Novel UHMWPE sleeve for stabilizing loose suture anchors in rotator cuff repair.

Suture anchors are frequently used for repairing torn rotator cuffs. However, post-operative anchor loosening is a common complication often caused by low bone density. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if a novel UHMWPE cortex locking sleeve could improve the anchor pullout strength after revision in synthetic bone. The initial failed anchor fixation was simulated by inserting a 4.5 mm anchor and pulling it out of the bone, which created an enlarged insertion hole for the revision anchor. After revision, two loosening conditions were simulated; (i) intra-operative anchor loosening whe

Arthroscopic Fixation of Knee Osteochondritis Dissecans With Interlinked Knotless All-Suture Anchors.

Unstable, displaced, and persistently symptomatic osteochondritis dissecans of the knee typically requires surgical treatment. An arthroscopic, knotless fixation method using interlinked all-suture anchors is presented, with potential advantages over other current techniques in fixation over a broad zone, treatment versatility for a wide range of fragment types, retensioning ability after stressing, decreased risk of implant-breakage complications, and avoidance of additional surgery for implant removal.

Using suture anchors for cervical laminoplasty: a reliable, safe, and simple technique.

Cervical spondylomyelopathy from spinal stenosis is a debilitating disease that often progresses with neurologic deficits in the upper and lower extremities. Spinal stenosis may be treated operatively with expansive open-door laminoplasty. We describe the technique of laminoplasty using suture anchors. Suture anchors may be used to perform laminoplasty in a safe, time-efficient, and reliable manner.

Suture anchors and tacks for shoulder surgery, part 1: biology and biomechanics.

The development and successful clinical application of suture anchors and tacks have revolutionized the surgeon's ability to secure soft tissues to bone via open or arthroscopic surgical techniques. When used carefully and with proper technique, these devices provide viable options for the repair and reconstruction of many intra-articular and extra-articular abnormalities in the shoulder, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, and biceps lesions that require labrum repair or biceps tendon tenodesis. Like many technologies, however, the successful application of these devices requi

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using a single-row of triple-loaded suture anchors with a modified suture configuration.

Achieving an adequate restoration of the muscle-tendon-bone unit and the anatomical footprint is essential for a successful outcome in open and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. The described suture grasping technique using triple-loaded suture anchors might combine high initial fixation strength with good footprint coverage. It describes two mattress' stitches medial at the articular margin of the tendon. Additionally, a third mattress stitch is performed laterally to increase footprint contact and avoid dog-ear deformity. The triple-mattress repair is easy to perform and might be a good alte

A Complication in Hypospadias Surgery Due to Anchoring Suture.

The complication rates are still 1-90% both in proximal and distal hypospadias regardless of the surgeon's experience and the usage of most developed techniques. The literature survey revealed few complications of glans penis including meatal stenosis, prolapsus and retraction. Despite our literature survey, we could not find any article concerning the permanent scar tissue at the dorsal part of glans following hypospadias surgeries. A new complication can be added to these, concerning glans which is the formation of postoperative scar tissue as a reaction to suture material used in traction,

Coracoclavicular stabilization using a suture anchor technique.

Multiple fixation options exist for coracoclavicular stabilization, but many are technically demanding and require hardware removal. In the study reported here, we reviewed a specific fixation technique that includes suture anchors moored in the base of the coracoid process. We retrospectively reviewed 24 consecutive cases of patients who underwent coracoclavicular stabilization with a suture anchor for a type III or type V acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation or a group II, type II or type V distal clavicle fracture. Eighteen of the 22 patients had full strength and painless range of motio
