Etched porcelain veneer restoration of a primary tooth: a clinical report.

The treatment of a retained primary tooth in the adult dentition has always been a difficult clinical problem. In the anterior region of the mouth, the problem is further complicated by esthetic requirements. In this clinical report, a primary canine was recontoured both incisally and interproximally with an etched porcelain veneer to provide an esthetic result. The use of etched porcelain as an indirect veneer material, which has demonstrated clinical success, is an alternative to the requirements of conservative dentistry, namely, preservation of tooth substance and safeguarding primary toot

Comparison of shear bond strengths with different bevel preparations for the reattachment of fractured fragments of maxillary central incisors.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Fractures of anterior teeth are a highly prevalent form of dental trauma. Among the various treatment options, reattachment of the fractured part to the remaining tooth has a lot of advantages. The aim of this study was to compare different bevel preparation techniques when reattaching fractured fragments to maxillary central incisors. METHODS: This study was performed on 52 maxillary central incisors that were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups and 1 control group. In the control group, the repair was done by attaching the fractured fragment using bonding and compos

Age estimation using tooth cementum annulation.

In Forensic Anthropology age diagnosis of unidentified bodies significantly helps in the identification process. Among the set of established aging methods in anthropology tooth cementum annulation (TCA) is increasingly used due to its narrow error range which can reach 5 years of age in adult individuals at best. The rhythm of cementum appositions of seasonally different density provides a principal mechanism on which TCA is based. Using histological preparation techniques for hard tissues, transversal tooth root sections are produced which can be analyzed in transmitted light microscopy. Eve

[Development of the autotransplantation technique: from freehand surgery to a digital 3D workflow].

Autotransplantation of teeth is an effective treatment option for tooth replacement, particularly in young patients. Traditionally, the recipient socket is prepared freehand by repeatedly fitting the donor tooth, which may result in prolonged extra-alveolar time and potential damage to the periodontal ligament. With the introduction of cone beam computed tomography imaging, digital planning and 3D printing technology, it has become possible to fabricate a patient-specific replica of the donor tooth. This allows the recipient socket to be prepared accurately, thus limiting intraoperative adjust

Dilaceration: review of an endodontic challenge.

Dilaceration is the result of a developmental anomaly in which there has been an abrupt change in the axial inclination between the crown and the root of a tooth, but the criteria in the literature for recognizing root dilaceration vary. Two possible causes of dilaceration are trauma and developmental disturbances, and it has also been proposed that it might be associated with some developmental syndromes. Dilaceration can be seen in both the permanent and deciduous dentitions, and it is more commonly found in posterior teeth and in the maxilla. Periapical radiographs are the most appropriate

Conservative Composite Resin Restoration for Proximal Caries - Two Case Reports.

The paradigms of contemporary caries management have shifted to minimal intervention dentistry. Conservative restorative procedures are recommended to replace the complete removal of all carious tissues in the management of dental caries. This article reports two clinical cases of conservative restorations of proximal caries. Different conservative cavity designs and restorative techniques were performed in the two cases. Proximal caries in posterior teeth were prepared using the box-only preparation technique or the proximal tunnel preparation technique. The cavities were restored directly wi

Pulp-dentin biology in restorative dentistry. Part 2: initial reactions to preparation of teeth for restorative procedures.

Pulpal complications involving inflammation, degradation, and necrosis are the result of a series of traumatic injuries. The restorative dentist must minimize the trauma to dentin and pulp inflicted during clinical procedures, including that inflicted during tooth preparation. Part 11 of this series discusses the structural and physiologic changes in the pulp-dentin complex that result from crown and cavity preparation and the clinical implication of these changes.

Metal tooth-like surgical templates for tooth autotransplantation in adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to suggest a way to fabricate surgical templates to assist the surgeon in preparing the recipient socket when performing premolar autotransplantation. METHODS: Premolars used previously for extractions of periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblasts were used in this study as archetype of models for tooth transplantation. Eighty-four mandibular and maxillary first and second extracted premolars were reviewed. All teeth were extracted for orthodontic reasons. From these teeth, eight teeth were selected to serve as archetype of models in which all the other teeth

Management of a transmigrated mandibular canine.

The purpose of this article is to report the management of a transmigrated mandibular canine with emphasis on saving the tooth as natural part rather than surgical removal of the transmigrated tooth. There are several treatment options proposed for impacted mandibular canines including surgical removal, exposure and orthodontic alignment, intra-alveolar tooth transplantation (surgical repositioning of a tooth in its alveolar socket) and observation. The technique, surgical repositioning of a tooth involves the surgical extraction of impacted tooth and fixation in the correct position in the de

Supernumerary tooth autotransplantation to replace missing maxillary central incisor using three-dimensional replica: A 6-year follow-up.

INTRODUCTION: Tooth autotransplantation is a viable surgical treatment option for patients with missing permanent teeth. Premolars are generally used for autotransplantation but often require extensive modifications. This case report evaluates the use of supernumerary tooth as an alternative option for premolar autotransplantation. This report shows successful supernumerary tooth autotransplantation with 6-year follow-up. METHODS: A 13-year-old male with non-contributory medical history was referred for a missing maxillary left central incisor (#9) and presence of a supernumerary tooth. The c

Surgical Alternative for Treatment of Vertical Root fracture: A Case Report.

Vertical root fracture (VRF) has been a great challenge in dentistry; most fractures often result in tooth extraction. Inflammation of tissues around the fractured root is the main reason for tooth extraction. Based on the strategic importance of some fractured teeth, treatment may be necessary and often complicated. However, performing a proper repair or even splinting the fractured segments may result in tooth preservation. Accordingly, in this case we report a new method for fractured tooth preservation. The surgical exposition of the fracture tooth was carried out through the radicular por
