left eye's postoperative recovery was uneventful, the subretinal fluid (SRF) in the right eye macula persisted. There was
