Structure and mechanical properties of the soft zone separating bulk dentin and enamel in crowns of human teeth: insight into tooth function.

The 200-300 microm soft zone of dentin, found beneath enamel in crowns of human teeth, is thought to fulfill important roles in tooth function, but little is known about its structure-mechanical relations. Scanning electron microscopy images of fracture surfaces showed that near the dentino-enamel junction (DEJ), a porous reticulate matrix of intertubular-dentin contains tubules with no peritubular lining. Peritubular-dentin however is found at some distance from the DEJ, and it gradually thickens with increasing depth into the bulk dentin. Concurrently, tighter packing of the collagen fibers

Absence of apical resorption during orthodontic treatment on a tooth with a complicated crown fracture and root canal treatment: a case report.

Root resorption often occurs after tooth trauma and may also occur during orthodontic tooth movement. This has been attributed to bacteria and inflammation or a combination of both aetiologies. The literature suggests that root canal treatment performed on a traumatized tooth that will concurrently or subsequently undergo orthodontic tooth movement may forestall the resorptive process. This case report provides evidence for this prevention and discusses the hypothesis for the absence of resorption on root-treated teeth.

Adjacent Implant Influence on Tooth Restoration in a Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Patient Using Monoblock Post-Fused Crown: A Case Report.

This case report explores how the presence of an adjacent implant influenced the restoration of a tooth with pulpitis in a gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) patient. A patient with GERD requires a tooth-colored crown not only for aesthetics but also to address potential galvanic concerns arising from an adjacent implant. GERD, a condition causing non-cavity erosion, weakens tooth structure over time, presenting significant challenges in treatment. It resulted in bite relapse and insufficient occlusal clarity over time. A comprehensive treatment approach was needed to restore both functio

Extraction and implant restoration of an inverted impacted anterior tooth with severe crown-root dilaceration: a 4-year follow-up case report.

BACKGROUND: Inverted impaction of anterior teeth with crown-root dilaceration is a rare and clinically challenging developmental anomaly. When orthodontic traction or autotransplantation fails to achieve satisfactory outcomes, extraction followed by implant restoration becomes the preferred treatment option. This approach, however, involves multiple challenges, including the extraction of the inverted impacted tooth, bone defect repair, and aesthetic reconstruction of the anterior dentition. CASE PRESENTATION: This single-case report details the treatment process of a 17-year-old patient with

Histopathologic Features of Pulp Following Uncomplicated Crown Fracture of an Immature Tooth With Concomitant Subluxation Seven Days After the Injury. A Case Report.

Reports on the histopathologic features of pulp tissue following traumatic injuries are scarce. The aim of the present clinical and histological report was to provide some novel insights about the histological condition of the pulp tissue of an immature permanent tooth, shortly after a combined injury of uncomplicated crown fracture with concomitant subluxation. A seven-year-old male patient presented with a localized buccal swelling apically on tooth #21 and with a radiographic app. One week earlier, the patient had suffered an uncomplicated crown fracture, and the referral dentist had solely

Partial tooth formation diagnosed eight years after an extraction of the maxillary third molar germ in a complete crown formation stadium: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic purposes, such as the prevention of anterior crowding, are common and controversial indications for surgical removal of the third molar (M3) germ in young patients. A higher tooth bud position and the risk of tooth displacement in the infratemporal fossa when surgery of the maxillary M3 germ is planned makes the success of germectomy unlikely with little benefit. A rare complication of maxillary M3 germ surgery is partial tooth building after germectomy. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 14-year-old patient who was referred for germectomy of the maxillary

Fully Automated Artificial Intelligence-Based Design Single Tooth-Supported Dental Crowns: A Systematic Review of Efficiency, Fit, and Morphological Accuracy.

Fully automated artificial intelligence (AI)-based dental crown design has recently emerged as an alternative to conventional workflows, including technician-assisted digital design and traditional wax-up techniques. However, the available evidence remains heterogeneous, and no clear consensus exists regarding its performance in terms of time efficiency, fit, and morphological accuracy. We aimed to systematically evaluate whether fully automated AI-based crown design provides comparable or superior outcomes compared with conventional approaches. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Syst
