AIM: This study describes the management of a replanted and endodontically treated avulsed permanent maxillary incisor tooth with 11 hours of extraoral time.
BACKGROUND: Avulsion is one of the most common and severe dental injuries occurring in young children and has an unreliable prognosis. Immediate avulsion treatment is essential to maintain the tooth's vitality and minimize complications. A successful outcome is determined by adequate preservation and early replantation.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A nine-year-old boy reported to the advanced dental care clinic with an avulsed tooth #21 due to a b

The present study deals with the morphometric changes in the loaded rat incisor and its supporting structures 3 months after load removal. The material examined was limited to that part of the tooth that is located between 8 and 20 mm from the tooth apex. Of the ten albino rats in whom laterointrusive loads (19 +/- 0.6 g) were applied to the lower left incisor for a period of 2 weeks, the rate of tooth eruption returned to normal in four animals (group A); in six rats, eruption remained grossly impaired (group B). These two groups were compared with a control group of four rats in whom the inc

BACKGROUND: Different clinical parameters have been advocated as potential predictors of alveolar and basal jawbone morphology. The aim of this study is to describe, by tomographic means, alveolar and basal osseous dimensions of the anterior mandible in healthy individuals and evaluate potential correlations with biotype, along with other clinical parameters.
METHODS: One hundred consecutive healthy patients needing surgery in the posterior mandible were enrolled in this observational study (group 1 = 50 patients with thin biotype; group 2 = 50 patients with thick biotype). Data were collecte

The clinical condition of a patient with chronic adult-type periodontal disease, as well as gingival recession reaching the tooth apex on a mandibular lateral incisor, is discussed. Because the use of conventional techniques would have resulted in tooth loss, the guided tissue regeneration procedure was applied, with successful results.

BACKGROUND Dental fusion is a developmental dental anomaly that clinicians must be aware of and able to identify. It results from the union of 2 adjacent tooth germs affecting the normal dentition and leads to a decrease in the number of permanent teeth. Clinically, the fused teeth show excessive width and irregular anatomy and can complicate any endodontic intervention. CASE REPORT A 26-year-old male patient presented to the clinic with severe pain related to the lower right mandibular area. The dental examination revealed a large tilted and irregular fused third molar with the fourth molar.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic tooth avulsion requires an urgent intervention to replant the tooth. Prolonged post-injury dry extra-oral conditions worsen the prognosis and increase the risk of root resorption. Fluoride has the potential to delay replacement resorption. Calcium silicate cements (CSC) are used to seal the root canal system and to stimulate periapical regeneration in immature open apex teeth (apexification). This report suggests the application of a novel fast-setting CSC with fluoride for apexification in an attempt to hinder root resorption.
CASE REPORT: A delayed replantation of an a

INTRODUCTION: Revitalization procedures have been widely used for the treatment of immature permanent teeth with apical periodontitis. The treatment procedures appear to be capable of encouraging continued root development and thickening of the canal walls. The nature of tissues formed in the canal space and at the root apex after revitalization has been shown histologically in several animal studies; similar studies in humans were recently reported.
METHODS: A 9-year-old boy had a traumatic injury to his upper anterior teeth. Tooth #9 suffered a complicated crown fracture with a pulp exposur

Hypodontia is commonly associated with cleft lip and/or palate and can be managed by autotransplantation of teeth. In this case report, autotransplantation of the immature mandibular right second premolar to replace the congenitally missing maxillary right second premolar was performed successfully in an 11-year-old Chinese male. An ectopic tooth resembling a premolar tooth was subsequently noted to be developing palatal to the root apex of the transplanted tooth one month after surgery. The development of a dental tooth germ at the site of the autotransplantation post-surgery is a possibility

A necrotic immature mandibular, canine tooth in a two year-old, male, intact Chow Chow was endodontically treated. This tooth had an open apex, wide root canal, thin dentinal walls, and there was periapical bone resorption. An apexification procedure was used to induce apical closure by calcified tissue formation, with resolution of the periapical inflammation.

OBJECTIVES: To assess and compare the accuracy of robot-assisted and dynamic navigation systems for dental implant placement in models with either a single missing tooth or multiple consecutive missing teeth at the distal extension.
METHODS: Thirty-two models and 86 implants were utilized. Implant placement was randomly assigned using either a robot-assisted or dynamic navigation system. The accuracy was evaluated by superimposing planned and actual implant positions. The primary study outcome was angular deviation, while secondary outcomes included three-dimensional deviations at the implant

Tooth luxations are relatively common. In case of concussion or subluxation the tooth is not displaced. The treatment will consist of relief of the tooth. Most frequent complications are pulp necrosis and obliteration of pulpal tissues. In case of extrusive luxation pulpal tissues and the periodontal ligament are injured. When tooth mobility is increased flexible splinting should be considered. Endodontic treatment is necessary after extrusive luxation of a tooth with completed root formation. Teeth with open apex often show pulpal obliteration after extensive luxation. Lateral luxation is mor

PURPOSE: To experimentally determine the effects of increased surgical trauma on the rates of tooth movement and apical root resorption. Two surgical techniques for rapid protraction of multi-rooted teeth in foxhound dogs immediately following premolar extraction were compared.
METHODS: Split-mouth design to randomly assign two surgical techniques [periodontal ligament distraction (RAP side) and a modified form of dentoalveolar distraction (RAP+ side)] to the maxillary quadrants. First premolars were extracted, and second premolars were protracted 0.5 mm per day for 15 days using a custom mad

This clinical article reports a technique, apicotomy, for managing dilacerated or ankylosed canines. The records of 3 patients successfully treated with apicotomy are presented. Orthodontists observe clinically significant incidences of impacted maxillary canines in their daily practices. Several procedures have been described to bring an ankylosed, impacted tooth into occlusion. Luxation is the most widely used solution, but there are risks involved with that approach, and the success rate is low. Surgical repositioning has also been used, but morbidity is high, and the aggressiveness of the

Traumatic injuries to permanent teeth include coronal and root fractures, subluxations, luxations, and avulsions. The most common complications after avulsions are necrosis of the pulp and root resorption. Treatment is often complex, time consuming, and expensive and requires multidisciplinary approaches such as endodontic and periodontal treatments, surgery, orthodontic movements, as well as esthetic coronal restoration. This review describes new clinical modalities for the treatment of avulsed teeth and discusses the rationale for their use.
