The topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs) tacrolimus and pimecrolimus have been used widely as corticosteroid-sparing agents in treating various cutaneous diseases. However, the association between TCIs and risk of malignancy remains controversial. By systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to investigate the association between TCIs and lymphoma. Eligible studies in online databases were identified from the date of inception to August 30, 2020. To assess the outcome of TCI-related risk of lymphoma, analysis of cohort studies comparing the incidence of lymphoma with and without treatment

BACKGROUND: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease mainly with skin or ocular manifestations. Topical calcineurin inhibitors, pimecrolimus and tacrolimus, can be used to treat rosacea. However, they can also induce rosacea-like eruptions.
AIMS: This study systematically reviewed the double-edged sword effects of pimecrolimus and tacrolimus on rosacea.
METHODS: Four databases were retrieved to search for articles on the effects of pimecrolimus and tacrolimus on rosacea, including Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science. Only English articles were included in the systematic rev

Patients' perspectives on actinic keratosis treatments may have an impact on treatment adherence and, therefore, therapeutic outcomes. We performed a systematic review to assess patients' perspectives of topical, field-directed treatments for actinic keratoses. A literature search was conducted, and 14 studies were identified encompassing 4433 patients. Only four studies were focused on face and/or scalp, which are the locations that typically impact patients' quality of life. Four studies were clinical trials. One study utilized a validated patient-reported outcomes (PRO) instrument specifica

It is estimated that 140 to 200 million people are affected by lymphedema worldwide. Many studies have proposed targeted therapies that can be delivered systemically or locally to treat lymphedema. Since lymphedema primarily affects the skin and subcutaneous tissues, topical approaches to therapy should be considered as an attractive proposition as they can avoid systemic complications. In light of this, we conducted a systematic review of publications that analyzed the use of topical approaches to delivering targeted therapies in the treatment of lymphedema. We hypothesized that topical appro

To date, topical therapies guarantee a better delivery of high concentrations of pharmacologic agents to the mucosa of the upper airways (UA). Recently, topical administration of ectoine has just been recognized as adjuvant treatment in the Allergic Rhinitis (AR) and Rhinosinusitis (ARS). The aim of this work is to review the published literature regarding all the potential therapeutic effects of ectoine in the acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of UA. Pertinent studies published without temporal limitation were selected searching on MEDLINE the following terms: "ectoine" and "nasal spray

Topical and oral antibiotics are routinely used to treat acne. However, antibiotic resistance is increasing, with many countries reporting that more than 50% of Propionibacterium acnes strains are resistant to topical macrolides, making them less effective. We reviewed the current scientific literature to enable proposal of recommendations for antibiotic use in acne treatment. References were identified through PubMed searches for articles published from January, 1954, to March 7, 2015, using four multiword searches. Ideally, benzoyl peroxide in combination with a topical retinoid should be us

BACKGROUND: Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) is the most prevalent hair disorder. Conventional topical minoxidil is limited by suboptimal follicular penetration, local adverse effects, and poor adherence; nanocarrier-based "nanominoxidil" systems may optimize delivery, but their clinical value remains uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: To synthesize experimental and clinical evidence on nanocarrier-based topical minoxidil for AGA.
METHODS: We systematically searched databases (2015-2024) for in vitro, ex-vivo, in vivo, and human studies evaluating nanocarriers < 1000 nm loaded with minoxidil versus convention

Corneal transplantation is a frequently performed procedure for human eye transplants. In low-risk conditions such as keratoconus and Fuch's dystrophy, corneal transplantation has a high success rate due to the immune advantages in support of the cornea. Major risk factors for corneal graft rejection include: atopy, chemical burn, prolonged herpes infection, infectious leukoma, trauma, prior transplantation, active inflammation, and corneal neovascularization. Treatments against lymphangiogenic bacteria and anti-angiogenic bacteria are two strategies to reduce corneal graft rejection. The prim
