What is older adults' understanding of Alzheimer's disease research registries? Findings from 20 focus group studies.

INTRODUCTION: Research registries address the challenges associated with enrollment of individuals in research studies by matching members to current studies and trials in need of participants. However, recruitment into research registries can be challenging as many lack awareness regarding research registries and need to be educated on their existence, purpose, and significance. METHODS: The present study uses data from 20 online focus groups conducted in English with Black (n = 89), White (n = 83), and Hispanic (n = 44) older adults to investigate their understanding of research registries.

The role of the body in the experience of installation art: a case study of visitors' bodily, emotional, and transformative experiences in Tomás Saraceno's "in orbit".

Installation art, with its immersive and participatory character, has been argued to require the use and awareness of the body, which potentially constitute key parts of the artwork's experience and appreciation. Heightened body awareness is even argued to be a key to particularly profound emotional or even transformative states, which have been frequently ascribed to this genre. However, the body in the experience of installation art has rarely been empirically considered. To address this gap, we investigated the body's role in the experience of Tomás Saraceno's in orbit installation. Based o

Examining the role of life purpose in high school students' self-esteem through structural equation modelling.

The aim of this study was to examine the extent to which high school students' sense of purpose explained variance their self-esteem. Life purpose is a multidimensional construct that encompasses long-term goals, commitments, and intentions to fulfill aspirations that are meaningful to self and have consequences for the world beyond-the-self. For this study, we explored the role of three distinct dimensions of awareness of purpose, awakening to purpose, and altruistic purpose in predicting students' self-esteem. High school students' (N = 234) between 14 and 18 years, completed surveys on self

The neurocognitive basis of morphological processing in typical and impaired readers.

Morphological awareness, or sensitivity to units of meaning, is an essential component of reading comprehension development. Current neurobiological models of reading and dyslexia have largely been built upon phonological processing models, yet reading for meaning is as essential as reading for sound. To fill this gap, the present study explores the relation between children's neural organization for morphological awareness and successful reading comprehension in typically developing and impaired readers. English-speaking children ages 6-11 (N = 97; mean age = 8.6 years, 25% reading impaired)

The visual magnocellular deficit in Chinese-speaking children with developmental dyslexia.

Many alphabetic studies have evidenced that individuals with developmental dyslexia (DD) have deficits in visual magnocellular (M) pathway. However, there are few studies to investigate the M function of Chinese DD. Chinese is a logographic language, and Chinese characters are complicated in structure. Visual skills and orthographic processing abilities are particularly important for efficient reading in Chinese as compared to alphabetic languages. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the visual M function of Chinese DD and whether the M function was associated with orthographic skills. I

Multimodal Assessment of Consciousness with Brain-Computer Interfaces and Artificial Intelligence: From Acquired Brain Injury to Neurodegenerative Disease.

The assessment of consciousness has been shaped largely by research on acquired disorders of consciousness after acute or chronic brain injury, but similar problems of unreliable behavioral expression increasingly arise in neurodegenerative disease. This translational overlap is especially relevant when preserved cognition, awareness, or intentionality cannot be reliably expressed because of severe motor impairment, fluctuating arousal, cognitive decline, aphasia, apraxia, or impaired cooperation. In neurodegenerative disease, degeneration of arousal systems, large-scale brain networks, cognit
