Plasma Cell-Rich Lymphoid Neoplasm in an Endocervical Polyp of the Uterine Cervix in a Perimenopausal 52-Year-Old Woman.

BACKGROUND: The adaptive immune system consists of T and B lymphocytes, with some B lymphocytes further differentiating into plasma cells that secrete antibodies and make up the humoral immune system. Extramedullary plasmacytoma, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, and plasmablastic lymphoma are all plasma cell-rich lymphoid neoplasms that rarely present in the female genital tract. To date, few case reports of these malignancies arising within the uterine cervix exist. CASE PRESENTATION: This case report describes a 52-year-old perimenopausal woman who presented to her primary

Malignant mesonephric neoplasms of the uterine cervix. A report of eight cases, including four with a malignant spindle cell component.

Eight mesonephric adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix, four of which had a malignant spindle-cell component, occurred in women aged 34 to 71 (median 43, mean 54.5) years, bringing to 14 the number of cervical mesonephric carcinomas in the literature. The tumors with a malignant spindle-cell component ("malignant mesonephric mixed tumors") are, with one possible exception, the first reported examples at this site. The patients, almost all of whom presented with vaginal bleeding, underwent hysterectomy; five also had a pelvic lymph node dissection. The tumors were all stage IB, although micros

Minimal-deviation endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix. A report of five cases of a distinctive neoplasm that may be misinterpreted as benign.

We describe five cervical adenocarcinomas with unusual, deceptively benign histological features that occurred in women 34 to 42 years of age and caused problems in interpretation. The tumors were incidental findings in hysterectomy or cone-biopsy specimens in four patients; the fifth patient was investigated because abnormal glandular cells were found on a Papanicolaou smear. One patient had been exposed in utero to diethylstilbestrol. The cervix is known to have been abnormal on gross evaluation in only one case. Microscopic examination disclosed a deceptively benign-appearing proliferation

S100 and CD34 positive spindle cell tumors of the uterine cervix with EGFR mutation: a hitherto unrecognized neoplasm phenotypically and epigenetically overlapping with "NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasms" of the uterus.

NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasm represents an emerging entity included in the latest 5th edition of WHO classification of both soft tissue and female genital tumors. By immunohistochemistry, they are commonly positive for CD34, S100 protein, and CD30 and typically harbor fusions of kinase genes such as NTRK1/2/3, RET, and BRAF. In the gynecological tract, they typically affect the uterine cervix or uterine body. Most of the reported cases had fibrosarcoma-like morphology, occasionally showing perivascular and stromal hyalinization with only a few cases showing a less cellular spindle cel

HMGI(Y) expression in human uterine leiomyomata. Involvement of another high-mobility group architectural factor in a benign neoplasm.

Chromosomal rearrangements involving 6p21 have been observed in uterine leiomyomata and a variety of other benign tumors. The gene for HMGI(Y), a member of the high-mobility group (HMG) family of proteins, has been localized to 6p21. To determine whether rearrangements observed in this area alter HMGI(Y) expression, we analyzed HMGI(Y) DNA-binding activity in protein extracts from uterine leiomyoma and normal myometrium tissues. This report describes a uterine leiomyoma specimen with an inv(6)(p21q15). A genomic P1 clone that contains the HMGI(Y) region of chromosome 6 is found to span the inv

Clinicopathologic characteristics of uterine malignant epithelioid neoplasms with EWSR1::CREM fusion: Report of 2 cases at a novel site with literature review.

The EWSR1/FUS::CREB fusion has been increasingly recognized in several histologically and phenotypically dissimilar neoplasms, ranging from low-grade to malignant tumors. However, a group of malignant epithelioid tumors harboring EWSR1/FUS::CREB fusions has been reported as a distinct tumor type that does not fit within well-defined entities. Herein, we report two cases occurring in the uterus with multiple metastatic nodules in the abdomen and pelvis. Morphologically, these tumors showed uniform, medium-sized epithelioid cells with eosinophilic or clear cytoplasm. Keratin AE1/AE3 or epithelia

Bromoethane, chloroethane and ethylene oxide induced uterine neoplasms in B6C3F1 mice from 2-year NTP inhalation bioassays: pathology and incidence data revisited.

Chloroethane, bromoethane and ethylene oxide represent a unique set of chemicals that induce endometrial neoplasms in the uterus of B6C3F1 mice following an inhalation route of exposure. The results of the NTP's chronic bioassays with these three compounds resulted in an unusually high incidence of uterine epithelial neoplasms in B6C3F1 mice (chloroethane 86%, bromoethane 56%) and a lower incidence for ethylene oxide (10%). The uterine neoplasms were classified as adenomas, adenocarcinomas, and squamous cell carcinomas for bromoethane, and as adenocarcinomas for both chloroethane and ethylene

Simultaneous squamous cell carcinomas of the uterine cervix and upper genital tract: loss of heterozygosity analysis demonstrates clonal neoplasms of cervical origin.

Five cases of cervical squamous cell carcinoma with synchronous superficial squamous cell carcinoma in the upper genital tract were genetically analyzed to demonstrate the possibility of a clonal neoplastic process. In these cases, the cervical lesions were squamous cell carcinoma in situ (cases 1, 2, and 3) and invasive squamous cell carcinoma (cases 4 and 5). Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) analyses with a panel of microsatellite markers revealed a monoclonal process in four of the five cases. Homogeneous LOH throughout the microdissected lesions was most frequently detected on 6p and 6q (3 cas

ESR1::NCOA2/3 fusions in uterine neoplasms with adenosarcoma-like morphology: clinicopathologic and molecular features of 12 cases and review of the literature.

