In this manuscript, I describe my experience of the evolving place of teleanalysis in psychoanalytic practice and education, focusing on the central role of the analyst's internal frame in sustaining analytic work across settings. Drawing on clinical, supervisory, teaching, and personal analytic experience, I argue that the usefulness of psychoanalysis depends less on the external setting than on the analyst's capacity to function analytically in the face of absence, uncertainty, and loss. I suggest that a priori views of teleanalysis as "less real" or "less effective" often reflect defensive

MacWhinney's (1992) Competition Model proposes that L2 learners do not start from scratch but instead build on pre-existing L1 phonological, lexical, and syntactic representations. This approach eases the learning process yet leaves enduring traces from L1 transfer in the bilinguals' L2 lexicon, which may influence adult language processing. In this paper, we review psycholinguistic findings on bilingual comprehension and production and propose that many effects traditionally seen as evidence of on-line cross-language activation might instead reflect the long-term impact of L1 transfer during

OBJECTIVE: Aim: The aim of the paper was to compare the principles of music therapy and psychotherapy, pointing out numerous similarities and differences between these two techniques.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: Resistance is observed, as well as the phenomenon of transference and countertransference. In either method, the therapist is a covered therapeutic mirror for the patient/client. Music therapy, unlike psychotherapy, works almost exclusively on emotions and on the symbolic layer of expression of personality. In the case of music therapy, the verbal layer plays a less s

Individuals with dissociative identity disorder (DID) often report an inability to retrieve memories associated with other identities, termed inter-identity amnesia (IIA). Research investigating IIA has amassed, and interest surrounds whether objective deficits in retrieval mechanisms necessarily underlie the experience of IIA. This study conducted a systematic literature review with meta-analyses to examine current findings on IIA in DID. In particular, we explored whether DID patients' clinical reports of retrieval failure across identities were substantiated by controlled measures of memory

Engaging the silent adolescent is a major psychotherapeutic challenge. This article presents a comprehensive approach to this problem, illustrated with clinical material. This approach emphasizes a careful diagnostic assessment, including an assessment of the patient's level of personality organization and capacities to participate in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Three approaches to the silent teenager are explored in depth: a mostly supportive approach focused on containment of maladaptive behaviors; a psychodynamic approach with supportive elements focused on demonstrating safety through hum

BACKGROUND: Since its discovery in 1894 cross-education of strength - a bilateral adaptation after unilateral training - has been shown to be effective in the rehabilitation after one-sided orthopedic injuries. Limited knowledge exists on its application within the rehabilitation after stroke. This review examined the evidence regarding the implication of cross-education in the rehabilitation of the post-stroke hemiplegic patient and its role in motor function recovery.
METHODS: Electronic databases were searched by two independent assessors. Studies were included if they described interventi

The training of future psychologists requires pedagogical approaches that effectively bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the complex competencies demanded in professional practice with older adults. This study aimed to evaluate the educational impact of a narrative simulation with a standardized patient implemented in an undergraduate Aging Psychology course. A pilot mixed-methods design was conducted with 56 third-year psychology students. Quantitative data were collected through an ad hoc questionnaire assessing satisfaction, perceived usefulness, methodological design, and pro

The patient's productions are a dynamic record of the conflicts of the past as they are recapitulated and re-experienced in the present. Much can be learned by closely studying the immediate effect of the analyst's interventions. Interpretation, especially of transference phenomena, will upset the equilibrium which has been effected and will enable the patient to understand how unconscious fantasies from the past continue to influence his perception and reactions in the present. Interpretation is a continuing process, unfolding in logical sequence. Transference may be an expression of the pati

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the role played by psychological distress in the relation between personality dimensions and pregnancy outcome of women undergoing in vitro fertilization/Intra-Cytoplasmic Injections (IVF/ICSI) treatment. Method : This prospective cohort study was conducted for 12 months on 154 infertile women who were receiving IVF/ICSI assisted reproductive treatment for the first time. Research instruments for measuring psychological distress included the Fertility Problem Inventory (FPI) and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). One of these

