A remaining uncertainty in the U.S. cohort study of man-made vitreous fiber (MMVF) workers is whether asbestos exposure contributed to 10 questionable cases of mesothelioma. We report further details on one case from our previous mesothelioma investigation, including results of a recent lung tissue analysis. Case is a 68 year-old white male employed 1951-54 in a rock/slag wool plant where asbestos-containing products were manufactured. We have reviewed the clinical and pathologic findings of 25 patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) who had a complete post-mortem examination including a study of the nervous system and of one or both eyes. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis was the most frequent type of ocular infection observed fundoscopically (9 of 18 cases examined clinically). Data from a case-control study conducted at 27 hospitals in France in 1986-88 were analyzed to examine the association between exposure to textile dust and sinonasal cancer. The study included 207 cases and 409 controls. Detailed information on occupational history and other potential risk factors for sinonasal cancer was collected.
