Immunodetection of proteins in ancient paint media.

Diagnostic immunology is a powerful tool, widely used in clinical and biochemical laboratories for detecting molecules. In recent years, the technique has been adapted to materials sciences as a result of the extensive advances achieved in immunology. Today, many companies supply custom antibodies as well as new high-performance bioprobes for virtually any use. The idea of using immunodetection in the field of conservation science is not new. This analytical methodology is, in fact, particularly attractive for investigating biopolymers in painting materials; it is highly sensitive and selectiv

Review of chamber design requirements for testing of personal protective clothing ensembles.

This review focuses on the physical requirements for conducting ensemble testing and describes the salient issues that organizations involved in the design, test, or certification of personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective clothing ensembles need to consider for strategic planning. Several current and proposed PPE ensemble test practices and standards were identified. The man-in-simulant test (MIST) is the primary procedure used by the military to evaluate clothing ensembles for protection against chemical and biological warfare agents. MIST has been incorporated into the current ed

Multifocal ground-glass opacities in lung cancer: a narrative review of genomic evolution, immune ecology, and biology-informed clinical management.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Ground-glass opacity (GGO) is a computed tomography descriptor rather than a histologic diagnosis. Multifocal GGOs (mGGOs) are increasingly detected during lung cancer screening, yet their clonal origins, immune ecology, progression risk, and optimal management remain difficult to reconcile within conventional lung cancer frameworks. This narrative review evaluates genomic, immunologic, and clinical evidence relevant to mGGOs and examines how biological findings may inform surveillance and local treatment without encouraging overtreatment. METHODS: PubMed/MEDLINE, We

Neuro-Emotional Technique and Memory Reconsolidation: A Narrative Review and Conceptual Framework for Somatic-Emotional Updating.

Neuro-emotional technique (NET) is a structured mind-body intervention used by certified practitioners to identify and address stress-related emotional patterns associated with physiological and behavioural responses. Published NET research has described changes in psychological symptoms, pain, quality of life, brain physiology, inflammatory markers, and blood chemistry, yet the mechanisms underlying these effects remain incompletely defined. This narrative review and conceptual synthesis propose that memory reconsolidation theory and predictive processing provide complementary frameworks for

Sex and regional effects of Bacteroides in the gut.

UNLABELLED: Bacteroides spp. are a key immune-programming microbe in healthy individuals-these bacteria have been shown to be reduced in abundance across a variety of disease states. Our study investigated the systemic and region-specific responses to Bacteroides colonization in the gut, including sex-related differences, in mice. Utilizing C57BL/6 mice, we administered Bacteroides to conventional, antibiotic-treated mice, then assessed this microbe's influence on the gut microbiota composition and inflammatory responses following an airway lipopolysaccharide challenge to assess effects on the

Distinct Internalization, Acoustic Behavior and Stress Responses to Nanobubbles in Pancreatic Cancer Cells.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal cancers, characterized by an extremely low survival rate once diagnosed. Over 90% of cases harbor activating KRAS mutations, which are associated with metabolic reprogramming and altered endocytic activity. New treatment modalities are urgently needed. Phospholipid-shelled, gas-filled nanobubbles (NBs) are promising ultrasound (US) contrast agents and drug delivery vehicles, with potential applications in pancreatic cancer. However, their mechanisms of cellular internalization and the resulting biological responses need to be be

Pre-existing iron deficiency anemia and long-term risk of recurrent acute kidney injury in survivors of ICU-associated AKI: a propensity-matched study.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent acute kidney injury (rAKI) is a common complication among critically ill patients and is associated with progressive renal deterioration and increased long-term morbidity. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) may compromise renal adaptive responses through impaired oxygen delivery and cellular energetics; however, whether pre-existing IDA is associated with rAKI risk remains unclear. METHODS: We conducted a propensity score-matched retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX database (2010-2024). Adults with AKI during intensive care unit admission were stratified by pre-existi

Carbonic anhydrases contribute to mitochondrial function, conidial development, and pathogenicity of Magnaporthe oryzae.

Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are metalloenzymes widely present in biological systems, capable of catalyzing the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) to form bicarbonate (HCO3⁻) and protons (H+). This biochemical reaction plays a crucial role in various physiological processes. Previous studies have shown that MoCA1, a carbonic anhydrase in Magnaporthe oryzae, is localized in the mitochondria and is involved in conidial development and pathogenicity. However, the functions of other carbonic anhydrases in M. oryzae, such as MoCA2, MoCA4, and MoCA6, remain largely unexplored. Through subcell

DTCR: generating realistic, diverse, and epitope-specific T cell receptor sequences via a discrete diffusion model.

T lymphocytes are central to adaptive immunity, utilizing clonally distributed T cell receptors (TCRs) to recognize peptide-major histocompatibility complex ligands with high specificity. The immense diversity and precise antigen recognition of TCRs are critical for mounting effective immune responses. However, conventional experimental approaches for TCR discovery and optimization remain constrained by a narrow range of targetable epitopes, tumor immune evasion, and prohibitive costs. These bottlenecks hinder the broad clinical translation of TCR-T immunotherapies and create an urgent demand

Growth Factor Signaling in Solid Organ Transplantation: A Conceptual Framework for Chronic Remodeling and Survival.

