The majority of CA-MRSA infections present as skin and soft tissue infections such as abscesses or cellulitis. However, CA-MRSA can cause invasive infections such as joint infections, necrotizing pneumonia or septicemia. Here we describe five cases with CA-MRSA bacteremia complicated with osteoarticular infection, necrotizing pneumonia, and infective endocarditis. We report these case series to outline the spectrum of invasive CA-MRSA diseases and to demonstrate clinical outcome. Early proper intervention with regular revisiting the empirical treatment based on local susceptibility data is cru

Objective The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of MS in 14-18-year-old girls. Methods This analytical case-control study was conducted on 3200 high school students with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS was confirmed by an endocrinologist after detection of clinical hyperandrogenism (acne, hirsutism and alopecia) and oligomenorrhea, rejection of hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia and performance of abdominal sonography. In the second stage, the prevalence

Trichotillomania is characterized by recurring hair pulling behavior and repeated attempts to decrease or stop the behavior. This behavior can cause a trichobezoar, which is a mass of hair found in the stomach. Patients with diagnosed celiac disease may have an urge to swallow their hair due to iron or folat deficiency, which is called pica. We report a case of an 11-year old girl with celiac disease who has had trichotillomania for a duration of 2 years, and required an operation due to residual gastric hair mass. In this case trichotillomania was more likely caused by behavioral disorders se

BACKGROUND: Attempting suicide by hanging has become one of the most preferred means among adolescents. Individuals who survive a suicide attempt by hanging have a range of deficits, including neuropsychological, neuropsychiatric, pulmonary and even speech and language deficits. Literature regarding speech and language deficits in cases of near hanging is especially limited.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to demonstrate the sequelae of neurogenic speech deficits following a suicide attempt by hanging, the treatment strategies, and prognostic issues in one such case.

Foreign bodies in the urethra and bladder are mostly due to self-insertion, iatrogenic insertion, migration from surrounding organs or through penetrating injuries. Self-insertion of a foreign body through the urethra is mostly related to sexual gratification, psychiatric conditions or to get relief from the intractable voiding symptoms. We present a case of a 17-year-old male who self-introduced an extremely long 120 cm electrical wire into his bladder for sexual gratification. The wire was removed by supra-pubic cystotomy to avoid urethral injuries.

Obesity is generally considered an adult disease, although there has been a constant increase in the prevalence of overweight and obese children in the last few decades. Childhood obesity is not limited to developed countries, with increasing numbers being reported from developing countries as well as from Saudi Arabia. Young populations with obesity suffer from similar comorbidities as obese adults, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, polycystic ovarian syndrome, pseudotumor cerebri, and fatty liver disease. Recent advances in weight loss surgery have gi

Numerous studies have highlighted that bicycle helmets reduce the risk of head injury; the purpose of this study was to determine the helmet-wearing rate of adolescent boys and the reasons for those who do not wear helmets. A questionnaire was developed and completed by 257 students. A higher percentage of older students reported a long bike commute to school (over 20 min). The frequency of helmet use and awareness of helmet legislation was lower amongst the older students. Common reasons for not using a helmet across all ages included its uncomfortable nature, the confidence of the rider's cy

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is considered to be a significant impairment in childhood and adolescence. According to cognitive theories, parents' external criticism and emotional self-regulation are among the variables that can directly or indirectly affect obsessive beliefs.
OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of emotional self-regulation in the relationship between parents' external criticism and obsessive beliefs in adolescents.
METHODS: In this study, 547 high school students aged between 15 and 18 years were selected using multi-stage clus

INTRODUCTION: The majority of existing research regarding cochlear-implanted patients focuses on acoustic perception and language skills in children and adolescents, or on the postoperative quality of life in adults.
PURPOSE: We hypothesized that a patient's psychological reaction to a cochlear implant (CI) may be influenced by the temperament of the implanted subject. This case study aims to assess whether temperament plays a role in the adaptation to CIs and if certain temperamental and character traits may be risk or protective factors for surgery and rehabilitation outcomes.
