In a prospective study comprising 29 patients the authors analyzed comprehensively subjective complaints of prostatism using the score of prostatic symptoms (PSS) with the objective urodynamic finding (uroflowmetry, cystometry, pressure flow measurement) in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. The Boyarsky and Madsen-Iversen PSS did not correlate with the infravesical obstruction assessed by the pressure flow measurements. The purpose of urodynamic testing is to measure and record pertinent physiologic variables while the patient is experiencing his usual symptoms. When the symptoms are reproduced, urodynamic findings enable the clinician to understand the underlying pathophysiology and to treat the patient effectively. Although at present it is most cost-effective to screen patients with cystometry and uroflow, multi-channel studies offer the most precise, artifact-free means of establishing the correct diagnosis.

We compared urodynamic findings and results of lateral cystourethrography in 82 patients with incontinence. The aim of the study was to establish a possible correlation between anatomic findings and functional results. The cystometrograms of 61 patients with a history of stress incontinence and no other urinary symptoms were evaluated. Of the sixty-one patients, seven had unstable bladders and in seven of the patients stress incontinence could not be demonstrated. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the value of performing urodynamic investigations in the assessment of women with a history of pure stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