Long-term survival after solid organ transplantation remains limited by chronic remodeling, fibrosis, vascular complications, and malignancy despite advances in immunosuppressive therapy. Current monitoring strategies primarily rely on functional and immunological parameters that often identify complications only after irreversible injury has occurred. There is a critical need for earlier, mechanistically informative biomarkers that can predict survival outcomes. Many platelet-associated growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF, and IGF-1) are stored in platelet α-granules but can also originate

A53-Adapted Decitabine-Containing R-CHOP in Newly Diagnosed Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma Defined by LymphGen: Preliminary Results of a Prospective Proof-of-Concept Study.

Background: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with TP53 abnormalities, corresponding to the LymphGen A53 molecular subtype, represents a biologically high-risk group associated with primary resistance to standard R-CHOP therapy. Epigenetic sensitization using hypomethylating agents may enhance chemosensitivity in this setting. We prospectively evaluated the clinical activity and safety of a molecularly adapted DAC-R-CHOP regimen in newly diagnosed A53-DLBCL. Methods: In this single-center prospective pilot cohort study, 70 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL underwent targeted

Reprogramming-driven Proteomic Shifts Mirror Bladder Cancer Progression and Reveal Biomarker Candidates Across Disease Grades.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The acquisition of stem-like properties and increased cellular plasticity is thought to drive tumor progression and therapeutic resistance, but grade-specific molecular trajectories across the epigenetic landscape in bladder cancer remain poorly defined. This study examined the dynamic rewiring of signaling networks and proteomic landscapes during reprogramming of low-grade (HTB-2) and high-grade (HTB-5) bladder cancer cells, and during their subsequent differentiation into embryoid bodies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six experimental models were analyzed, including the parental HT

Electroactive fibrous scaffolds for tendon repair: From bioelectric microenvironment engineering to motion-driven and remotely activated stimulation.

Tendon injuries rank among the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders. Their clinical treatment remains challenging due to the inherently poor self-healing capacity and highly ordered hierarchical architecture of native tendon tissues. In recent years, electroactive fiber-based biomaterials have attracted growing attention in the field of tendon regeneration, attributed to their unique capability to mimic the fibrous microstructure of natural tissues while providing therapeutic electrical stimulation throughout tissue repair. In this review, recent advances in electroactive fibrous scaffolds

Proximity Labeling in Caenorhabditis elegans to Detect Neuronal Proteins During Memory Formation.

Memory is a fundamental process, regulated by protein-protein interactions within neuronal proteome networks. Learning-dependent changes in specific brain regions important for memory have been detected by mass spectrometry, by comparing proteins from animals trained to learn with mock-trained controls. Detection through this method relies on relative protein abundance; brain dissection is readily available for macroscopic animals to spatially control protein identification by mass spectrometry. In the nematode C. elegans, however, such spatial control is limited due to its microscopic size, h

The complex mechanistic network of periprosthetic osteolysis: Integration from inflammatory response and tissue stress to signaling pathways.

Periprosthetic osteolysis (PPO) is the main pathophysiological mechanism responsible for aseptic loosening of a prosthesis following a total joint arthroplasty, adversely affecting long-term prosthetic fixation and clinical outcomes. The pathogenesis is primarily rooted in a cascade of biological responses induced by wear particles produced at the prosthesis-bone interface. These particles are identified by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on the surface of macrophages, which trigger the activation of signal transduction pathways, including the TLR/NF-κB pathway and the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Jejunal and pancreatic transcriptomic adaptations underpin enhanced performance in broilers fed sugarcane bagasse-supplemented diets.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the transcriptomic changes in the jejunum and pancreas of broiler chickens fed a diet supplemented with sugarcane bagasse (SB) to elucidate the physiological response of broilers to insoluble dietary fiber. RESULTS: A total of 168 0-day-old Ross 308 male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to two dietary treatments: a control diet or a diet supplemented with 2% SB, each consisting of six replicate pens (14 broilers/pen). Broilers were fed starter (d 0-10) and grower (d 11-24) diets, with SB added over the top to dilute the feed. Performance parameters we

Proton Beam Therapy in Prostate Cancer: Clinical Evidence, Controversies and Future Directions.

Proton beam therapy (PBT) offers a unique dosimetric advantage over photon-based external beam radiotherapy by concentrating dose at a certain depth (the Bragg peak) and markedly reducing the exit dose to surrounding normal tissues. This narrative review summarises and evaluates the clinical, dosimetric and radiobiological evidence for PBT in localised and locally advanced prostate cancer (PCa), focusing on treatment-related toxicity, oncological outcomes and emerging research directions. Comparative dosimetric studies consistently demonstrate reductions in low-intermediate dose exposure to th

Digitally supported, patient-initiated care: Maintaining control of inflammatory bowel diseases while achieving high patient satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and constrained clinical resources necessitate a shift from fixed-interval outpatient visits towards patient-initiated, needs-based follow-up. Real-world evidence on whether such transitions maintain disease control and achieve patient acceptance remains limited. In 2024, Aalborg University Hospital (Denmark) transitioned all patients with IBD not receiving biological therapy to a digitally supported, patient-initiated monitoring model. We aimed to evaluate the quality of care and patient satisfaction after the transitio