The molecular pathogenesis of uterine adenosarcoma (uAS; synonym: Müllerian adenosarcoma) is confounded by its pathologic heterogeneity, with DICER1 mutations and TP53 pathway alterations reported in most tumors with high-grade morphology, stromal overgrowth and/ or rhabdomyoblastic differentiation. However, a small subset of tumors harbor gene fusions, but their molecular spectrum and clinicopathological correlations have not been defined. We identified 12 uAS-like neoplasms in our files carrying ESR1 gene fusions and reviewed 4 previously reported cases (total: 16). Patient's age range was 3

SMARCA4 / BRG1 -deficient Uterine Neoplasm With Hybrid Adenosarcoma and Carcinoma Features: Expanding the Molecular-morphologic Spectrum of SMARCA4 -driven Gynecologic Malignancies.

SMARCA4 gene encodes BRG1 , a member of the SWItch/sucrose non-fermentable protein family involved in epigenetic transcriptional regulation of important cellular processes. In the uterine corpus, SMARCA4 / BRG1 deficiency is associated with a novel class of undifferentiated uterine sarcomas, characterized by younger age onset, rhabdoid histology, focal phyllodiform architecture, high-risk pathologic findings, and dismal prognosis. Herein, we report a case of a 34-year-old Asian woman with a SMARCA4 / BRG1 -deficient uterine tumor fulfilling the clinicopathologic features of an undifferentiated

"Pseudomyxoma Endometrii": Endometrial Deposition of Acellular Mucin from a Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm as a Rare Mimic of Myxoid Uterine Tumors.

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs) are commonly associated with deposition of mucin, with or without admixed low-grade epithelium, on peritoneal surfaces (pseudomyxoma peritonei). We describe a very rare presentation of LAMN as extensive mucin deposition in the endometrium of a 43-yr-old woman initially mistaken for a primary uterine myxoid neoplasm. The patient underwent endometrial curettage that demonstrated abundant myxoid/mucoid material interspersed with small vessels, bland eosinophilic spindled cells, scattered foci of typical endometrial stroma, and occasional endometrio

Myxoid Leiomyosarcoma of the Uterus: A Clinicopathologic Analysis of 30 Cases and Review of the Literature With Reappraisal of Its Distinction From Other Uterine Myxoid Mesenchymal Neoplasms.

Myxoid leiomyosarcoma (mLMS) of the uterus is a rare neoplasm; thus, knowledge of its clinical behavior and morphology remains limited. We therefore reviewed 30 cases initially diagnosed as uterine mLMS to better characterize its clinicopathologic features. Diagnosis was confirmed in 25 subjects (average age 51.5 y), of whom 80% were stage 1 at presentation. The average tumor size was 10.8 cm. An infiltrative tumor border was observed microscopically in 24 cases (96%); the border in 1 case could not be assessed. Fourteen cases (56%) had >10 mitoses per 10 high-power fields, 8 (32%) had between

Composite uterine neoplasm with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumor components: rhabdomyosarcoma with divergent differentiation, variant of primitive neuroectodermal tumor, or unique entity?

Three cases of composite uterine neoplasms comprised of primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) and rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) have previously been described, including only one wherein the rhabdomyosarcomatous component was of the embryonal subtype. Whether such composite neoplasms are a variant of RMS, a variant of PNET, or a unique entity is unknown. We report the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular cytogenetic findings in a case of uterine embryonal RMS with coexisting PNET that was diagnosed in a 25-year-old female. The tumor broadly involved the cervix and corpus uteri and r

Mesonephric adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix and corpus: HPV-negative neoplasms that are commonly PAX8, CA125, and HMGA2 positive and that may be immunoreactive with TTF1 and hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-β.

Mesonephric adenocarcinomas are rare neoplasms that most commonly arise in the uterine cervix and exceptionally rarely in the uterine corpus. Although the morphologic features of these neoplasms are well described, there has been relatively limited investigation of the immunoprofile. We report a series of 8 mesonephric adenocarcinomas arising in the uterine cervix (7 cases) and corpus (1 case) and undertake a comprehensive immunohistochemical analysis. This includes markers that have not been investigated previously in mesonephric adenocarcinomas but that are commonly used in gynecologic patho

MR imaging of the uterine cervix: imaging-pathologic correlation.

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is useful not only for preoperative staging of gynecologic malignancies but also for prediction of the histopathologic features of a variety of intrapelvic tumors. Familiarity with the specific imaging findings that have been reported for the uterine cervix is a goal of radiologists. The typical MR imaging findings of uterine cervical lesions correspond to the histopathologic features. These lesions can be categorized as epithelial neoplasms, nonepithelial neoplasms, and nonneoplastic diseases. Cervical carcinoma accounts for most cases of malignant lesions and

Osteosarcoma of the uterine cervix associated with hyperplastic and atypical mesonephric rests.

The authors describe a unique case of osteosarcoma associated with atypical mesonephric rests occurring in the right lateral wall of the uterine cervix. The tumor was examined histologically, cytologically, immunohistochemically, and ultrastructurally and was compared with another osteosarcoma that filled an entire uterine cavity. Comparison with other neoplasms of the uterine cervix indicates that the lesion should be classified separately. Previously reported neoplasms associated with mesonephric rests within the cervix are also reviewed.
