Effects of different amylose/amylopectin ratio combination diets in the early and late stages on growth performance and dynamic changes of glycolipid metabolism of growing geese.

This study evaluated the effects of varying dietary amylose/amylopectin ratios (AR) during starter (1-28 d) and grower (29-63 d) phases on growth performance, nutrient metabolism, and related molecular mechanisms in Jiangnan White geese. A total of 330 one-day-old male goslings were allocated to six groups in a 2 × 3 factorial design: two starter AR diets (0.34 or 0.46) and three grower AR diets (0.34, 0.46, or 0.58). The results showed that serum glucose increased post-prandially across all groups, with an increase at 120 min in the AR0.34/0.34 group (P < 0.05). Triglycerides (TG) decreased p

The IL-17 level in gingival crevicular fluid as an indicator of orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption.

PURPOSE: Interleukin (IL)-17 expression in the periodontal ligament is associated with orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR). Seeking a convenient, rapid, and non-invasive IL-17 detection approach could help predict OIIRR. In this study, we assessed the potential of the IL-17 level in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) to be an indicator of OIIRR. METHODS: To enable tooth movement, 8‑ to 10-week-old male Wistar rats were subjected to 20 g/60 g orthodontic force for up to 14 days. GCF and peripheral blood were collected for the IL-17 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA

Therapeutic Actions of Hepatocyte Extracellular Vesicles in a Murine Model of Diet-Induced Steatohepatitis with Fibrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a leading cause of liver failure globally and is characterized by hepatic steatosis and inflammation, which may progress to fibrosis, the severity of which is highly predictive of patient demise and death. In view of the lack of treatment options for MASH, we investigated the therapeutic properties of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from normal human hepatocytes, which we have previously been shown to alleviate toxin-mediated hepatic fibrosis in mice. METHODS: C57BI/6J mice were fed a choline-deficient amino acid-defined hi

The Dynamic Expression Changes of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Mouse Apical Periodontitis: A Potential Correlation With IL-17.

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) consist of decondensed chromatin and antimicrobial proteins, which are released from neutrophils and have been implicated in several inflammatory diseases. NETs and interleukin (IL)-17 constitute a feed-forward loop that promotes immunopathological development of inflammation. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the dynamic distribution of NETs and their colocalization with IL-17 during the progression of apical periodontitis in established mouse models. Apical periodontitis was induced in mice by exposing the pulp of the mandibular first molars, wi

Exploring the Reactions Induced by Bioactive Glass Air Abrasion of Titanium and Their Effects on Osteoblast Cellular Responses.

This study investigated the chemical events that occur when titanium (Ti) surfaces are treated with air particle abrasion (APA) using zinc-containing bioactive glass (ZnBG), followed by immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) for up to 96 h. The impact of these changes on osteoblast cell viability, adhesion, and differentiation was evaluated. Sandblasted and acid-etched (SA) Ti disks were subjected to APA with ZnBG particles and then immersed in SBF from 8 to 96 h. Ion dissolution and characterization of ZnBG powder and Ti disks were conducted. Analyses of osteoblast viability, adhesion, and a

Tetrahedral DNA Framework-Engineered Magnetic Nanozyme for Visual Biomarker Sensing via Alkaline Phosphatase-Triggered Signal Switching.

Point-of-care (POC) detection of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is critical for the early screening and monitoring of prostate cancer (PCa), which facilitates timely intervention and personalized treatment. However, existing POC platforms suffer from inadequate detection sensitivities, susceptibility to matrix interference, and complex sample pretreatment. To address these issues, we proposed a naked-eye and colorimetric sensing platform based on magnetic nanozyme (Fe3O4@ZIF-67@Pt) integrated with a tetrahedral DNA framework (TDF) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)-triggered hydrolysis reaction f

Effects of γ-PGA application on soil physical and chemical properties, rhizosphere microbial community structure and metabolic function of urban abandoned land.

INTRODUCTION: China's rapid urbanization has led to the conversion of extensive farmland on urban fringes into non-grain uses, exacerbating the scarcity of arable land resources. Reclaiming these abandoned or underutilized areas presents a viable solution. However, many of these lands are contaminated with construction debris and have uneven soil quality, rendering them unsuitable for crop cultivation. This study aims to investigate the effects of γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) on improving such soils. METHODS: A 6-month field experiment was conducted on green spaces with mixed construction wast

Investigating the role of complement 5a in systemic bone loss after myocardial infarction.

Myocardial infarction (MI) and osteoporotic fracture are two of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. We have previously established that MI in mice directly causes post-traumatic systemic bone loss and that the sympathetic nervous system plays a role in this response. However, the systemic injury response is mediated by multiple systems. In this study, we investigated the role of complement 5a (C5a), one of the main mediators driving multiple organ dysfunction after trauma. MI was surgically induced in 12-week-old male C57BL/6 J mice (B6/J), C5a receptor 1 knockout mice (C5

Alcohol-induced bone loss driven by dysregulated spatial distribution of gut microbiota and PGD2-IL17 pathway-mediated osteoclast activation.

INTRODUCTION: Alcohol-induced damage to bone microstructure leads to alcoholic osteoporosis (AOP). While prior studies have demonstrated alcohol's negative impact on bone density, the mechanisms by which alcohol induces osteoporosis through immune pathways, gut microbiota dysbiosis, and metabolic alterations remain insufficiently characterized. Given that alcohol is primarily absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract, in this research, we aimed to elucidate the role of spatial distribution disorders in gut microbiota and metabolites in the pathogenesis of alcohol-induced osteoporosis. We fu

Do non-bone metabolism laboratory indicators differ between men and women with osteoporosis?: A retrospective study based on physical examination data.

With the global population aging, osteoporosis has emerged as a significant health concern worldwide. Osteoporotic fractures predominantly occur in the forearm, hip, and lumbar spine, and are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Osteoporosis is a multifactorial disease, and prior research has identified several clinical risk factors, including advanced age, gender, weight, history of fractures, smoking, alcohol abuse, and corticosteroid use. To ascertain whether non-bone metabolic laboratory indicators associated with osteoporosis vary by gender, this study aims to enhance indi

Up-regulation of peripheral and central CGRP expression combined with subchondral bone remodeling in rat MIA-induced TMJOA model.

BACKGROUND: Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) is a pathological condition marked by subchondral bone remodeling. Osteoarthritis can lead to TMJ pain, nevertheless, the relationship between nociceptive mechanisms and subchondral bone in TMJOA still unclear. METHODS: In the present investigation, a rat TMJOA model was established via intra-articular administration of monosodium iodoacetate (MIA). Following the induction of MIA-triggered TMJOA, tissue samples were collected from the TMJ condyle, trigeminal system components including ganglion (TG) and nucleus caudalis (TNC), and hip

Mesenchymal stem cells delivered via a bioactive disordered peptide-hydrogel platform modulate early inflammation and enhance skeletal repair in a polytrauma model.

Over 30% of polytrauma patients with bone fractures suffer from impaired healing and nonunion due to persistent systemic inflammation. Existing biologic strategies for bone repair primarily focus on osteogenesis but are not designed to modulate systemic immune dysregulation, limiting their utility in the polytrauma setting. To overcome this, we developed a hyaluronic acid-based hydrogel (HA) incorporating osteogenic intrinsically disordered peptides (P2) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to promote bone regeneration and modulate inflammation simultaneously. MSCs entrapped in hydrogels containi
