Supernumerary tooth in nasopalatine canal: a rare cause of septal cartilage collapse.

Mesiodens is the most common type of supernumerary tooth, located between the maxillary central incisors in close relation to the nasopalatine canal. A 20-year-old man presented with right-sided nasal blockage, nasal discharge and collapsed nose without history of trauma. Imaging revealed a calcified mass in the inferior meatus extending into dilated nasopalatine canal. Endoscopic removal of the mass revealed tuberculate appearance of an incompletely developed tooth, consistent with mesiodens. Based on the history of septal cartilage collapse with right-sided mucopurulent discharge, endoscopic

Dentigerous cyst associated with ectopic canine and a supernumerary tooth: a rare occurrence.

Amongst the cysts of the jaw dentigerous cyst (DC) is one of the most prevalent types of odontogenic cysts, which is associated with the crown of an unerupted or developing tooth. DC is more commonly seen with mandibular third molar and maxillary canine and rarely other teeth are involved. These cysts seldom associate with supernumerary teeth. The purpose of this article is to describe a case of large dentigerous cyst associated with supernumerary teeth and an ectopic canine, which is a rare presentation along with its management.

[The combination of a fused tooth and a supernumerary central incisor: a possible treatment plan].

An 8-year old boy was referred to the orthodontic department because of a fused tooth. The clinical and radiological examination showed that - besides the double tooth at the region of the 21 - there was a normal tooth 22 in eruption as well. Moreover a still impacted supernumerary tooth was present in the right upper front region. The treatment included the extraction of the fused tooth and an autotransplantation of the supernumerary tooth to the extraction site of the fused tooth. During the follow-up period the pulp showed a progressive obliteration starting at the crown level with a conser

Navigation in bone-impacted premaxillary supernumerary tooth removal: a preliminary clinical trial.

AIM: The present clinical trial aimed to preliminarily assess whether navigation could help to position impacted supernumerary teeth (STs) and reduce surgical trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Subjects with an impacted supernumerary tooth (ST) in the premaxillary area were enrolled in the study and randomly distributed into a navigation group and a control group. In the navigation group, STs were positioned and extracted under real-time optic navigation. In the control group, STs were extracted depending on the surgeon's experience. Subjects were followed up for 12 to 24 weeks postsurgery. Opera

Bilateral fusion of mandibular second premolar and supernumerary tooth: A rare case report.

Fusion is the union of two normally separated tooth germs resulting in the formation of a single large tooth. The prevalence of this anomaly is less than 1% and most common in the primary dentition, in the incisor-canine region. Fusions are almost always unilateral, but few cases of bilateral fusions have been reported. The purpose of this article is to report a rare case of bilateral fusion of mandibular second premolar with supernumerary tooth.

Enhanced BMP signaling results in supernumerary tooth formation in USAG-1 deficient mouse.

Uterine sensitization associated gene-1 (USAG-1) is a BMP antagonist, and also modulates Wnt signaling. We previously reported that USAG-1 deficient mice have supernumerary teeth. The supernumerary maxillary incisor appears to form as a result of the successive development of the rudimentary upper incisor. USAG-1 abrogation rescued apoptotic elimination of odontogenic mesenchymal cells. We confirmed that BMPs were expressed in both the epithelium and mesenchyme of the rudimentary incisor at E14 and E15. BMP signaling in the rudimentary maxillary incisor, assessed by expressions of Msx1 and Dlx

Bilaterally Erupted Conical-shaped Supernumerary Tooth in a Mixed Dentition: A Case Report.

UNLABELLED: Supplemental teeth present in the normal dentition are known as supernumerary teeth, the most common being mesiodens, which are usually seen in the premaxillary region. Supernumerary teeth are considered as one of the most common dental anomalies in the primary and early mixed dentition. A supernumerary tooth in the primary or mixed dentition usually causes ectopic or delayed eruption of permanent incisors, which may further alter the occlusion and might also compromise esthetics. Here, we discuss a case of bilateral supernumerary teeth in a mixed dentition in a female child. HOW

Loss of Stemness, EMT, and Supernumerary Tooth Formation in Cebpb-/-Runx2+/- Murine Incisors.