This chapter repositions ideals away from their role as defensive structures restraining aggressive and lustful drives (as traditionally viewed) toward their place in shaping creativity and love. We select and mold our particular ideals in providing meaning and in this manner help to create those selfobjects needed to resolve or soothe our needs. This creative process may include "reshaping" of the available object to represent the "idealized other." From this perspective, Kohut's view of idealization and the idealized parental imago will be considered, including my own notion of a one-and-a-h

INTRODUCTION: Methadone-to-buprenorphine transfers (MBT) are increasingly common as buprenorphine use expands. Evidence describing patient experience of withdrawal during MBT in real-world populations is limited. This study aimed to characterise withdrawal trajectories during MBT and examine whether psychosocial and clinical factors influence the severity or timing of withdrawal.
METHODS: This analysis used data from a prospective, non-randomised clinical trial comparing low-dose and stop-and-start MBT techniques (n = 117). Covariates included methadone dose, duration on methadone, transfer s

Action-imagery is an internal simulation of sensory movement experiences in the absence of actual execution. Action-imagery practice (AIP), i.e. the repeated use of action-imagery has been shown to improve subsequent motor execution performance in many tasks. However, AIP is less effective than action-execution practice (AEP), particularly in motor tasks that involve few visuospatial components (e.g. spatial stimulus and response mappings). In such a task in AEP, the development of effector-dependent representations is expected, whereas effector-independent motor and visuospatial representatio

Addressing social enactments in group therapy requires integrating developmental theory with cultural identity dynamics. As social power dynamics emerge, the effectiveness of psychoanalytic group psychotherapy can be enhanced by modifying perspectives on transference, resistance, and the emotional transparency of the leader. This paper proposes theoretical and technical modifications to respond to repetitions of social inequities in the group process, including revised thinking about resistance analysis, the group agreement and the contact function. These changes aim to equip leaders to engage

This article presents how to apply psychodynamic theory of transference in the treatment of traumatized patients who have endured repeated early life trauma and a lack of relational safety. To make hypnosis safe, the author adapts her interventions to each patient's unique needs. Clinically relevant and experientially informed perspectives are provided, designed to support therapists in maintaining a safe hypnotic approach when patients relate to the therapist with negative transference, such as anger, hate, fear and distrust. In contrast to the popular focus on techniques, goals and treatment

Psychoanalysis is defined in this paper as a process that initiates in the analyst's mind with the framing of the patient's material in terms of transference and resistance. Once the analyst is able to do this, a first level of transformation of experience is effectuated that then must be consummated through interpretation to the patient of what is occurring in their mind as it is lived out in the experience with the analyst. For this author, Bion's model of container-contained complements Freud's transference and resistance model; it also offers an example to his thesis that only within a cle

Boundary violations occurring in corrections settings require special attention. There is a unique relationship between officers and inmates, governed by policies and procedures as well as ethics in general (e.g., the lack of ability for a person in a controlled environment to consent to a relationship due to power imbalance). Recent high-profile cases between corrections officers and inmates demonstrate the complexities inherent in these relationships. We examine several recent cases and offer analysis of the factors leading to these dangerous encounters. We discuss how a special relationship

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in the use of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (ET) in couples with infertility, recurrent implantation failure (RIF) after ET is still a major problem affecting women, with great psychological and economic burdens for the patient and his/her family.
AIM: To investigate the psychological burden (anxiety and depression) and evaluate the clinical benefits of endometrial receptivity testing (ERT) in patients experiencing RIF following frozen-thawed ET.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study analyzed 371 patients experiencing RIF after assisted reproductive trea

On the basis of the development in the course of analytic treatment of a young male patient in a state of hallucinatory terror, the author discusses in this paper the nature of the psychotic superego. He shows how the process of recomposition of the self after a psychotic breakdown involves the transition from a terrorising and destructuring type of superego to one more reminiscent of that seen in depressive illness. The author describes this process against the background of the variations in the auditory hallucinations that began during the analysis. In the first phase of the analysis the pa
