A prospective, randomized comparison of promus everolimus-eluting and TAXUS Liberte paclitaxel-eluting stent systems in patients with coronary artery disease eligible for percutaneous coronary intervention: the PROMISE study.

We aimed comparing two-year clinical outcomes of the Everolimus-Eluting Promus and Paclitaxel-Eluting TAXUS Liberte stents used in routine clinical practice. Patients with objective evidence of ischemia and coronary artery disease eligible for PCI were prospectively randomized to everolimus-eluting stent (EES) or paclitaxel-eluting stent (PES) groups. The primary end-point was ischemia-driven target vessel revascularization (TVR) at 2 yr after intervention, and the secondary end-point was a major adverse cardiac event (MACE), such as death, myocardial infarction (MI), target lesion revasculari

A prospective evaluation of the safety and efficacy of TAXUS Element paclitaxel-eluting coronary stent implantation for the treatment of de novo coronary artery lesions in small vessels: the PERSEUS Small Vessel trial.

AIMS: Small reference vessel diameter predicts adverse outcomes following coronary stenting. TAXUS Express and TAXUS Liberté paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) reduce restenosis compared to bare metal stents (BMS) in small diameter vessels. TAXUS Element is a novel thin-strut, platinum chromium stent designed to enhance visibility, conformability, and drug delivery in small diameter vessels. METHODS AND RESULTS: The PERSEUS Small Vessel (SV) prospective, single-arm, superiority trial evaluates the TAXUS Element PES in 224 subjects with target lesion length≤20 mm and vessel diameter≥2.25 to <2.75

Taxus chinensis var. mairei (Lemée et Lévl) Cheng et L.K. Fu overcomes the resistance to osimertinib in EGFR-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer via suppression of ERK1/2-related cholesterol biosynthesis.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Acquired resistance to osimertinib limits its clinical efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations. The widespread recognition of Taxus chinensis var. Mairei (Lemée et Lévl) Cheng et L.K. Fu (Chinese yew) as a natural anti-cancer medication is well-established. However, the specific contribution of Taxus chinensis var. Mairei (Lemée et Lévl) Cheng et L.K. Fu in addressing resistance to osimertinib is still uncertain. AIM OF THE STUDY: Based on the biological behaviors and lipid metabolism, we investigated whether aqueous extract of Taxus

Purification and characterization of Taxol and 10-Deacetyl baccatin III from the bark, needles, and endophytes of Taxus baccata by preparative high-performance liquid chromatography, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance.

Taxol and 10-Deacetyl baccatin III are major taxanes in the bark, needles, and endophytes of Taxus baccata. The current study aimed to develop a process for their separation from different matrices. Crude taxoid was prepared by extraction of samples with methanol, followed by partitioning with dichloromethane and precipitation with hexane. Analytical high-performance liquid chromatography involved isocratic elution on C18 column (4.6 × 250 mm, 5 μm) with methanol-water (70:30 v/v) at a flow rate of 1 ml/min. Injection volume was 20 μl and detection was carried out at 227 nm. The content of Tax

Comparison of plaque sealing with paclitaxel-eluting stents versus medical therapy for the treatment of moderate nonsignificant saphenous vein graft lesions: the moderate vein graft lesion stenting with the taxus stent and intravascular ultrasound (VELETI) pilot trial.

BACKGROUND: The presence of moderate saphenous vein graft (SVG) lesions is a major predictor of cardiac events late after coronary artery bypass grafting. We determined the effects of sealing moderate nonsignificant SVG lesions with paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) on the prevention of SVG atherosclerosis progression. METHODS AND RESULTS: Patients with at least 1 moderate SVG lesion (30% to 60% diameter stenosis) were randomized either to stenting the moderate SVG lesion with a PES (n=30, PES group) or to medical treatment alone (n=27, medical treatment group). Patients had an angiographic and

Natural Taxanes: From Plant Composition to Human Pharmacology and Toxicity.

Biologically active taxanes, present in small- to medium-sized evergreen conifers of various Taxus species, are widely used for their antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, but mostly for their antitumour effects used in the treatment of solid tumours of the breast, ovary, lung, bladder, prostate, oesophagus and melanoma. More of the substances found in Taxus plant extracts have medical potential. Therefore, at the beginning of this review, we describe the methods of isolation, identification and determination of taxanes in different plant parts. One of the most important ta

Paclitaxel-eluting stents for the treatment of chronic total coronary occlusions: a strategy of extensive lesion coverage with drug-eluting stents.

The recanalization of a chronic total coronary occlusion (CTO) is hampered by a high rate of lesion recurrence. The goal of the present study is to assess the effect of paclitaxel-eluting stents in CTOs in a strategy of extensive stent coverage and the optional use of additional bare metal stents (BMSs). In 82 consecutive patients, a CTO (duration > 2 weeks) was successfully recanalized with implantation of one or more Taxus stents. These patients underwent a repeat angiography after 5.0 +/- 1.5 months and were assessed by quantitative angiography. The patients were compared with 82 clinically

Surface sterilization for isolation of endophytes: Ensuring what (not) to grow.

Endophytic microbiota opens a magnificent arena of metabolites that served as a potential source of medicines for treating a variety of ailments and having prospective uses in agriculture, food, cosmetics, and many more. There are umpteen reports of endophytes improving the growth and tolerance of plants. In addition, endophytes from lifesaving drug-producing plants such as Taxus, Nothapodytes, Catharanthus, and so forth have the ability to produce host mimicking compounds. To harness these benefits, it is imperative to isolate the true endophytes, not the surface microflora. The foremost step