Adult Cebpb KO mice incisors present amelogenin-positive epithelium pearls, enamel and dentin allopathic hyperplasia, fewer Sox2-positive cells in labial cervical loop epitheliums, and reduced Sox2 expression in enamel epithelial stem cells. Thus, Cebpb acts upstream of Sox2 to regulate stemness. In this study, Cebpb KO mice demonstrated cementum-like hard tissue in dental pulp, loss of polarity by ameloblasts, enamel matrix in ameloblastic layer, and increased expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers in a Cebpb knockdown mouse enamel epithelial stem cell line. Runx2 knock

Multidisciplinary Management of a Permanent Central Incisor Fused with a Supernumerary Tooth: A Case Report.

Dental anomalies can be challenging for clinicians to diagnose and treat, such as fusion/gemination, which can be considered one of the most challenging anomalies to present a treatment plan for, due to esthetic, orthodontic, and periodontal problems they can cause in most cases. This case report describes an 8-year-old patient who complained of the unpleasant appearance of her right central incisor. Oral and radiographic examinations revealed a supernumerary tooth unilaterally fusing with the maxillary permanent central incisor. Two major factors in choosing a treatment plan in this case incl

Impacted supernumerary tooth in the horizontal plate of palatine bone: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Supernumerary teeth, defined as extra teeth beyond the normal series of dentition, can appear anywhere in the dental arch. They may present as solitary or multiple, unilateral or bilateral, and can be either erupted or impacted. Rarely, supernumerary teeth are found in ectopic locations outside the dental arches, such as the nasal cavity, inferior nasal conchae, maxillary sinus, ethmoid sinus, or skull. To our knowledge, only two cases of supernumerary teeth in the horizontal plate of the palatine bone have been reported globally in the literature. This case represents the third kn

Use of a Piezosurgery Technique to Remove a Deeply Impacted Supernumerary Tooth in the Anterior Maxilla.

Deeply impacted supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxillary cannot be generally removed by the conventional labial or palatal surgical approach because of the risk of damaging the surrounding soft tissues and the possibility of injuring the roots of adjacent permanent teeth. In piezosurgery, bony tissues are selectively cut, thereby avoiding the soft tissue damage caused by rotary cutting instruments. We report the case of a 15-year-old Japanese boy from whom a deeply impacted supernumerary tooth in the anterior maxillary was safely removed through the floor of the nasal cavity. The surgical

Endodontic treatment of a supernumerary tooth fused to a mandibular second molar: a case report.

Since abnormal tooth morphology can predispose to caries and periodontal disease, careful management of fused teeth is essential. In this paper we report a rare case of a fused molar and supernumerary tooth and describe its management. Caries was removed from the tooth complex under local anesthesia. The pulp chamber of the supernumerary tooth was exposed without involvement of second molar pulp chamber. The root canal of the supernumerary tooth was prepared using the step back technique and copious irrigation with 2.6% sodium hypochlorite. Obturation using the lateral condensation technique w

The treatment of a fusion between the maxillary central incisor and supernumerary tooth: report of a case.

Fusion has been described as a developmental anomaly characterized by the union of two adjacent teeth. Supernumerary teeth develop as a consequence of the proliferation of epithelial cells from dental lamina. In this paper a fusion between maxillary central incisor and a supernumerary tooth which required endodontic, surgical and periodontal treatment is presented.

Management of a supernumerary tooth fused to the labial surface of a permanent maxillary central incisor.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Management of supernumerary teeth fused to the labial surface of permanent maxillary central incisors would require a multidisciplinary approach comprising of endodontic treatment, periodontal recontouring, and cosmetic composite restoration. ABSTRACT: The reported cases of supernumerary teeth fused to the labial surface of maxillary central incisors are rare. Such cases need multidisciplinary approaches. Herein, management of a supernumerary tooth fused to the labial surface of a maxillary central incisor is reported. Due to the presence of a communication path between

Supernumerary teeth in patients with cleft lip and palate: the tooth germs do not separate.

INTRODUCTION: Supernumerary teeth in cases of cleft lip and palate do not result from the division of normal germs before the formation of hard tissue. Deciduous and permanent teeth odontogenesis begins after the face has formed, either with or without the cleft. DISCUSSION: The most acceptable hypothesis to enable understanding of the presence of supernumerary teeth on one or both sides of the cleft palate is hyperactivity of the dental lamina in its walls. This hyperactivity, with the formation of more tooth germs, must be attributed to mediators and genes related to tooth formation, under
