Four categories of migration-endemic to nonendemic areas, rural to urban areas, non-MDA areas to areas that achieved lymphatic filariasis (LF) control/elimination, and across borders-are relevant to LF elimination efforts. BACKGROUND: Burkholderia pseudomallei, a Tier 1 Select Agent and the cause of melioidosis, is a Gram-negative bacillus present in the environment in many tropical countries. We studied the seasonal variation of hip fracture admissions at three different latitudes: Scotland (56 degrees North; 54,399 admissions); Shatin, Hong Kong (22 degrees North; 4180 admissions); and Auckland, New Zealand (36 degrees South; 2257 admissions). The modern treatment of hepato-pleural-pulmonary hydatidosis is based on surgical excision and medical treatment with drugs like: Mebendazol, Albendazol or Praziquantel. There are presented 23 patients with multiple hepato-pleuro-pulmonary hydatidosis, operated in the last 4 years. We conducted a survey of schistosomiasis among schoolchildren in 2 villages in Southern Sudan. In Lui (West Equatoria region), prevalence of Schistosoma mansoni infection was 51.5%; no cases of S. hematobium infection were detected. In Nyal (Upper Nile region), prevalence of S. hematobium infection was 73% and S. mansoni infection, 70%.
