Urinary bladder and the rectum share a common embryological origin, and the anatomical proximity of these two organs suggest that a dysfunction in either may influence the function of the other. Although, the coexistence of bladder and bowel dysfunction has been previously reported in the literature, there are hardly any reports on coexistence of posterior urethral valve (PUV) with Hirschsprung's disease. Here, we report a case of a 20-month-old male child who was initially treated for PUV and was later found to have coexisting Hirschsprung's disease.

Following failed endoscopic intervention, the most cost-effective strategy for recurrent urethral stricture disease (USD) is urethroplasty. Inpatient hospital costs associated with urethroplasty are driven by patient comorbidities and postoperative complications. Symptom-based surveillance for USD recurrence will reduce unnecessary diagnostic procedures and cost.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: the experience of the Hospital del Trabajador in Santiago de Chile regarding its different surgical approaches, as well as scientific literature on the topic, were reviewed.
RESULTS: traditionally, anterior urethral stricture has been treated using minimally invasive techniques (dilatation and internal urethrotomy), which are unable to cure more than 30-35% of patients.

Pre- and postoperative UF studies of men found to have cystoscopic recurrence were compared to UF studies from successful repairs.
