[Transurethral Resection of Necrotic Tissue in the Bladder Caused by Emphysematous Cystitis].

Emphysematous cystitis is a relatively rare form of urinary tract infection. A 72-year-old man with diabetes mellitus and long-term indwelling urethral catheterization was diagnosed with emphysematous cystitis. The clinical findings were resolved by conservatively managing the patient with antibiotics. However, cystoscopy subsequently revealed a yellowish-white soft tissue mass in the bladder, which was unlikely to be a bladder tumor. The mass could not be removed easily and frequently caused urinary catheter obstruction. We successfully removed this mass by performing transurethral resection

Organ preservation for muscle-invasive bladder cancer by transurethral resection.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the feasibility of bladder preservation using transurethral resection for patients with muscle-invasive cancer and to determine the proportion of patients with muscle-invasive disease who would be eligible for this approach. METHODS: A retrospective review demonstrated that 327 patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer were treated in our institution from 1997 to 2002. Resection was repeated in all patients, and bladder preservation was offered to patients with no residual tumor, normal examination findings under anesthesia, and normal upper urinary tract findings.

[Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder treated by transurethral resection: a case report].

A 59-year-old woman with complaints of pollakisuria and dysuria, was referred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imageing (MRI) revealed a tumor, about 59 mm in diameter. Cystoscopy showed a submucosal tumor covered with a normal mucosa. Histological diagnosis was leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral biopsy. So we performed complete resection of the tumor. To our knowledge, 30 cases of leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral resection have been reported in the Japanese literature.

Treatment of Low-grade Intermediate-risk Nonmuscle-invasive Bladder Cancer With UGN-102 ± Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor Compared to Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor Monotherapy: A Randomized, Controlled, Phase 3 Trial (ATLAS).

PURPOSE: Low-grade intermediate-risk nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer is a chronic illness commonly treated by repetitive transurethral resection of bladder tumor. We compared the efficacy and safety of intravesical chemoablation with UGN-102 (a reverse thermal gel containing mitomycin), with or without subsequent transurethral resection of bladder tumor, to transurethral resection of bladder tumor alone in patients with low-grade intermediate-risk nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective, randomized, phase 3 trial recruited patients with new or recurrent lo

Restage Transurethral Resection in the Evaluation of T1 High-Grade Bladder Tumor.

BACKGROUND: A considerable proportion of patients with T1 high-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) advance to muscle-invasive disease, and the disease has a high rate of recurrence. Numerous approaches have been proposed in the literature to mitigate the consequences of the initial transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT). We aimed to evaluate the T1 high-grade bladder tumor by restaging transurethral resection. METHODS: This was a descriptive observational study conducted in the Department of Urology, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet, from August 2023

Efficacy analysis of transurethral en bloc resection for bladder tumors ≥3 cm.

BACKGROUND: En bloc resection of bladder tumors (ERBT) is a surgical treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). However, data on the efficacy and safety of ERBT for tumors ≥3 cm are limited. This study aimed to investigate the technical characteristics and clinical application of β-electrode ERBT in the treatment of bladder tumors ≥3 cm and analyze its feasibility and short-term safety. METHODS: Retrospective data were collected from patients with bladder cancer (BC) who underwent β-electrode ERBT between 2021 and 2024. Surgical Procedure: A mark was made 0.5 cm from the tumor

A re-staging transurethral resection predicts early progression of superficial bladder cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether pathology on a re-staging transurethral resection (TUR) predicts the early progression of superficial bladder cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In all, 710 patients presenting with multiple superficial bladder cancers were evaluated by re-staging TUR and followed for 5 years. Tumours were classified by stage as confined to mucosa (Ta) or invading submucosa (T1), and by grade (low- or high-grade). Pathology on re-staging TUR was correlated with the endpoints of tumour recurrence and stage progression. RESULTS: Of the 710 patients, 490 (69%) had a recurrence and 149

Risk factors for bladder neck contracture after transurethral resection of the prostate.

INTRODUCTION: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the most frequently used treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia with a prostate volume of <80 mL. A long-term complication is bladder neck contracture (BNC). The aim of the present study was to identify the risk factors for BNC formation after TURP. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all TURP primary procedures which were performed at one academic institution between 2013 and 2018. All patients were analyzed and compared with regard to postoperative formation of a BNC requiring further therapy. Uni- and multivari

Observation and mechanism study of bladder wound healing after transurethral holmium laser resection of bladder tumor.

This research aims to observe and compare the wound healing process of urethral bladder after transurethral holmium laser resection of bladder tumor (HoLRBT) and transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and explore the possible mechanism of wound healing and bladder re-epithelialization after HoLRBT. An animal model of canine achieving HoLRBT and TURBT was established. Cystoscopy was performed at different time points (3 days and 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks) after operation to observe the wound healing and re-epithelialization of bladder epithelium. Bladder mucosa specimens were obtained and

Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumors: Evolving Standards of Care-Optimizing Resection, Staging Accuracy, and Recurrence Reduction.

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) remains the foundation of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) diagnosis and treatment. The article covers preop evaluation (history, imaging, vesical imaging-reporting and data system, multiparametric MRI, office cystoscopy, and biomarkers), anesthesia/energy choices to limit obturator reflex/perforation, and operative technique using enhanced cystoscopy and selective en bloc resection (EBRT). It stresses meticulous specimen handling, immediate use of intravesical chemotherapy, and indications for second-look TURBT. Despite progress, incom

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy With Transurethral Resection for Bladder Preservation: 15-Year Follow-Up of the Retained Bladder.

PURPOSE: Bladder preservation is a desired goal for most patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, although select few are ideal candidates based on established criteria. Heterogenous cohorts with short follow-up hinder assessment of true risks/benefits for ideal candidates. We describe long-term outcomes in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, meeting established ideal criteria for bladder preservation, treated initially with systemic therapy and transurethral resection (TUR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted an institutional retrospective review of 101 prospectively monitore

Transurethral lidocaine (100 mg) bladder irrigation (TULI100) reduces the incidence of catheter related bladder discomfort in transurethral resection of bladder tumors: A randomized, double blind, controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) surgeries requires post-resection catheterization for continuous irrigation of the bladder. This indwelling catheter is associated with distressing catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) and increases postoperative pain and agitation. OBJECTIVES: To prove the hypothesis that transurethral 100 mg lidocaine irrigation at the end of TURBT can reduce the frequency of moderate-to-severe postoperative CRBD. METHODS: 116 patients scheduled for TURBT were screened, 94 were recruited and completed the study. American Society of Anesthe
