INTRODUCTION: According to the Ayurveda Pharmacopeia of Sri Lanka, the fruit of Phyllanthus emblica L. (PE) and the stems of Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Hook.f. and Thomson (TC) are prescribed for skin diseases such as Kushta (eczema) and Visharpa (spreading inflammatory lesions). Classical Ayurvedic texts, Charaka Samhitha and Sushruta Samhitha, describe PE and TC as "elixirs of life" (Rasayana) and widely incorporated them into formulations for dermatological disorders. Their therapeutic effects have been attributed to a range of bioactive phytochemical constituents identified in herbal ex

The present study evaluated the gastroprotective effect of epoxy clerodane diterpene (ECD), isolated from Tinospora cordifolia on indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer in rats. Administration of indomethacin exhibits extreme levels of ulcer index (UI) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. Indomethacin down regulated PGE2, anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-4, IL-10) and pro-angiogenic factors (VEGF and EGF). The ECD pretreatment considerably increased the levels of PGE2, anti-inflammatory cytokines and pro-angiogenic factors. The ulcer-healing activity of ECD was inhibited by pre-administration of the

Chronic demyelinating disorders, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), are characterized by poor remyelination. This is due to an inherent characteristic of regenerative processes wherein remyelination efficiency drops with aging. Spontaneous remyelination is restricted in MS because of the adult oligodendrocyte progenitor cells' (OPCs) inability to transform into myelinating oligodendrocytes (OLs). The failure to regenerate myelin following injury undermines the integrity of axons and makes them susceptible to degradation. To address this issue stem cell therapy has contributed to a multitude of p
